Great post. I am not a scouser even though all my mates call me one. Then again they do say I am a very mixed up scouser. I was born in a place called Banff in Scotland, and like most kids I followed the same team my Dad followed, Celtic. Then I moved to London at the age of 5, but it wasn't till I moved to Watford that I took an interest in football. My new best mate was a Liverpool fan. But the real turning point came a few weeks after, my hero, Dalglish, moved to Liverpool. He had just completed a move from Celtic and there my love affair began, I was 7years old.
My 1st game was at the bridge v Chelsea in the 78/79 season, (we were robbed a win by a dodgy off-side). I got to a couple of games up till early 90's, but since then I have tried to get to as many games as possible. I now go to quite a few home games, all the cup games and as many away european away game that my bank balance allows, (and my wife allows me to go to). I do regard myself as a supporter, (I support the club finacially), I sing and shout at games, (but never complete the line ' oh I am a liverpudlian...' in the 'Scouser Tommy' song, as I feel this would be wrong of me), and hate it when fans don't sing or even know or try to know songs. But at the end of the day I may not be a 'scouser' but I do respect the traditions of a loyal fan  and always will do, win, lose or draw.

great story clarkiej...

you came into this great mongrel family the same route as thousands of others and can proudly call yourself a red...

on another topic...

My mum lived in Banff and i went up there once she was staying at the club at the top of the hill overlooking the beach, and she took me to McDuff a couple of times...

It was a very beautiful but COLD place... It was August 1977.. how do I know...?

It was the day Elvis died, it was all over the radio & TV...

Elvis supports Liverpool... He works at Anfield selling burgers at half-time... :lickin ;D

Still live in Watfod.

You're right, Watford are terrible. Saw them home and away against the 'pool.
Even my Watford mates said it was like a training game for us at Vicarage Rd.

I can't believe they went down? ha ha

mate if you support Liverpool you're a Liverpudlian, you don't have to come from the city. You do to be a Scouser but not a Liverpudlian. Just the same as if you're an Evertonian you don't have to come from Everton...

...but you do have to come from Wales ;)

tend to stay away from this sort of topic but in my opinion a scouser is someone born/lives in Liverpool. everyone else, who supports LFC, is an adopted scouser meaning we have that scouse spirit in us. iIwould never pretend to be a true "scouser" but when someone makes an LFC or Scouse joke I get pissed. So what does that tell you? I don't know. I really have to say that there is something about Liverpool FC that draws you in like a smackhead to...well...smack. I started watching the beautiful game durring the 2002 World Cup. After that the first league game I saw Liverpool v. Chelsea(when CHelsea was still a normal team) with basically a blank slate about football in general other then the World Cup. I'll never forget it. Owen scored in the 89th minute to win 1-0 and "YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALLLOOOONNNEEE" came on and I had fuckin tears in my eyes. It was like a religious experience. I was like "God damn, this is for me. I was sent a message". From then on it has been me and a few other of my mates who like football on a quest to try to be the best educated on the game and for me, Liverpool FC and its supporters, that I/we possibly could.Since then, like many others, it has been the 6:30am wake up and the overpriced tv channels and the overpriced tickets to see LFC play here in the States a few years back.Illegal web streams to watch the lads. But there is something about the Scousers that really warms my heart and it is something that sets us apart from the Man Utd and Chelsea knobs that I encounter everyday who bang on about how much they love their club when you personally know that they haven't even made half the sacrifice that you have and in 5 years when the next club becomes big they will be in their corner saying the same crap. I guess what I am trying to say is that LFC is a joy and its supporters, you and I, are distinct and special and I believe a large part of that comes from the scouse inside us all. By the way, great post Zappa.

It was my intention to, as always, make a jokey remark about how the poster was a Wool, not for one second meaning it of course as I was taught my history about such things long ago.

Having read that, all I can say, is that you sir are what I aspire to be every single time I go to a game. You are the heart and soul of this Club and it is that which you have learned that you are hopefully now in some small way at least teaching others as I was taught myself.

We are Liverpool Football Club and we are different. The reason ? People like you.

Well, my grandads a born and bread scouser (not sure exactly where his roots are) and my dad lived on the houses that backed onto the main stand (can't remember the name) in Anfield. My mums from ormskirk and ive lived in Ormskirk all my life. My dad doesnt really speak with a scouse accent, but you can kinda tell (if that makes sense), you know, the sense of humour etc etc. I don't consider myself to be a scouser, but i am a liverpudlian. I work in Preston and i constantly get called a scouser, which to them, i am, but i know i'm not. I try to explain to them that i'm whats known as a 'wool' ha, but they dont seem to get it. I never try to 'act' scouse, but i just be myself, theres nothing more annoying than people you see that obviously are not, but pretend to be scouse.

I sing parts in songs that refer to 'us scousers' because part of my family is etc and i think i have a kind of scouse mentality, i love to have a laugh, at others expense or my own :-)

So on that note, no i'm not a scouser, some of my family are. I have quite a few scouse mates and i love the city and the culture etc..........RED THROUGH AND THROUGH.

same sorta thing here, my grandad was born and bred a scouser moved to here [not saying where its an embarrasment] with my nana when my mum was born,i followed my grandparents ans supported liverpool,  i'm always gettin called a scouser off all my mates but i also know i'm not aswell, i wouldn't support any other team though especially not the sh*t near me

my mum s family are all from liverpool but she exiled to shropshire in 1949. Still got family there and visit the city loads. She lived just 2 mins from Anfield. True scousers my family but sadly some are evertonians.

I think a true scouser is someone not just born and bred in liverpool but who has the city in their hearts, who love it, are proud of saying this is my city.
Liverpool football club being your team. passing that support down through generations of your family
Even though I was born in Shropshire my granny and mum have instilled scouse into my heart.
Feeling that swell in your heart when you catch your first sight of the mersey after a long journey. Feeling that feeling when you see our ground looming above the housetops.

And of course those fondly remembered domestic fights between me granny and grandad on a saturday evening (she was a fanatical red, he a fanatical blue)!

sitting on the KOP singing your heart out. living your team.
