Animal Crossing: New Horizons
« on: March 23, 2020, 05:34:34 pm »
Anyone else playing this?

Always loved the AC games and this one just makes the others feel so insignificant in comparison!

I’ve seen the duplicating glitch but i’m choosing to not do it, also not time travelling, want to take my time and enjoy the experience.

Such a fantastic game to relax to, especially if you suffer with anxiety, depression and/or loneliness. This game was a massive help for me with those 3 in the Gamecube days 👍

It looks perfect gaming with everything going on in the real world at the moment.

I’d probably have caved and got it with a Switch if you could actually get them anywhere! Will be keeping an eye out for them becoming available again.

Got it on Saturday, it’s keeping me sane if I’m honest. Finally got the 30 iron nuggets to build the shop, and pay off my house (suspect I’ll be getting a new loan soon though...)

I can’t get the nuggets, stupidly ate a fruit and destroyed all the rocks I have access to, so have to wait for them to respawn in a day or two 😫

I've had a lovely time playing the shit out of this. We all decided to work Remotely from home yesterday at lunch time so got in there just ahead of BJ's announcement last night. Just gives me more time on this!

We have adopted this as a whole family, it's lovely all living on the same island.

Hyped to see my pear tree grow after only having oranges.

Got a fitness obsessed chimpanzee as my neighbour, he is very funny.

Can't wait to take my first trip to mystery island, have expanded my inventory so I can bring more stuff back.

I’ve done about 5 trips to mystery islands and got very lucky.

There are some rare islands that you might only get 1/10 trips, i’ve had 3 of them in a row! 😂
An island filled with Bamboo, one filled with Pears, one filled with Apples so now got 3 different fruits already, only just set up the base for Nook’s Cranny!

There is an island full of tarantulas that you have a higher ratio of getting in the nighttime. A Tarantula sells for 8k so 29 of them is a loooot of money! 232k. I have been rekt by every tarantula I've met so far though lol.

I bought mine from here and it works fine. Some other game code websites like G2A are really dodgy for Nintendo stuff but this has been good so far!

Ta for this - have ordered a Switch Lite from Currys, might take a few weeks to actually come but losing myself in Animal Crossing will be boss. I played it on the DS and fell in love; the Switch Lite will be boss, I'll play it in the garden with a few tins of ale  :)

CDKeys is very reputable, for anyone wondering - have used it for literally years. Also good for cheap NowTV Sports passes.

What do you do in it?

Live in indebted servitude to a capitalist tyrant.

Collect fruit, fish, bugs, chop wood, pay off your house at your own pace so you can expand your house to get more rooms for the furniture you make and get given. It literally is real time, so a minute in game is a minute in real life, and the weather and wildlife changes with the seasons. You can pick it up and play for an hour or two, put it down and do other things and then go back to it, or you can be like me and spend hours of quarantine catching critters and fossils to stock the (amazing) museum. Anything you can’t donate you can sell and put the proceeds towards paying off your house and buying cool stuff. It’s absolutely boss.

Yeah have to say the museum is fucking brilliant. Let my three year old spend an hour wandering round it yesterday, had no idea it was so big as I usually just offload to Blathers and then get off.

So when you pay off your house it’s over?

Nah not at all, the house is only part of it. It’s difficult to describe without making it sound awful (which it definitely isn’t) but there’s not really a “plot”, you start on a deserted island so there are objectives in terms of building it up and getting other characters to come and live there but other than that it’s more about making the place look the way you want it to. There’s great customisation options for your house/clothes/general bits and bobs and you get DIY recipes along the way so you can make your own stuff. And the gardening! It’s just a really pleasant way to pass the time.

Oh and as I mentioned before, there’s the museum which is probably my favourite part - you have to hunt for all the fish, bugs and fossils to make it complete and it’s done really well and is genuinely educational.

Is everyone’s island the same at the start or are they all slightly different?

Have a week off next week so am looking forward to playing on this and my PS4 a bit more!

Think the island layouts are randomised. You get one native fruit from a pool of six or seven. You will have the same features though, beaches, trees, rivers, airport, the plaza/Tom Nook's tent etc.

I started with apples, got peaches in the mail, but one friend has Peaches and another has Cherries so we have traded. Today a friend received Oranges and Pears from someone else they know so I was given 1 of each (leftovers!) and have planted some trees now. It's a case of asking your Switch Friends if they also have the game and then what their native island fruit is. Pretty sure I found a deserted island with peaches only once and that was after I had access to them on my own island.

Also seems the items in the Nook store are different for everyone and also Hot Items to sell, so sometimes I buy them nice things as gifts and other times I'll invite them over to my island and we craft a lot of Hot Items to sell for a good price. I've got about 8-10 Friends online at any moment all playing this game in this quarantine, its quite funny ;D

Started with Pears, got two fruit islands so got Apples and Peaches from them, then got Oranges and Cherries off a friend so I have all the fruits now.
