My little girls team won the Level 2 European Cheer-leading championship today. I'm so pleased for her :D
That was last year, she won the 2014 equivalent as well!

Jack got his first 2 goals for Barnsley yesterday; they came up against two very good academy sides at Blackburn.  The pitches were immaculate as well.  He's beginning to fit in very well over there and he's really enjoying himself.

Harry at the English Schools Fell running Champs on Sunday - finished 21st in the year 8/9 group (still a year 8eight).  Very tough course at a local school near Halifax.

well its a road that i see as a scenic rat run. There were marshalls there but not the best however as my dad pointed out you need to have gone on a course to stop traffic or you can be liable for any accident, sure most of the Marshalls weren't but they helped out and give the whole affair was helped out by Calder Valley fell runners then they would have some nous.  Told our lad just to get on with it. They were crawling along, the problem was there was a big gap between my lad and the person in front so they tried to get the backlog going.

After his 6 weeks Jack has been asked to sign "full-time" with Barnsley and will be doing next Thursday. They were impressed with his attitude and ability to read a game and spot dangerous situations. A few technical bits to work on but overall they thought he was excellent.  Looks like Barnsley is going to be my 2nd home for a while!!

Jack had his end of season report last night. He'll be playing under 10's next year.  Needs to increase confidence/communication and his "firmness of passing".  Impressed with his defensive abilities, reading of the game and excellent footballing brain.

Praised for things other than the ubiquitously British "character," "passion," "commitment..."

Well done, young Jack, reading the game and a footballing brain will take you very far...

Jack compared to Iniesta tonight by one coach at Barnsley!  Always making himself available for a pass.  If he's 1% of the player Iniesta is/was I'll be a happy dad.

Got directed here from the cyclist thread by Pheeny, here is the little maniac that makes my life a lot better. He started mountain biking a couple of years back aged ten and not long after he was spotted by a group of riders who were so impressed with him they got together and gave him a better bike (like he actually needed any help leaving me behind). Currently he rides for fun (I am keeping him out of competition until he is 13 or so) but he has a ridiculous amount of natural talent. I am normally somewhere way off behind wondering how the hell I managed to fall off this time...
At the top of a climb we did recently

Excellent photos.  What age groups do they start with the Mountain biking?
Most of the competitions here have a *Sprog* category for under 12 or 13.
Main reasons I have kept him away from competitions are -
1. He is mad competitive and I want him having fun rather for now
2. He prefers downhill and Enduro type riding and the consequences of pushing too hard and crashing can be pretty high.

I am slowly letting him loose though.
Not long ago he chased the national junior (under 14) champion down one of our local trails and kept with him easily and not long after that he piled down a piece of trail gradually picking off the adult members of a a local club team one by one over a 1.5 mile piece of single track. At the bottom he had passed 9 of the 12 that set off in front of him and the club captain made a point to come over and compliment his riding which was nice.
I have taken him for lessons with a couple of local Pro riders but they both came back with the same message - he is doing everything naturally and there isn't much they can add in the skills department, I must just allow him to develop and enter him into age group competitions when he says he wants to try.

Its been a while since I have visited these pages, but seeing how the people here have supported Lucas I thought I should update with some very recent news :)

Last week Lucas was invited to attend a trial for the South East England conference team, this is quite an achievement in itself, he went for the trial last Friday night and was worked harder than ever!

We have been on tenterhooks since then waiting for the email telling us either way if he makes it to the next stage or as going to be cut.

That email came this evening just as we sat down to dinner and my boy has only gone and done it  ;D ;D He has made it to the next stage so very very happy and proud of him.

Been a while since i posted but as Jack had his best game for Barnsley yesterday I couldn't help myself.  The academy coach told him he was different class and the Sheffield United coach said he had a brilliant game and was "hard as nails".  The 2 academy coaches said before Christmas that if he could become more vocal and have more confidence in attacking play then he'd come on leaps and bounds as a footballer.  I think yesterday was that big step.

Harry finished 2nd in the West Yorkshire schools with a time of 4:39.91 (a new PB).  Less than a second behind the winner who had a PB of 4:32. Happy with his performance as he stuck with him even when the lad in front started to get clear he clawed him back.  Unfortunately English school standard is 4:22 for his age group.
