There was a Led Zepp programme on the other night which was more to do with Delta Blues and the early protagonists such as Charlie Patton, Son House and Robert Johnson through to Howlin' Wolf- it was excellent.  Nothing at all to do with Led Zepp really - no interviews with them or their music.

Surprised this thread hasn't got more traffic.

In my opinion SKY Arts is rivalling BBC4 for cracking music documentaries and live concerts

Watched a brilliant one on Friday night about the 'Whisky a Go Go' Club on the Sunset Strip in LA

Some brilliant stories and anecdotes about the huge bands and celebs that played the club.  'The Doors' early days were spent as the resident house band in the mid-60's FFS!! :)

Well worth a watch on Catch-up.

Often dip into Sky Arts. Some great documentaries. Recently watched episodes on the Hollies, Bad Company and Jethro Tull - where else would you get that? Thoroughly enjoyed the recent series featuring genial Geordie Brian Johnson where he met up and interviewed some of the worlds great rock icons (and Sting)

Yep, always some good stuff on there.  Will have to catch up with the Whisky a Go Go doc.

One of the anecdotes on the Whisky A Go Go doc was quite topical.

The club managers son said he was getting reports of a long haired weirdo hippy sat on the stairs blocking the way refusing to move and claiming he was Jesus.

They eventually manged to throw him out and he warned the owners he 'could have them killed'. They just laughed it off but it turned out it was only Charlie Manson!!

The son went on to say he had Sharon Tate and her crowd in the club on numerous occasions and he was invited back to Polanski's house to party but thankfully never took up the invite.

yeah, excellent channel with stuff on there that in all honesty is too good for Sky.......Look out for Dying Laughing...terrific documentary about the art of standup comedy - told directly by comedians themselves in a series of talking-head clips...everyone from Frankie Boyle and Frank Skinner to Jerry Lewis, Jerry Seinfled and Garry Shandling...fascinating and at times, moving stuff...includes some buttock clenching / cold sweat tales of dying on stage ..and the only time Jason Manford has ever said anything that's made me laugh
They have life in them, they have humour, they're arrogant, they're cocky and they're proud. And that's what I want my team to be.

There was a really good documentary about Laurel & Hardy on over Christmas - really 'behind the scenes' stuff and rather sad how they ended up.

Great channel though.

Brilliant feature documentary on ‘The Who’ last night.  Called ‘Amazing Journey: The story of The Who’

Archive film and photos plus thoughtful contributions from Roger, Pete and those close to the band.

How Keith lasted until he was 32 is a miracle In itself to be honest.  What a drummer though!!

Brilliant doc on Arts the other night called "White Riot"

An energising film telling the story of a vital national protest movement - Rock Against Racism, formed in 1976 when a group of artists united to take on the National Front.

Archive footage and interviews with the people and artists involved, explained loads about the culture and political tensions of the time.  It was fucking brilliant, it really was.

The doc explained each of the artists involvement and showed footage of their gigs and how they became involved in RAR.  Sham 69 were really unlucky they came across as a far right band when they actually weren't anything of the sort.  The footage from some of Sham's gigs was brutal.  Skins everywhere chucking the Nazi salutes.

On the day of the RAR gig the crowd marched from Trafalgar Square to Victoria park.  En-Route the national front loons were waiting outside a pub to kick-off.  When they saw the sheer size of the crowd made up of Tens of thousands of punks, Hippies, Left wing groups and all manner of people from all over the country, they just fucked off back in the pub.  All this is shown on archive footage.

The footage of Sham and The Clash performing White Riot at the end of the RAR gig was incredible.  What a feeling it must of been to be there.

Really is well worth a watch on catch-up.
