Ive done 8 or 9 years doing vendange in the Borgoune , Beajalais , Aude and by Cadialac by Bordeuax. I use to sing devotional songs ( sufi , native american , christian , ) most of the time whilst picking and sing or chant mantras which surely vibrated into the grape. Those wines are gonna be far out .    ;D

Anyone tried Naked Wines?

I did via a voucher, was a bit underwhelmed with it and got very pissed off with their cheesy marketing.

Ended up with a few £ in the account, someone called me to ask what I liked and could they put a case together based on that, so I agreed. Think I ended up with 15 bottles including a couple of freebies. There was a couple we didn't like which they refund as part of their process. But I have to say, the rest were excellent, just a bit different from the usual supermarket stuff you can get drawn into.
Bought some more before Christmas and again, it was all good. So despite not wanting to like them, I'm quite impressed.

I've used them for years mainly for presents - I put a few quid in every month and at Christmas I can get a couple of gift boxes for relatives. They usually chuck freebies in like gin or port in the gift boxes.

Chateau Les Marcottes from just by the Garonne River by Bordeaux. It's very sweet and similar to Sauterenes.

Those sweet Bordeaux whites are lovely, even better if you avoid Sauternes prices. Great with a bit of Roquefort.

I love them .

Was grape picking by Langone in 2013 to 2016. In my first harvest there my Chech friend says go and knock on the famy house and asked for some wine. One of the sons past me a big fuck off plastic container full of the sweet stuff. Gallons of it

My girlfriend just asked: what will be the effect of coronavirus on wines and the industry? Both in terms of what it'll do to the flavour and what could happen to the vineyards.

I reckon in France they'll still be doing their yearly work. The harvest is usually from August til October depending on the grape and what kind of summer they've had. In the heatwave in 2015 I picked in mid August. The year before the summer was shit and started picking in early October at the same chateau. Hopefully this years harvest won't be effected.

I spoke to Anne Marie earlier ( Beajaulais ) and she says the chateaus are still chugging along as usual. The harvest is usually August / September so let's hope all is custy by then.

Just edgy branding from what I can tell, although they aren't the only ones trying this in an attempt to bring in a younger customer.

I've been told biggest issue is the lack of bottle production which means most 'storage' of wine os full...problem isnt a lack of harvest this year but where to put it.

19 Crimes is an affordable and very tasty red, Australian, usually £9 in Tesco, often reduced to £7.

It's been around for a while, very tasty.

I was given a bottle last year. It was your typical inexpensive wine. Not amazing, not horrible. I'd drink it again.

Great gimmick. Hats off to whoever came up with that marketing idea.

Did you pay full price?

I use Waitrose cellar a lot but only buy the offers as long as i know they are a proper offer. When i can get good Rioja for 15-22 quid that is normally 20-30 quid then i buy.

I did this time, but, like you, I usually go for the offers too, £15 for something that is usually £20 etc.

Which Waitrose Riojas do you recommend?

If you're after decent stuff when on offer

Vina Bosconia Reserva
Vina Tondonia Reserva (one of my favourite wines)
CVNE Imperial Reserva
Contino Reserva
Baron de Ley Gran Reserva
Muga Seleccion Especial
Beronia Reserva

Price from 16-29 at normal pricing, if it's 25% off then the Tondonia down from 29 to 22 is a decent bargain.

They usually have Vina Arana as s well for about 20.

And I bet you that was top notch. I've harvested the Grand Cru by Beaune in France. I also helped build a roof to just down the road from St Emilion and as you know the wine from there is also top notch.

So those of you who've seen my rant in the other thread this is not what I'm ranting about as this is proper wine drinking discussion.

The rant was about the people on these stupid house buying programmes saying "I can see us living here, sat outside with a nice glass of wine".

Why bring wine into it!!!

Nice, when did you do that?

Grand Cru by Beaune in 2011 and 2015 I think. The chateuas owner kept on getting off during the evening meal and coming back with stuff I've never tasted before . He was rubbing the dust off some of the bottles but not sure if they were from his own vineyards. I' ve never tasted anything like that stuff.

The St Emilion stuff was like Ive said was when I was helping building a roof. That was 2016/17.

How I miss it .

I jumped on the Whispering Angel bandwagon today. I thought maybe it was just a trend/fad but thought I’d get a bottle and try it - really impressed. Not as dry as I was expecting. Incredibly drinkable. I’m not a rosé drinker at all FWIW.

£22 a bottle here so not cheap but wouldn’t begrudge paying that for it and will definitely buy again.

Not sure of the top of my head.

I normally spend up to 200 quid at a time with some decent stuff and then some of the cheaper ones to get about 18 bottles.
Looks like the 25% off is on for the next 7 days. May treat myself and get some of those Riojas.
