Was pleasantly surprised to see this, especially after they opened with the Uncharted spin-off thing. Probably would have preferred entirely new characters in that universe, but more Last of Us is fantastic either way.

Reinstalled The Last of Us a couple of days ago. Never has a game made me feel this anxious. Holy shit. The atmosphere is brilliant. I never feel safe, ever. It really makes me afraid, especially if the wife and my dog are sleeping. Can't wait for part 2.

Just heard this. It's a shame but it is what it is. New shots look ridiculous. Think Ghost of Tsushima gets pushed back as well looking at the release date for that.

Its a strange one.

Sounds more like a need to meet the pre-order market rather than coming up with a more imaginative routes to market (digital release or making use of places like Amazon).

If there was a sector that could thrive during a lockdown it would be the gaming market.

The only people I can see being affected are the people who will only go into a shop like Game and buy a physical copy. E-commerce sales are through the roof at the moment as people have sod all else to do and also I’d say a lot of people buy the digital version anyway.

Film delays I 100% get, computer games not so much

Yeah I've thought about this further since my last post and it doesn't really make sense as now is the perfect time to release a game.

Maybe the PS5 is being pushed back and they don't want to leave too much of a gap between this and the PS5 release.

Logistically they can't guarantee when people will play the game. Take the ff7r for example. Its a clusterfuck of a release, people playing it a week before it comes out digitally, imagine all the spoilers out there (there is alot of stuff in part 1 not in the original).

Also Iron Man VR is delayed for the same reason but nobody cares about that.

So your saying the delay of TLOU2 due to coronavirus isn't actually a legitimate reason but a well timed excuse that coincided with the coronavirus because the PS5 is being delayed instead?

It'll be for two reasons:

1) because they need to finish the game but can't get the people in the studio to do it.

Releases go right up to the wire, frequently sorting last minute patches, and they just can't have the manpower available to do it.

2) The physical release is also pretty important for sales. Everyone online likes to think that digital only is fine, but there's a fuckload of people that will still go to the shops to buy it, and Sony/Naughty Dog rightly don't want their hard work to get released and only have half the userbase they're aiming for. Digital sales may have overtaken physical last year but it's a 53/47 split. Anyone out there want to jeopardise 47% of their income? Nope, nope, nope. I do buy some games digital but for a big release I'd always buy a physical copy (resale value if nothing else) and hence the delay.

I’m not downplaying Physical copies of the game at all because people can still buy off Amazon (or any other online retailer) and get their copy delivered. That’s why I don’t buy the logistic excuse because as I said literally the only people affected are people who will only go into a shop to buy over a counter, which I have to say in this day and age must be a vast minority.

If people download the digital version or buy the physical version online and get it delivered they’ll all get it and be playing it at the same time, just like any release

I reckon they’re behind schedule and using this time to finish the game. Just annoying they’re using this crisis as an excuse

Even with only orders, people will get the game at different times.

The FF7 remake being a prime example, some who’ve had it pre-ordered for months have been playing it for days yet others who pre-ordered at the same time as them are still waiting.

There’s no guarantee that online sellers will get their entire shipment on time, so delaying it to fix some final bugs and guarantee full shipment delivery is the right move IMO, especially when so many gobshites will want to spoil it to prove they’re the first to play it.

Quite a few countries are on lockdown and there's nothing you can order on Amazon apart from essentials which again have a 3 week backlog. There's no guarantee this will significantly ease up by the end of May and I'm ok with not putting delivery staff into harm's way for a video game.

Right decision I think.

Looking back the first one is overrated.

They lost me a bit for this once they announced they will be releasing multiplayer separately.

I like to go in with no expectations if possible. Reviews of a game months before it's release leaves a sour taste.

I think it’s being released later down the line as a completely separate game. Not sure if it will be full price or what.
