Hehehe, awesome article. I have similarly fantastic memories of it. The little short story collection that came with it was excellent too. Loved that game, still sad that there isn't a true successor to it - you, your ship and the galaxy! Though If I could have it in dream form I wouldn't mind adding the fleet building from X3 and X-Terran Conflict.

Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, PC – Free

I’ve not been able to test this myself, since I already own this on Origin, but if you apply coupon “PARADISE” when buying this through the Origin client (not the website), it should come out free.

Cheers to the several people that sent this in.

It says something when out of the 20 or so people on my Steam friend's list online at any time, half of them are on Skyrim :P

skyrim is by far the most popular game at the moment, so far it's peaked at over 287,000 playing at the same time today compared to just under 87,000 on mw3

I'm not playing it! I'm going to finish up the games I have now, get married, finish some projects for work, and then play Skyrim when I return from holiday in Mexico. Maybe the price will come down about then too.

Someone must have hacked their servers and added some zeroes. : )  The future missus was telling me how sad she was going to be once Christmas, the wedding, and honeymoon were over. The genius I am, I didn't say anything and she asks, "what about you, won't you be sad?"  Nope. I'll finally be playing Skyrim, if PC gaming hasn't died by boxing day.

Is Minecraft made to turn my computer into a smoldering inferno? I played SW:TOR beta for literally hours upon hours straight during the weekend and barely went above 50c. Today, twenty minutes of Minecraft and I'm shooting upwards 61c, and showed no sign of stopping. What gives?

although I don't play minecraft so can't say for sure, it sounds like it's using the processor to render rather than the gpu.. is there any option to choose between hardware or software acceleration?

Surprisingly good. I had more fun playing 2 days of beta than I've had with 4 years of SWG and 4 of WoW combined.

Hmm. I'm adicted to Skyrim, over 30 hours played and I've only been to Whiterun and Riften and inbetween. Anyway, Got my invite to download the beta client for SWTOR - it's a big download so be warned, best leave it as an overnight DL.

Looks like it's staggered invites some will get in Fri, Sat and Sun morning - not really fussed so long as I get a chance to try it for an hour to see if it grabs me.

I got saturday for my test run on SW:ToR. I'm gonna buy and play this, but I fear it's a single player game connected to a router.. Hope I'm wrong.

In the meantime, I'll raid Steam.

So, any thoughts on SWTOR?

Definitely a game on my radar, the first one was phenomenal and, while I didn't complete it, what I played of the 2nd one was really cool too - especially being able to take on a Padawan. Great idea.

Anyway, today's daily Steam offer is Bastion.

If you haven't played it, it's an absolute gem of a game. A bit of an action JRPG in terms of how it plays, but that really doesn't do it justice. The narration in the game is uniquely brilliant, it really feels like you are part of a story being told as you 'live' it, and a very interesting mix of styles in that the story's got a sort of westerny feel to it. Very unique.

Also the music is just fantastic. Worth downloading and listening to on it's own right, and again the way the music reacts to your actions is pretty much pitch perfect. It's almost sinful not to give this one a go at under £4, even if it isn't your usual type of game it's almost a moral obligation to support something like this.

Seriously. Get on it.

There's a demo anyway if you want to try it first.

Anybody here played X3 Terran Conflict? I've started with the "Terran" option and I'm completely clueless, 2-3 hours into it and struggling to continue playing it! It's a shame as I've heard good things about it and it seemed right up my street. It's obvious there's a lot of depth to it, that was kinda what attracted me to it in the first place.

I'd really like to like this game so if anybody could give me any pointers as to the point of it (Ha ha!) or any tips when starting out that would be great. I've just left the solar system for the first time after orders form some Terran Commander at a space dock in the Asteroid belt if that helps?

Perhaps I've just got post Skyrim depression and anything I play will seem pointless and soul-less!

Played it for a while about a year ago. I never really got into it... ;)

Anyone playing Everquest 2? Is it worth playing, because I noticed that it's free on Steam and I'm tempted to give it a try. I'm not that into MMORPGs. I've played a bit of WoW and LOTRO, but mainly by myself without doing all the  raids and stuff there is. I was doing quests and a little bit of PVP, but that's it...

Give it a swerve, it's one of the most restrictive free2plays I've ever seen.

4 races and 8 classes
5 gold per level (can't buy shit or train)
2 bag slots (dumb)
Can't send mail
No shared bank
20 quests in journal
Can't use broker (aka. can't use Auction house)

~The Egosoft forums are definitely your friend. It's a game with a pretty fiendish learning curve but it can be incredibly rewarding. What other game lets you deploy a fleet of capital ships with massed fighter squads all under your command? That's without even mentioning the economic side of it...
