BTW, I just love watching elite level handball & volleyball. Likewise with field hockey which has more flow with less fouls and better control.
Volleyball is great. Always think the beach volleyball is nowhere near as good. Also the constant bantz around it is kinda boring.

Yep, this is proper Olympic sport, not that skateboarding shite.

Must be gutting for Lichfield to be just pipped to bronze again.

Wish they'd stop saying the British swimmers are 'well placed' when they're very obviously miles off the pace ::)

Great swim from Ohashi.

How sad that we have turned our nation into a brand.  I miss the days when we were just Great Britain.

More absolutely baffling tactics in the women's road race. They've all fucked themselves out of a gold medal because if any of them bothered to chase down the breakaway they might end up being too tired to win a gold medal. Such a fucking weird sport ;D

Jade Jones losing is a big shock isn’t it?

Murray has pulled out of the tennis too, although he will play on in the Doubles. Not like he was going to defend his title anyway but still a shame.

At least Peary still looks nailed on for a Gold, he qualified half a second quicker than anyone else for the final!

This is already shaping up to be one of the least memorable olympics for me. No spectators, time difference makes it impossible to track everything that’s happened or watch something from heats to final and I’m working through a lot of it. I’ve no enthusiasm for it.

Come on she's no worse than some of the other pundits out there. There's no reason she shouldn't be given a chance she seems to have worked really hard behind the scenes to carve out career for herself in TV.

Shes awful - I cant watch her shes every bit as bad as Micah Richards, but at least he's confined to football

what makes you think shes worked really hard?

After her playing career she went to university to get a journalism qualification which is not something many top male ex players would have to do to get a plum job in the media.

I think she will improve as time goes on but looking at the journey she's been on it just doesn't sound like the opportunities she been given have just been handed to her on a plate.

Not even remotely comparable.

What is it about the physical act of that skateboarding section earlier that makes you think it doesn’t belong in the Olympics? What does skateboarding lack that the other events have?

It's not a sport for starters.

It probably wouldn't bother me that much if it weren't for the BBC losing most of their coverage. As it is though it's taking up valuable screen time.

It is a sport, and it is described as such in the dictionary. You can disagree with that but you’d be in a very small minority and I’d be interested to hear the reasoning.

Again though, I’m curious to hear which part of the competition earlier you found so disagreeable and unsuitable for the Olympics.

Two superb races and stories from today - Kiesenhofer winning the road cycling with a fantastic solo breakaway effort (looks like the Dutch rider in second initially thought she had won?). And then the Tunisian swimmer winning the 400m in the pool.

Love it when you get unexpected winners like this and not always the athletes from the biggest and best funded teams.

Dont think vaccine uptake is very high in Japan so would have been odd that the country could impose vaccinations as compulsory. Maybe the IOC could?
