Your Personal Goals Thread
« on: September 29, 2012, 05:41:09 pm »
This thread will hopefully serve 2 purposes:

1.) To catalogue your plans and progression towards whatever athletic goal you have set yourself. It might be to move up from the 3rd XI to the 2nd XI; get your handicap down from 18 to 14; Get from 100kg to 90kg; go to the gym consistently.

2.) To achieve the title of the sub-forum - to inspire other RAWKites. Document your achievements in here and let others see what you have done, and whether you have failed or won, you have tried - and God, we love a trier.

I will start off, and see if we get anywhere:

a) To start playing badminton at a decent level again, and be playing for a competition club within 6 months.

b) To cycle at least 100km per week consistently on my mountain bike when I am at home and can do so.

c) To continue my weight loss and get down to 80kgs (86kgs on 29/09/2012)

d) When I'm away and staying in hotels with a gym, to do at least 2 sessions a day (1 morning, 1 evening) of at least 15 minutes high-tempo exercise.

I will officially update this in 2 weeks time and see how I've got on. If anyone wants to share their journey and get some encouragement along the way, this is the thread for it.

Well I have goals:

1. Get back into running on a regular basis.  I've been plagued with achilles problems for a year or so.
2. Start competing in 10ks
3. Maintain the golf practice at driving range and putting green.  When confidence has been built up try a proper game of golf in the new year.

My goals and hopes.

1) get my weight down to 15 stone by mid June when I will hit 40 years old (21 1/2 stone jan 2012, 17 1/2 stone sept 2012)

2) run a 10k in 2013

3) try to set a good example to my kids by exercising and healthy eating so they don't have weight problems in the future.

4) bench press my own body weight and do 10 pull-ups, these 2 may seem silly to some people but for a heavy person these are impossible so it would mean a lot to be able to do this.

Good luck to everybody  :)

Bench pressing your bodyweight is a good target. A normal press-up is about 3/4 of your body weight, and many people struggle to do that.

1) Get my weight to sub 11.5 stone by the new year (currently 13)
2) Join a football team and play regularly to the highest level I can
3) Rejoin my old running club and start competing in competitions

Just want to get to a healthy weight so I can do well in my activities really.  Gain some fitness and be in a decent shape to go on with my life.

Cut body fat down to the 12-13% range and ensure it goes no higher than 15%.
Squat 2 x bw by end of 2013, bench 1.5x bw and deadlift 2.5 x bw by end of 2013. Clean and Jerk over 100kg and strict press at least my own weight sometime during 2013.

My goals for the next few months.

Loose the spare tyre I have acquired since giving up smoking in January.

Carry on cycling, going further and faster with the aim of doing an international ride.

Find enjoyable exercises that tone my upper body. Below the waist I look like Chris Hoy, above it Matt Lucas.

I'm just about to sign up to one of those Park Run events. Only 5k but will make a change from plodding round on my own by having a bit of a race environment. Bit worried though - my brother in law did it in 21 minutes last week and I won't get anywhere near a time like that. Can't make myself a laughing stock when results are published online!

Great thread.

My aims are to:

a) keeping up playing as much football as i can.
b) get back into running.
c) finally give up smoking...which more than hinders the above two goals.

Want to be a much fitter peron, and targetting next summer to see a real difference. Will update as regular as possible.

My last fitness test i did last month i got 9.10 on the bleep test, 20 press ups and 35 sit ups (in a minute for each) which is the basic pass standard for my age group, for my next one March i want to get 10.11, 40 press ups and 41 sit ups, which puts me in the next bracket up and means yearly tests instead of 6 monthly ones.

Play footy monday mornings and have a circuits session on tuesday morning too plus going gym and swimming after work too so hopefully i can at least get close to the target.

Have had only a few goals for this past year that I'm well on my way to reaching...

1)  Get down to 179 lbs. (12 stone 11).  Right on 4 pounds to go as of this morning. :thumbup
2)  Ride my 5 mile commute in under 21 minutes on my mountain bike.  Can't seem to break 22m50s for some reason.  Some nasty climbs though.  :-\
3)  Quit smoking.  After cutting back and cutting back, finally had my last one yesterday.
4)  First race in an XC event.  Yeah... that's not happening this year.

I've joined a football team so far.  One ten minute spell made me realize how unfit I am, so I've been doing some running.  Lost a few pounds so far too so I'm on the right track, just got to keep going and it'll all come.

Well done mate, great stuff.

I completed my first goal (to run 10k) last Saturday, which I am delighted with, as I thought i'd need another month of training. I've entered a half marathon for march which was my other goal. To keep me busy in the mean time I've made plans to try and run 11-ish miles of the Wirral Way over xmas with my sister.

Keep up the good work everyone!

1) to lose 1/2 stone, currently 14.
2) to run every 3rd day/night until my holiday in May.
3) to run 4 miles in 30mins!! Might not be much to you seasoned runners out there but at the moment it seems unachievable to me?
4) to cycle at least 10 miles per week.
5) Oh & to get my handicap down from 19 to 16 or 17
Ive just turned 45 & am a couch potato, so it will be some achievement for me if I manage to complete that lot!!
I will check back every now & then if I remember??     :wave

So here's my goals for the year 2013:

1. Get running - 5k at 25 mins before the year is over.
2. Get to a healthy fat-percentage. Or at least lose enough to see my abs.

Pretty much it for now. Might sign up for a ski race when the winter comes about towards the new year.

Well done mate, great when you work hard at something and really pull it off.

My aim over summer is to get fitter for my final year in the badminton team at university. We won the british university cup last year which was amazing, but in some games I can feel myself getting tired, whereas when I was younger I would be able to wear down opponents during a match. No real fitness training at our club so I'm going to do my own preseason training incorporating a lot more high intensity cardio.

Cheers matey. It sounds like you're pretty fit anyways (compared to me anyway!) just need to hone it a bit more?
Come back on here & let us all know how you feel you've done?!
