Wasn't it 2 automatically relegated and promoted with the 3rd from bottom and 3rd from top playing a one off? I remember Charlton perennially escaping relegation in those.

Think so. They still do that in Germany too.

For a while (thought it was 4th from bottom but could be wrong) when they were restructuring the leagues.I don't understand why some people are against it,it has nothing to do with Sky so that reasoning is flawed.

That’s true. It also gives way more clubs something to play for through the season. If the top 3 went up the Championship would have been dead from about February.

You get the odd time where a clearly inferior team goes up but in the whole I think they’re good.
the worst team in PL history ironically was a third placed team who got promoted by the playoffs (derby in 2007), two years earlier a West Ham who just scraped in got to the cup final the following year and nearly won it and I think were top half so finishing higher doesn’t necessarily mean you’d be better in the prem

I never knew we used to do that in England as well

As far as I know in Germany the relegation/promotion play-off tends to be very dull, and massively favours the team that is already in the Bundesliga in terms of their winning record.

Indeed it was, Charlton finished 19th in the old first division but ended up in the playoffs, the final in those days was 2 leg affair, but was tied on aggregate after both legs, so they had a replay, Charlton won 2-1 after extra time, scoring both goals in the last 7 minutes of extra time.

Chelsea were relegated after losing the playoffs in 88, they won the second division 88/89 with record 99 points for that division

1990 the playoff final switched to Wembley & became a one off match, Swindon won the final but got demoted to 3rd division[reduced to 2nd on appeal] over financial & betting irregularities, Sunderland were promoted instead.

That talk on that Twitter thing is that Bruno Labbadia is in talks to become West Brom's new manager. He recently left Wolfsburg of his own volition, after doing a really great job with them.

Just imagine a playoff for the final CL spot between Spurs, ManU, Arsenal and Wolves.  It would be box office.

Coventry going to have to groundshare with Birmingham
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jun/07/coventry-city-to-groundshare-with-birmingham-city-next-season-efl
That opening paragraph is utterly depressing.

Quote
Coventry will play their home matches at Birmingham’s ground next season after the club’s owners, the London-based hedge fund Sisu, failed to conclude a deal to stay at the Ricoh Arena with the arena’s operators, Wasps.

Founding Premier League team Coventry will play their matches at the home of their rivals Birmingham next season after the club's owners, parasitic vulture capitalists, failed to conclude a deal to stay at the football ground Coventry built with the arena's operators, a London rugby club.

Outside the bubble that is the Premier League, the state of football in this country is a real mess.

O'Neill sacked by Forest. Shock horror. Another sentimental managerial appointment that hasn't worked out.

What a pity

Slowing moving back to his level, just need Wycombe to rehire him and the circle of life is complete
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Has Lampard left? Obviously him to Chelsea is a done deal.

I presume Cocu has been coaching in the Netherlands?
