I think it's along the lines of A-typical, A-synchronous, A-sexual etc or one of those other 'A' prefixed words.

But it could be my mind fucking with me and it could be completely different.

It's sort've like agnostic.

Let's say you have a set of square building foundations

You then have 4 building designs which can fit on top of those foundations but their facade structure is layout "agnostic" (this is where my word is required)

You then have 4 tins of paint all different colours, these would be structurally "agnostic" (this is where my word is required) as they are not affected by the house structure.
