I think this is the root of it. They saw first hand the difference between having what it takes to win and being every neutral's favourite also ran. And they embodied it... and then they got another hard lesson in the league last season of a different kind... and they embodied it...

I've described Klopp as a 21st Century Shankly, in that he made the people happy again.  But he actually embodies the best aspects of both Shanks and Paisley in my opinion.  He's built both the foundation AND the house.
