Atalanta seem to be fluking it a bit so far. They should’ve conceded about 8 goals so far and have about 6 points fewer on underlying metrics. Don’t think they’ll last very long unless they find some performances. Roma will eventually come good and finish right up there. They’re the best team on expected points. They hammered Atalanta.

Roma have absolutely destroyed this game. Hacking at everything that moves, feigning injury after every tackle, surrounding the referee. Mourinho’s crew at their purest.

This fucking league hahahah. Incredible!

Watching Leao at another English team soon is going to be sickening.

Serie A is super fun to watch. When was the last time both inter and juve did not finish in the top 4?

Napoli starting well as they did last season, wonder if they finally have the squad quality and experience to get it over the line.

Watching Lazio - Spezia now, straightforward so far for Lazio after the first half, up 2 - 0, but you look at the squad, they're maybe lacking in a little bit of star quality in attack to be dark horses for positions higher up the table at season's end. The structure and play is good, looks a lot more like a Sarri side than last season. Aesthetically it's always good fun watching a Sarri side.

Edit: Provedel has been steadily impressive for them the past few games after their new goalie signing was sent off, and couldn't get back in. Wonder if there's a future national call-up in store for him. Just a complete goalie.

I was at a very good Italian out in sticks here in Germany September the 18th and the owner was telling some of the guests that his team were playing away to Milan. When a woman asked him what his team was and how they were doing he asked her “ Do you know Liverpool? Do you know Liverpool” my team Napoli just beat them in the Champions league” When her husband / partner suggested that Napoli could meet Frankfurt in the knock out stages of the CL he said “ Er, no, we only want to play big teams” Bloke nearly choked on his spaghetti and was well pissed off. A little giggle from me didn’t help the atmosphere but hey, Tough shit eh?

A little correction: Was checking on it and Provedel has already had a call-up, was a part of the Italian squads v England and Hungary.

Serie A is easily the most unpredictable league with teams like Atalanta, Juve, Inter, Roma.
Napoli seems to be serious about the title this year.

This could be it for Allegri. The balance of power has well and truly shifted in Italian football. Juventus are nowhere.

Best league in the world, it's not even close anymore. The other leagues might arguably have better players, but the football has become unwatchable.

That Juventus team is full of averageness. Team today - Average goalkeeper, average defence (Bonucci was world class in his heyday but those days are long gone). Average in midfield and decent up front. True they were missing Chiesa who imo is world class and Pogba but still Chiesa apart the only player of top quality in their prime of coming up to their prime is Vlahovic, Locatelli and Bremer who I do think will be a very good centre back.

Shocking management of their squad and recruitment looking for short term expensive fixes such as Di Maria, Rabiot, Ramsey etc. No long term planning at all.

Catching up on the round of games, Udinese have been a surprise so far this season, with their fast counter-attacks and high tempo game under Andrea Sottil. Had a decent result v Atalanta as well during the most recent matchday, still placed high up the table.

I like what Vincenzo Italiano is doing at Fiorentina, think he's the type of coach, with his approach, who if you give him a top striker, will get you up the table far in excess of what you can expect based on the quality of the rest of the starting eleven. As it is, when you ask average defenders and midfielders to tilt the risk reward notch higher to pin opponents back, play a high block, but  can only count on so-so strikers, you end up with results like that 4-0 defeat against Lazio. Some credit to Lazio as well of course for their improved defensive work this season, but still gave up a couple of good chances against Fiorentina which weren't capitalised on.
