The Guardian running a story that Villa midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka won't sign a new contract and is attracting interest from Liverpool, City and United.

One of the most promising talents in the country. Would be a nice addition to Jones and Elliott and hopefully Bellingham at some point in the future!

Was outstanding when we played them in the youth cup but feels like he'd be better off not coming here and competing with Jones/Elliott. Needs to go somewhere where he's going to be guaranteed plenty minutes. Get the playing time and the top clubs will be in for him still in a few years with big contract offers

Has got Dortmund or Leipzig written all over it.

Any reason why we couldn’t sign him and then loan him out to Germany for the experience?

Better than paying Dortmund a fortune in a few years.

Loans for young players are always a big gamble and should be mostly avoided for the better players.

Plus if you're good enough for say Dortmund to want you and play you why would you sign elsewhere and then take a loan to a lesser club.

Bajcetic plays in midfield too.

Looks his best position IMHO. I wonder if he is not dominant/tall enough to be a Klopp CB but looks like he could slot into Fabs position nicely in a few years

Watched bits of this. Thought City were good playing through our press to create chnaces and we were bad defending on transition. Had enough chnaces to score though and their keeper had 3 pretty bad moments where the bounce of the ball just didn't go out way that could have changed it, think 2 were at 1-0 from memory.

Been a tough run for the u18s but due to progression/injuries there's been a few u16s/first years getting more time than we probably wanted them to and players probably out of position now as well.

Despite the bad defensive record I think a few of the more defensive players have looked good this season (Stephenson, Davidson, Chambers, Miles, Bajcetic who I think has looked better at centre back than midfield so far) Part of this might be that the technical standard is so high now that the defensive players stand out compared to past years.

The news about Harvey Elliott’s progress got me wondering about Layton Stewart and Tom Hill.

Last news I can find about Layton was that he was back running at the end of August. Must be fairly close to a return unless he’s had a setback?

Tom’s been out for 15 months now and the last reference I can find is when he was included in our UEFA youth league squad in September.

Yeah, really feel for Tom Hill.  I thought he was the Tyler Morton is you like iPod his age group.  Played up I. The U23s early, looked good in centre mid.  Now Morton, who was injured when frost up with the U18s and it was all Hill, has overtaken him.  He must have got injured again to be out so long.  Really tough.

Top the group after Atletico beat Porto which means we're straight the the last 16. Seemed quite a scrappy second half in our game from what I could see before the signal seemed to just give up.

Just watched the December episode of the Academy.  Tom Hill and Leyton Stewart giving a brief interview.  Layton has been out since March and hopes, all things going well, to be back mid January.  Tom hill has been out 15 months and hopes to be back late February.  That was one hell of an injury.

I hope his contract is of sufficient length to give him a year to get back up to speed, he got injured as a boy but will be returning to mens football, it'll be a big adjustment.

Some of the youngsters coming through have had a proper taste of just how quick it is in England at the top level, real wake up call and they'll be all the better for it.  Koumetio was just so, so casual, and kept getting caught out.

Yeah that's his game, but he doesn't have the speed of someone like Virgil to get away with it at this level.  His passing range is insane for a centre back, though, off either foot.  Great composure, just needs more pep in his step, but I dunno if that's something that can actually be coached.

The kids are alright. Kids are kids, they will make mistakes, but will learn from them. They played a half to give the senior players a much needed break. That saved a lot of first team minutes in the league. Compare to what happened to the fresh Leicester players, losing two seniors who may not play against us next week, and still losing the game. Even at 1-3 down, the remaining kids did their job. They are alright.

Yep, needs the urgency of actual real football, where every mistake matters. He'll soon sort himself out.
