And the important accompanying Corollary: Do you have the boundless patience necessary to deal with the parents of said children?  Crucial consideration...

Thats an exceptional point. The art of diplomacy is often an unconsidered necessity. Trying to explain to a parent why a kid has been cut from a team, or hasn't made it past the trials is always fun.

Well i posted earlier that I wanted to get into this.

Ive since got a job as a coach/helper/observer at a local under 12's setup.

Next step pass my driving test (pretty soon im hoping) then I can get myself to a coaching course.

Gotta start somewhere.

Not footie but it is sports, took up the post of Junior Organiser at our Golf Club last year highly rewarding working with the lads alongside the Professionals, a lot of paperwork and CRB checking to do but if anyone gets a chance to work with kids in a full time or voluntary basis do it
i can tip em but cant back em

As is trying to deal with the parent who is convinced their offspring is the next Gerrard, when the reality is the child is a poor man's Poulsen...

Perhaps that's a bit harsh... :wave

Had a bit more information about this.

The FA have taken over delivery of the course directly, instead of running it through First4Sport.

The changes will only affect new participants, but they didn't put a timeline on when the course will be up and running again.

First4Sport won't be doing any L3 courses any more, and I have to go directly to the FA for my assessment, so unfortunately it looks like a waiting game four you, mate.

I've known Matt for a few years, he's a good lad and not a bad player at all. We worked for the same company a few years ago, and he grew up in the next town.

I'm presuming the other coach was Charlie Roberts, who's never too far from him - little guy who was at Norwich in some capacity.

Matty used to play for and coach Leigh Genesis (formerly Leigh RMI) after he finished playing pro, and co-incidentally I currently coach the 17s there.

There are also rumours that he was one of the final 10 auditionees to be part of Take That... not sure how true that is, though!

Just coached my U17s in a horrible game - the ref lost it early on and it's a massive surprise nobody ended up in hospital.

The opposition had one man sent off for an off-the-ball boot into our keepers bollocks, one of our lads got headbutted (and somehow booked for the priviledge), two of their players (and the majority of their parents, it has to be said) spent 90 minutes, shouting, swearing, and threatening anyone related to our club  - including me - and there was also apparently an incident involving our other coach and one of their players in the mellee that followed the sending off, but I didn't see what caused it. I saw one of their players pushing our other coach, but don't know about the provocation so couldn't really comment on it.

I have to give massive credit to our lads, as they kept their heads - one of our midfielders is normally a bit of a liability but spent the whole game laughing at the shithouses.

A moral victory there, even if they did nick a late winner. It's a shame though, because teams will go there and come away with nothing because they'll get kicked, bullied, and threatened from start to finish. The amount of bile that was directed at the ref was incredible, and he just bottled dealing with it early on, leading to an absolute shitfest of a game.

Bad day at the office.

my theory is

if the parents know anything about the game they give the ref abuse for any sport. in va and nc, its all american football and basketball. the refs get dogs abuse all game along as every Dad has some half baked opinion on a call

here, almost none of the parents really know soccer (i know, dont hate me) so they are happy just watching their kids have fun

its only when you get a really strong game will the parents start getting stuck in a bit

but then again, i live in the bible belt where the standard of manners at all levels of society are staggeringly high

the hardest reffing I had was doing an adult league that was full of different nationalities, they gave me a pretty hard time but still nothing compared to UK

So how are peoples' teams doing this season then?

I'm guessing a lot of the winter games have been cancelled for most teams!

kids soccer season starts in late march here

it will be hard to get over the last game of last year where we let them run free and the won 14-1 in a 60 minute U11 match

We've hardly played because of frozen pitches and then just as the weather got warmer the pitches (on Saturday) were waterlogged. Might as well plan a mid-winter break at this rate. It's a pain doing all the organising of matches and then having to call off each week.

Massive news from one of my mates - he's just been named the Tonga manager!

He was working out there for the Tongan FA with the national youth teams on a 12-month contract, and has now apparently been given the head coach job.

Not bad for a 24 year old!!

Can someone recommend me some active passing drills i.e keeping possession and then maybe some shooting drills.

Its for my team, our gaffas away so I said I'd take training as a joke and I got lumbered with it. We're an adult side in the Anglian Combination League which is classed as senior football, but not semi pro level.

Usually around 20 at training!

South Lancs Cup QF this weekend with my 17s.

The goalkeeper's working, striker's not fit, and two of the midfielders might be reffing.

Nice! That place look great. What were you doing there?

There's a chance I could be doing some stuff at White Hart Lane early next month, which I'd quite enjoy.
