Nice one Col - keep it up - still can't do 5K in under 26 mines yet :(

Get on a treadmill, stick it on 8.5mph, and keep up! ;)

I couldn't do it at my own natural pace, I'm way too slow for that... but I figure the more I push myself on the treadmill, the faster I'll be able to go on the road :)

good time.

I did the Indy mini-marathon this past weekend.  Half marathon that does one lap of the Indy 500 track.  You can't realize how big the track is until you're on it.  2.5miles+ in an oval.  You run on the straight aways and then down to the apron for the corners because they're too steep to run comfortably.

I'm not a race fan, but I appreciate the history of the place.

Great fun, but it was a huge race.  35,000 people running.

Hopefully be able to keep it going this time. Aiming for some good races this season :)

Anyone doing the Edinburgh marathon later this month? It'll be my first marathon, and while i am looking forward to it, i'm not expecting to do to well as i've done next to nothing as far as training is concerned (Although fitness levels aren't too bad as i have been playing football regularly, albeit sunday league level). Anyone done it before? If so, how was it?

Took part in the Belfast Marathon Relay on Monday.  I was given the longest leg which is 7.1 miles most of which is up hill.  I did it in an hour and 12 minutes.  I know it's not going to break any records but I was pleased with the fact that I didn't want to boke at the end and could still walk.

Doing my first 10k in nearly a year tomorrow. Used to do sub-45 minute times comfortably but now would be delighted with anything under 55-minutes. Frustrated with myself for letting myself go a bit and it is slightly depressing struggling on runs that would have been a breeze but I suppose it gives me a target.

Marathon PB is 3:32:37, and would love to one day qualify for Boston (3:10:59 or better required). Will be a long road but again it is something to aim for.

We'll see how we go tomorrow, another medal is always a boost :)

Decided I'm going to incorporate a 5k run into every workout I do for the next couple of months, as a warm-up. Just done it today and feel fine, could easily do it 3 or 4 times per week without pushing myself too far, especially at an easy pace. Marathons? Pah, I'll just drive ta! ;)

Did my 10k in 54:36, which was under my target. Started a bit too quickly for the heat (first 2k  in 10:08 so eased off). Felt quite comfortable by the end and had no post-race aches so it was a boost and a sign that I now need to push harder. Would like to get back under 50-minutes by the end of summer, if not before.

5k is a great distance, and you've only got to do eight of them to (almost) run a marathon ;)

Haha. Well, when you put it like that, sign me up! ;)

I like 5k, it doesn't really touch the sides stamina-wise, and it's short enough to be able to vary my pace from day to day and push it when I'm in the mood, but it feels like a good-old workout by the end of it and feels like it's doing the job. Suits me.

It's a great distance for doing intervals too. When training for a marathon a couple of my midweek runs are 5-6k - those are the runs that really help to lay the foundations for the longer hikes. And, like you say, 5k can be nice and steady or you can really push for a time.

Ive just found out that 5k is not a good distance when you are racing it on a track!! My marathon legs where not used to that intensity doing at the Wigan track but I got round in 16:04 so next time will be looking to go under 16 minutes!

Did a nudge over 3k in 14:36 yesterday - was quite pleased seeing as my fitness has definitely dropped in the past year. Now to build up my speed over distance.

Following a couple of Trialthons last year, I have applied to do the London Marathon as my next venture in aid of the charity that looks after my sister.

Very excited about it. What are the chance of getting through the normal ballot first time, and are they increased if I then go through the charity ballot later in the year?
It looks to me as if we have signed another 'average' player. I'll hold back my complete opinion until I see the lad play

I've just started doing a bit of running. I did 8k at the track last night in 34 minutes. Is this about right for a moderately fit fella?

Well what a disatser the 10k in Manchester was....

Woke up this morning wheezing like an old dog with my asthma. Must have felt the worse i have for at least a couple of years with it...not a good start....

on top of that was suffering from the two bob bits as well!

All in all felt would be best not too push it so walked round with the missus.....we made it though and raised some good money for medequip....both enjoyed it and will do another 10k...hopefully feeling a bit better next time!

Well done on getting to the finish line, dudleyred. You might not feel like it was a success but at least you didn't totally give up, and you've raised money for a good cause. Plus, if you still have the desire to do another one, then, well, that's a good thing!

Dilemma,

Meant to be running in the Brussels 20km on Sunday, I had a straight choice between running that or coming home for the 1st time in ages for a weekend on the lash (which to be honest I was angling towards).  Now, my mate has just come into my office asking if I want to play in a footy match on Friday......in Prague. 3 nights, hotel accomodation and transport supplied by the host team, needs the answer by 3 o'clock. Never been to be Prague but it sounds v tempting.

Did the Edinburgh marathon on Sunday and really enjoyed it. It was my first ever run - never even done a 5k race before - and in total i'd done just 13 miles of running as training, which is quite ridiculous really but i found it really hard to motivate myself. Anyway, the marathon went okay, kept a nice 10 min per mile pace for the first 15 before gradually getting slower. Adrenalin kicked in in the last couple of miles and i managed to get round in 4 hours 43 minutes which i'll happily take.

I've just come in from running the Blaydon Race. 5.9 miles (they've extended the course by .2 this year for some reason; not sure why, or why not by .3) from Newcastle to Blaydon in pretty intense heat (the tarmac on Scotswood Road was less than fun, as was the headwind). Lovely atmosphere, loads of people out to clap us on and I'm pretty happy with my time. Oh and I've now got a bottle of Broon to savour. An evening well spent!
