Former LFC Player Watch ...
« on: September 1, 2011, 04:06:17 pm »
Where are they now ?

Either we hated them or loved them.

Let's not dedicate this thread to just one player but many...

They can be retired and doing punditry or still playing at other clubs, or managing etc. etc.

Decided to put it in Sports & Gen. as the Liverpool Forum is for current LFC news and discussion.

Neil Mellor.

Had a habit of scoring for a month or two, including that winner against Arsenal as well as one of the goal against Olympiacos. Thought he could be the next big thing but injuries just plagued his career. Currently at Preston North End.

Lee Peltier.

Played a Champions League game for us at one point am sure  ???  He moved to Yeovil for a "small fee" impressed there and got a move to big side Huddersfield Town. He then continued his development becoming on the radar for many Championship sides. Then during the Summer moved to Leicester for 700k scoring on his league debut against Coventry. His future looks bright

Nah you're alright.

When your Mum used to pick you up from school and you'd run out and be like 'Mummy I got 9/10 in the spelling test today', would she go 'phenomenal, son'.

Cos if she did she's a stupid fuck.

Might as well recall some of the 2005' class.

Sinama Pongolle

Amazing, isn't it. That he was only 20 years old when he appeared for us that season in 2005. He scored against Olympiacos in just one minute after coming on a sub. I remember him sending Campbell and Viera 'to the cleaners' at Anfield with a little bit of skill. Signed in 2001 by Houllier at the mere age of 16. Unfortunately, he never became a great player who all could remember... He left us in 2006. His career has declined from Anfield to Sporting CP and is currently having a loan spell at Saint Étienne.

Jack Hobbs came as highly touted central defender, was sold on and is now at Hull City.

Daniel Ayala who we sold onto Norwich, poor guy just suffered an injury which is going to keep him out for a long time.

Luis Garcia

Lost track of him after he moved from Atletico, turns out he moved on to Racing Santander then Panathanaikos and this season has started playing for Puebla in Mexico which is quite odd!

Good luck to the lad anyway

Didn't know Djimi had signed for Marseille! Chance to get another Champions League medal!  ;)

Just had a read of Djimi's wiki and I must say I'd forgot all about him nearly joining the bitters in 2004. No Djimi, no Istanbul.

Retired at the end of last season. 04/05 was his last a regular for us as Pepe came in. After that, he went to Real Madrid where he became a bench warmer. I'll always remember him for Istanbul.

Oh.

Well, I checked the source for the Seve claim in the wiki piece and it links to a gossipy La Liga site which doesn't seem to mention either Seve or Luis and the only other mention of the two being linked that I could find was a brief mention in a table quiz thread on an LFC fansite.

So I'm sceptical.

Milan Baros

Only 29 years old. Another one of Houllier's signing, signed in 2002. He finished top scorer at Euro 2004 and also played a part in the 04/05 team. Never really was an instinctive' striker and Rafa sold him to Aston Villa for 6.5m. After one season he joined Lyon and had a stint with Portsmouth. Currently plays for Galatasaray and scored two goals against us in a friendly.

Fernando Morientes

All remember the next big thing for Liverpool.
Rafa Benítez Bought him from Real Madrid in 2005.
He was not the best of signings only scoring 8 goals in 28 league games and he played 41 games for Liverpool scoring only 8.
He was sold to Valencia after a year and retired in 2010.
