Greatest World Cup Moment?
« on: November 24, 2009, 11:54:52 am »
Just stumbled across an interesting website with clips of some of the greatest world cup moments on, and it allows you to vote for your favourite moment.

It's a bit early to start talking about the World Cup, but some of the videos are worth a watch.

For me as an England fan born in the 90's - Has to be Owen's goal vs Argentina. The world got to see for the first time what this guy could do and the goal was just simply brilliant the way he took on 4 players and the finish was immaculate. but that's all in the past...

Stabbed your boss in the back, the man who made you fucking European Champions, and got in the man you wanted as manager. Just because Rafa wouldn't fucking cuddle you enough and fucking wank you off while telling you how fucking great you are.

...... Cambiassio's Argentina Goal v Slovakia (i think).

Think it was Serbia and Montenegro?

For me its the Brazil v Italy final of 1970 and in particular the fourth goal.
He's a manipulative bastard. Another deliberate attempt to put pressure on people in the game, which he thinks he'll get away with because of his "standing" in the game and his fucking knighthood.

Maradona's second against us...The best goal I've ever seen from the best player I've ever seen.

Owens goal v Argentina was frighteningly good...Makes the hairs stand up on my neck even now.

Gazza in 1990. Possibly the best player in the world at the time along with Matthaus.

Ronaldos goal vs England in the 2002 world cup. Think it was against England anyway. Ball was chipped over to him past all the defenders, running at the keeper, one on one, great goal. Don't know why i remember it but even then my memorys' a bit hazy.

i take it tardellis goal was to win the 82 world cup?  3-1 v germany?
magic stuff, no itallian in me at all but i taped the radio comentary as well as watching it an  loved it, this after being upset after  theyd knocked out brazil earlier on in the 3-2 game.
have to say loved the passion of argentina in 78 although pretty sure  they paid someone  in the 6-0 v peru.
so many great memories from  my earlier world cups  the dutch were always great to watch  in  78  an a few others.
france in 82 were magical also.
as i  started to watch  liverpool  on a full time basis froma round mid  80s it never  seemed the same international footy.
btw i admiot to supporting engerland  for probs the last  time in 82  keegan  an brooking missing late chances  v  spain ironically.
Im drunk  but i havent had  a drink!  bob paisley after rome 77                The times i had here wernt all great, we only  finished 2nd one  season....the great  bob paisley

when shanks was asked  how he relaxed,  he said  he looks at the league table and checks where everton are...

Obviously but there's also Carlos Alberto's goal in the 70 final and Maradona's 2nd goal against England in 86. All of these moments are on an equel playing field for me.

What I love about this, and several other of Kenny's press conferences, is that he manages to say something to the effect of  'Shut the fuck up, you fucking helmets and don't fuck with me or my football club or I'll make you eat your own balls', without actually using th

In my opinion,Maradona's second goal against England is the greatest goal that was ever scored and cant see it being bettered really.Pity in a way that "Hand of God" springs to mind whenever that game is mentioned, pity people dont remember the other goal more.

1986 Final: Argentina 3 - 2 West Germany. Unbelievable game. Myself and my brother used to watch it over and over on video for years afterwards. Jose Luis Brown finished the game with a dislocated shoulder or collarbone, madness. The goals were also fairly special. And the Maracana had this mental looking shadow on the pitch near the halfway line.

Ireland getting to the QF in 90 was fairly special aswell. Not the biggest fan of international football but there's something unbelievably magical about the World Cup.

I knew it was Mexico, I just mixed up the stadiums. Maracana is in Brazil then, right? Or is it Argentina? Not too good on South America.
