Bruno Cheyrou
« on: May 5, 2002, 03:59:13 pm »
Houllier was at the match Lille-PSG last night, commentators on television were saying he was there to keep an eye on a player...rumour has it that he was looking at Lille's central midfielder Bruno Cheyrou. He's a bit like Stevie G although not as good, he's young and has a good shot on him. Worth about 4m I think so he's no superstar but could be another shrewd GH purchase...

French oppinion on Cheyrou.
(PSG, Lille and Lyon fans)

"Yeah, I've been very impressed by Bruno Cheyrou who's been easily Lille's MVP this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in a major team very soon. And thus extensively, in the French NT."

"feels good that you all have noticed Bruno Cheyrou! he is very GOOD!!"

"Stéphano! It´s cool that you like Bruno Cheyrou! i also thinks him is worldclass! he have done a marvelous season with Lille!!
hopes he would be in our NT soon!!"

"Yeah, Bruno Cheyrou is my favourite French playing in France! He's not that young (24) but he definitely has a good margin of improvement ahead of him. In all case. He deserves a top club."

Another oppinion on Cheyrou.

"Bruno Cheyrou !!! this is a class player! one of my favourite players in Le Championnat! he is a attacker or offensive midfielder and has good technique and shoots very good!!!
his brother Benoït Cheyrou plays also for Lille and is also a great youngster! yes I heard that Liverpool almost had signed Cheyrou and thats a shame cause it´s sad seeing all our players leaving our leauge.. "

It's also rumoured that we'll sign Mikael Arteta.

I actually prefer Ged to find out these "lesser" names and turn them into stars - Hyypia and Riise to name the best two.

There is no pressure on them to perform like there is on the likes of Anelka and other big names - as nobody really knows the full extent of their talents except our scouting team. They can just get on with their football and build their reputation with us - rather than relying on previous reputations.

Ill be honest and say ive never heard of the lad coz i only follow English football - but if he turns into another Sami signing he must be half-decent. And if hes gonna score 11 for us next season from midfield that would be a welcome return!

Oh - and thats a class song there Steve.  ;D ;D ;D

the reality these days is that to buy a big name you have to pay riciculous cash.therefore buys like this are strange because they represent more of a gamble (is the player proven quality) and less of a gamble at the same time (ie:there isn't a noose of 20m around the players neck.
when we signed hyppia i remember saying words to the effect of "a finnish defender, what the fuck are we doing?"
well we all know the answer to that.
robert pires was only 6 million.
or up north here (regardless of the quality of the football etc)
larsson cost celtic £750,000 and he is a modern legend to all their fans.
i have to say i'm excited if somewhat blinded.

At Arsenal we sang - Chim Chimeney Chim Chimeney Chim Chim Cheroo, weve got anelka so fuck off Kanu.

So if we DONT sign Anelka, and I doubt we will...

Chimeney Chim Chimeney Chim Chim Cheyrou, fuck off Anelka cos weve got Cheyrou.  :D

Hmmmm.

Prefer the original idea.

Chim Chimeney Chim Chimeney Chim Chim Cheyrou, weve got Bruno, Bruno Cheyrou.

he is a left sided midfielder. But can also play centrally i've heard. Attack minded, scored 11 goals this season for Lille. But isn't averse to hard work and tracking back!

France's transfer market doesn't open till May 15th as it where. So nothing can be finalised till then.

He's not a winger, he's more of a central player who likes to go forward...bit like Stevie G to be honest.

Sounds like a replacement for Berger. Does this mean that Riise is considered a left back by GH?

chim chiminey is a west ham song isn't it?

my west ham mate I had a slightly racisit but funny onw for spurs:

we'll be walking round Tottenham, walking round tottenham, with our willys hanging out, singing I've got a foreskin, I've got a foreskin, I've got a foreskin, have you?

no offence, just the bastard cockneys. :D

When you say he plays "on the left", I'm presuming this is because he is left footed. He CAN play on the left (or the right actually) but usually he is a central attacking midfielder. He obviously strays to the left because he's left footed, but he's certainly not a winger in the Kewell mould. So he isn't here to replace Berger...probably more like replacing Gary Mac, in an attacking midfield role.

i would have thought that means he IS to replace Berger - Berger ain't no winger, more of a left-sided attacking midfielder (aaahh semantics!).

What I mean is, he won't play on the left...it'll be more like

Berger Cheyrou Gerrard Smicer

left to right, for example...

I have it on good authority that he CAN play on the left or right too, BUT his prefered and best position is in the centre.

Dunno who gave you that information Steve, but I'm in there now talking to a Lille fan- he says Cheyrou is left footed, plays on the right or in the centre...not on the left...also says he's going to be a future France international and that he is excellently technically... the plot thickens...
