Would be a massive loss to lose him but given how we got him and the deal his agents were able to sort for this to happen I can't say I am surprised at how this is playing out. Gut says he signs a new deal.

Is he at the Confederations cup with Germany? Just saw that he didn't even get on their bench for the latest game? I am pretty sure he makes their senior squad quite often, were they just resting their more senior players?

Nothing to be read in to that given Joachim Low also rested Neuer,  Ozil,  Hummels and Muller.

Neuer, Özil, Hummels and Müller aren't even in the squad for Confed Cup. Löw took only youth players and Can can be considered one of the more experienced players by the side of Draxler, ter Stegen, Hector and Mustafi. He should get a go in the next game me thinks.

He's picked up a knee injury in training today and is a doubt for tomorrow's game. Low doesn't think it's too serious though.

Only watched a compilation of his touches, but looked like he had a really good game. Drove forward well, created a few chances, broke up play. Looked in good shape there.

This Emre Can looks a bit useful. Mind you, central midfield for Germany, he's bound to be a bit tasty I suppose.

His form half way through the season was really poor and he had to be dropped, but he has shown a lot in coming back and finding his current run. Really controlling play now, and looking like what he originally promise.

You do know that the reason for his poor form was an injury that he was playing through right?

Says a lot about Grujic (was injured aswell for a time) or Klopps centre midfielder options with Hendo out if playing an injured Emre Can is the desirable option ahead of anyone else. We still need depth so we're not reliant on Hendo or Can as they are quite injury prone.

It's almost as though movement, space and confidence are incredibly important dynamics in terms of moving the ball quickly ...

See: everyone blaming the full-backs for our loss of form when in reality they hadn't become bad footballers overnight and it was the overall team dynamic which was failing.

Hoping we can get his contract sorted shortly after he arrives back at the club for pre-season. Doubt there will be any progress before then though.

What is up with his contract? I know he has been playing for Germany but I can't imagine he's personally sitting in on the contract talks so you would hope for some signs of progress.

Now that the VVD fuck-up has come to a close for all but the most hopeful/deluded and that Keita looks semi-likely, this has to be the single biggest signing priority remaining after that.

Regardless of who you favour now, Can has the most potential of our young(ish) CMs and is definitely captain material. Needs sorting pronto.

Perhaps Can wants to wait and see if Keira comes or not before committing himself. It would increase his competition in midfield.
