Southampton H Sat 8/5 8:15pm
« on: May 8, 2021, 06:56:28 am »
Come on Redmen!!
I usually enjoy watching us play Southampton as they play decent football, have some tidy players and we usually win. I did not enjoy the away game this season! We gave away a poor early goal and never really bossed the game and fell to defeat.
It goes without saying that we need to find our finishing but Leicester losing with their tough finish to the season ahead means a win here makes thing interesting again.
I suspect we go 4231 with Nat Phillips being fit meaning Fabinho and Thiago match their midfield two and have more qualities. They are on a crest of a slump and missing key players in Ings, Taki , Bertrand and Romeu.
Set pieces are their obvious weapon and Phillips back should help with that.
3-1 win I reckon.
Thoughts?
Come On You Mighty Scouse Reds!!

Hopefully Chelsea will have lost to Man City just before we kick off so a win still gives us a chance.

That Leicester result ... really didn’t need pulling back in like that haha.

We’ve had plenty of rest so I’m just hoping for an intense performance.

If we do that, the rest should come.

Nice one Roger. As always I'm looking forward to this.

Ings out. Taki can’t play. Romeu and Bertrand the other notable absentees.

Ings the big one, obviously! Should be twatting these lads.

They’ve fallen off a cliff since the start of the season.

16th in the form table over the last 5 games. 19th over the last 10.

Worst in the league over the last 15 and 20 games.

If Chelsea lose, then it'll literally be back in our own hands. Pretty amazing, given the season we've had.

Regardless of what happens the teams around us (Spurs an Chelsea) its important that our lads go into this with a positive attitude with a lot of fight for the club, for the fans.

Its been a weird horrible season,
one that probably everybody will be glad to see the back of so lets end it on a high - yeah we might not get that fourth place but show us that you want it.

I enjoy watching Southampton but with Ings out we should really win this comfortably.

I think this will be difficult but we should be really fresh and having Phillips back will be a plus for our midfield.

I would expect City to be really up for their game as they can win the title today and Chelsea will be more tired from their CL game as City can change 5/6 players around with ease.

I just want to see a good performance from us - it's about building for next season now and seeing which players can prove to Klopp they deserve another season with us.

I didn't realise just how bad they've been until I checked the table. I half expected to see them hovering around 10th/11th, then realised that since beating us on 4th January, they've  played 16 league games and their record is W2 D2 L12. They lost 6 in a row after beating us and have completely fallen off a cliff.

I don't want to tempt fate and I know everyone's form is unpredictable, but this is a golden chance to keep up the push for 4th - especially with so many of their players out. We've bagged more points in our last 5 games than they have in over 4 months. They are safe but in dreadful form, whilst we've had 2 weeks off and are unbeaten in 5. Just win any way we can, and see how the other results go.

Alisson, Trent, Phillips, Kabak, Robertson, Fabinho, Thiago, Wijnaldum, Mane, Jota, Salah.
I've got OCD, but I prefer to call it CDO so it's in alphabetical order.

We've had two weeks without a game as well, but Klopp was talking about bumps and bruises so we must have been kicked to bits before that.

Hopefully everybody who plays is feeling fresh and hungry, we could really do with destroying these handily  to get the mind set in place.

any 3 points will do though.

Worst in the league over the last 15 and 20 games.

Had a good 2020 sandwiched between two terrible half season's basically...

2019 portion of 2019-20: P20 W6 D4 L10 Pts22 (1.1ppg)
2020 portion of 2019-20: P18 W9 D3 L6 Pts30 (1.66ppg)

2020 portion of 2020-21: P16 W7 D5 L4 Pts26 (1.63ppg)
2021 portion of 2020-21: P17 W3 D2 L12 Pts11 (0.65ppg)

Their calendar year average of 1.65ppg extrapolated to 38 games would see them on a decent 62/63 point season - the two half season's either side would see them on 34.

Strange side.

I’d say that’s fair. We could potentially kick off with 3 of the 4 sides directly above us all dropping points. If we can’t get the job done against these then just rest everyone up and use the ressies for the rest of the season.
