It was pretty pathetic when he tried to say he wasn't a dump supporter and says he watches Bill's show every week and agrees with most of what Bill says.

Not exactly possible when Bill seems to spend most of his time mocking trump and piers spends most of his lickingTrumpsass sucking up to him...

I think somebody forgot to tell Moron that he wasn't on Question Time.  He seemed to think that people would agree with the most outrageous of opinions just by using a reasonable tone of voice.

That bit at the end where he claimed the worst spike in violent crime since 1971 on the back of a chart that showed a relatively modest increase in overall crime over a record low rate was baffling and embarrassing.  Classic Tory in fact.

I saw that bit and refused to watch the rest of the show as he's an annoying c*nt beyond belief

It's funny that he complains about Jeffries sounding unpleasant while defending Trump. No irony there at all.

you don't give people like Donald Drumpf a chance.  Give them an inch and they'll take a fucking mile.  This is just them testing the waters to see what they can get away with.  If there were not any protests, who knows what the hell they might have moved onto by now??

Jim Jefferies is spot on.  It didn't start with gas chambers.  It never does.  And it doesn't have to get that far under Trump to become an absolute fucking nightmare for anybody who isn't a white male heterosexual Christian.

And that's an observation made by a white male heterosexual Christian.

A bit more on the serious side but this is an excellent watch. IMO Bill's the best of the lot, even ahead of Jon Stewart.

I thoroughly disagree. He's so much more arrogant than any of the others, and has said some pretty inflammatory things about Islam in the past. If anything, he's become a bit of a relic of the 00s under GWB, when there was much more of a focus on the influence of religion in politics. I don't find him to be particularly funny. I'm pretty sure people like him are why so many Americans hate liberals.

I'm pretty sure people like him are why so many Americans hate liberals.

What i really like about him is that he's not afraid to go after his base. He goes after liberals for safe spaces, cracking down on free speech, trying to be being too politically correct in dealing with radical extremism, etc. He's even gotten lightly booed by his own audience for saying things liberals might not like... while i don't agree everything he says or the way he says it, i think he's the closest there is to someone in American politics who 'says it like it is', which the PC left really needs and he did it well before trump.

Some have taken issue with his criticism of radical islamic terrorism but he's right that there needs to be a conversation about it on the left, even if his argument is a bit blunt and he doesn't quite get that his view is still very much that of an outsider. You don't get that from most of the others. And given Trump's gotten elected promising safety from Muslims I'd say religion once again is a huge issue in American politics.

Great stuff. The only trouble is that i doubt Trump supporters watch John Oliver and their opinions wouldnt be altered if they did. It`s great fun for us, but people don`t like to be mocked even if deep down they know they are wrong.

Well I don't think I'd go quite that far, but Oliver's one of Jon Stewart's lot so he had a good teacher. :)

I would really like to see Oliver rip Moron a new one the way only Brits can do.

Well I don't think I'd go quite that far, but Oliver's one of Jon Stewart's lot so he had a good teacher. :)

whether you agree with him or not I'm not sure why anyone on the left would say something like that. He's been the loudest most consistent voice in the states calling for marijuana legalisation and taking on religion as a whole, which in the US in the 80s and 90s was no mean feat and along with Jon Stewart paved the way for comedic news shows. I can understand the hate he gets from conservatives, not sure why he gets it from some on the left.

(speaking of Maher and Stewart, this is beautiful)
http://www.cc.com/video-clips/kkwd23/the-daily-show-with-jon-stewart-exclusive---bill-maher-extended-interview

regarding Oliver and Maher, they are also very different shows and they excel at different things. last week tonight is more informational in that he picks a main story and with the help of his research team goes deeper, but it also plays directly to people already on the left. Maher's humour is crass and i think Bee and Noah are the funniest of the lot, but it's a lot easier to mock someone's viewpoint when they're not there. Actually engaging the American right, given how ridiculous some of their positions are is no easy task and Maher does that week in week out. And if there's one thing liberals should take away from the last election it's that you do actually have to ENGAGE the other side. mock them all you want but there's more value when you do it when they're there to defend themselves. Trevor Noah went up a lot more in my estimation after he had Tomi Lahren on his show.

Hmm.. he may be to the extent that he's in Bannon's camp, rather than Priebus's, and Bannon may prefer him. But I think in terms of policy influence, he's already way ahead of Spicer. If anything, Spicer is probably the bottom of the administration food chain.

Unlike Spicer, Miller clearly relishes the prospect of standing in front of the media and uttering pure and utter bullshit as if it's 100% true; not just with conviction but with fanatical fervour, and backed up with outright threats.  He'll just shout down and ignore the challenges to what his boss holds to be true.  As KillieRed says, he'll do it with unwavering Hitler Youth energy and loyalty.  He's like a mini Trump.

Too many people are being taken on board by this administration who have no skill other than kissing Trump's ass and making him feel validated so they can get a slice of the pie and feel important and feared.

The thing about Spicer is that while still coming across like a massive c*nt he has something clumsy about him that makes him kind of "likeable" or at least bearable. It's when he goes to the podium and tries to read his statement and gets about a million words wrong or starts stuttering, because he gets stuff mixed up. The same happens when he's trying to answer questions. You can clearly see that at times he just has no clue what he's talking about. He still acts as a twat though, but you kind of don't buy his "tough guy"-stick. With that Miller guy it's completely different. He really is like a Hitler Youth guy...

I'm just going to pretend Colbert is dicking with me over the proposed new Austrian Ambassador.   :o

Seth Meyer's take on the Flynn resignation.  I imagine Trump was told but that it jut flew in one orange ear and out the other.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say Spicer's approach comes from the fact he knows it's bullshit and doesn't believe it himself.  Ever seen those people who lie, then have to tell more lies to cover up their previous lies, then can't quite remember how they told the initial lie?  That's Spicer.  Maybe his anger is borne from frustration.

A guy like Miller, well he doesn't have to believe anything.  I don't know if he's quite at the point of "Trump said it therefore it is true" in his heart, but he's clearly much better than Spicer at dancing around and covering his lies.

Somebody really needs to challenge this along the lines of, "Look, the President has been claiming voter fraud for months and you claim to have evidence.  But so far you have flat refused to release that evidence to anybody.  Unsubstantiated allegations of such a grave matter are, at best, misleading; at worst, they're outright lies.  Why are you lying to us?  Why is the President lying to us??  The American people aren't idiots.  You're lying, Mister Miller.  You have no evidence.  There is no voter fraud.  Stop.  Lying."

The clumsiness and lack of cerebral horsepower evident in Spicer makes him no less a hitler youth wannabe to my mind.  He's still spouting vicious democracy-bending lies every single day.  Being a bit of a simpleton wouldn't have been an impediment to joining the nazi party.....if anything, those types flourish under fascist regimes

Agree. Put them on the spot. Before it goes too far. Miller will probably explode if he's put under pressure. Sad for him, but he's an amateur. You could put any PL player out there and they'd do a better job answering questions from the press. And Miller is supposed to be a spokesperson for the President of the USA.

Read up on him. He won't crack because he is a dead-eyed far-right c*nt. He's spent his whole life being hated and bit giving a shit. He complained about Spanish language announcements at high school, didn't like sharing classes with black people or LGBT. He's worked for Michelle Bachman and Sessions in the past before being picked up by Bannon and Breitbart.

Horrible little shit who would have fitted perfectly in the Third Reich. That's not Godwinism.
