Fuck. The King of Comedy and Blue Velvet gone.  :(

Didn't expect Blue Velvet to last, but really thought The King of Comedy would for another round at least. It is probably my favourite movie from the 80s and my favourite from Scorsese. An absolute masterpiece. Great pick.

Woah. I thought about Die Hard and knew it would go in the next five picks, but Repo Man? That's a spectacular choice, one that was on the wild card list for sure. King of Comedy's a great pick too. Pretty sure almost nothing on my shortlist's going to be free on my next turn.

Can I just say I think we could just do Adventure/Fantasy category as the movies we pick. :(

I could literally select every single movie from that category.

Thanks, happy with that, I love it too, and it's one of those films that are more relevant now than when it initially came out. Definitely one of Scorsese's and De Niro's best.

I have my time in real life, then UK time, then the RAWK clock, which is still on Bangkok time for me. Can someone confirm that it has been around two hours since Nicholls picked?

Yeah, Repo Man is a great leftfield pick at this stage. I still laugh when I think of the scene where the protagonist goes to the hospital, uncovers a hospital table to reveal his nerdy co-worker dying, and when he's about to say his last words he just covers him with the sheets again, and continues with no fucks given. Been searching for a video of that scene for a few minutes but couldn't find anything, but what a hilarious moment.

Yeah, Sheer, couldn't get excited by what was left in sci-fi, it's much too impressive for the comedy genre and I just knew it wouldn't have lasted another 20 picks as a wild card... got a belter for that anyway. I love Alex Cox, nearly a scouser (Bebington), talks like one if you forgive the mid atlantic drawl and a brilliant film maker. Plus, I've had the pleasure and he is fucking nuts. Nice nuts but nuts. He was wanting to film the Revengers Tragedy in the Edge Hill tunnels when I met him! His moviedrome intro's are legendary. Harry Dean Stanton, Emilio Esteves, an Iggy Pop influenced sound track, what's not to like. Anybody not seen it I recommend it highly

That was my number one comedy pick as well, but as you say, there are loads to pick from.

Yes, I did laugh at Airplane, but it was a long time ago now before I got so hardbitten and cynical.

I’m in sunny Northern Ireland. Beautiful here and not roasting.

There are tonnes of good family/animation films from the 80s. The only thing is unlike in the 90s Disney and Pixar weren't pumping out classics. As someone who grew up in the 90s, I prefer animated films from the 80s. They are less formulaic, and more mature. The animation from this era also looks more organic.

Plus the 80s had some Christmas classics too.
