Hull were definitely one, they used to be the answer to this:
What is the largest city in Europe to never to have a team in the top flight?

I assume Bristol have had a top flight football team then? I don't ever recall it!

Bristol City went from (old) Division 1 to Division 4 in about 5 years (1980's) and nearly went bust.

2007-08 Bournemouth had a double administration, relegated to League 2 & docked 17 points for 2008-09 season, 5 minutes from going into Liquidation, the fans had a bucket collection just to stay afloat, barring a 19 goal swing which will not happen are now in the Premier League.

Congratulations to Bournemouth!

On the other hand with the possibility of winning the Championship after leading the league for much of the season and  that glorious old trophy we won 18 times, still to find its home, I think the celebrations should have been more muted.

I reckon most teams in that league would bite your hands off for 2nd place at the start of the season. All about getting up, winning the title is just a bonus. Especially for a side like Bournemouth who have never been in the top flight.

Definitely not. But we're not a Championship side heading for unchartered territory. My point was if you'd said to Bournemouth fans at the start of the season you'll come 2nd and get promoted how many do you think would have turned it down in the hope they won the title?

Bournemouth and Southampton south-coast derby should be a good match next season.  (That is essentially a Derby isn't it?)

33 miles between them, so yes almost as close as Portsmouth which was once the big south coast derby.

(Le havre for those following 343 miles by car, or 6.5 hours, unless you are swimming.)  ;)

Irrelevant, if I am the manager of that team, I absolutely have my eyes firmly focused on winning that piece of silverware and entering the Premier League as Champions.

You either have the winning mentality or the showing up and looking for bonuses mentality.

I don't think one precludes the other though, Milton. They were right to celebrate certain promotion. It only becomes a problem if they lose their last game. If there were several games to go, it would be an issue, but with one game left, it's easy to ride the crest of that particular wave for one more week

I'm not saying its a huge issue, but if it were my team, I would have stopped the celebration at hugs and fist pumping on the field after 90 minutes, and a round of applause for the fans. No champagne or shoulder rides!

Win the next game and make a different kind of history! Then you can pop the bubbly and get drunk as a lord!

Was hoping for a closer finish to the season, maybe a final day fight for the title between a few teams!

Maybe something like this is too far fetched in England:

(4 games left and all teams can technically still win the title)

Well done to them though.

We already have shit in the country, and the game of Liverpool fills life with joy. Thanks

Bournemouth will be a breath of fresh air next season. They don't park the bus unlike a certain team, 4-0 after 85 minutes and they want more goals, that I like  :)

I'd like to see them do well (except against us obviously) - but I think they'll struggle to put a big enough squad together to survive.

Must be a great feeling for the Bournemouth fans to win the grand old trophy, and a sickener for Watford blowing it in the last moments. They were probably still hungover from celebrating promotion!  :D

Coming from someone who's lived in Southampton, nope - not at all. The media will try their best to make that a SUPER SUNDAY SOUTH COAST DERBY but it's really not. We're extremely close but neither set of fans acknowledge any sense of rivalry.

Very happy to see Bournemouth win the league and coming up, think they will be very similar to Reading (in the 1st season) when know-one really knew how to play them and will end up safe (not as high as Reading did)

Looking forward to seeing them play and how they do in the transfer market. Personally think they will come into this league and play attacking football

Don't know if Berbatov is exactly the guy you want when you're facing a fight to stay in the PL. Will his heart be in it or will he just collect the paycheck

But a hearty congratulations to Bournemouth. IIRC they've NEVER been in the top flight in England at any point in their history. Don't know how they'll avoid instant relegation. They need to enlarge their stadium dramatically or have a very rich sugar daddy to stay up

Bristol

Bristol City were in the top flight between 76 & 80, plus had an earlier stint in the top flight finishing 2nd in 1906-07.
