By the way, is anybody else still vibrating from the bassline on Month of May?! :)
It was awesome.  :)

Ready To Start was a brilliant way to open as well. There were a few songs that i was hoping to hear live but they didn't have in the set, but overall i can't complain because what a show it was.

They are just such an exceptional band, everything about them is special. Win is a phenomonal front man, and Will, Regine, Richard and co put so much into every song that you can't help but fall in love with them.

The drummer is lucky he wasn't in hospital after the gig! Pretty sure he only just made it back onto the stage after he had taken a wee trip onto the steel bars supporting the stage.

They are the band of a generation, and i hope they keep on the same track they're on now. Can't wait for album number 4.

Wednesday in Manchester was a great gig too. Agree Regine was fantastic, especially on Sprawl, a magnificent number. Great finish too with The Suburbs - a track the whole family (which includes my three-year-old) now sing, hum & whistle around the house, so remorselessly have I played it for the past year or so. Great night.

Probably the best live band out there at the moment, certainly the best I've seen.

They manage to strike such a good balance between the show being unique and and experience as well as being incredibly tight musically and well rehearsed. Which is amazing considering how many people have so many fingers in so many pies in regards to how many instruments they play.

I was a bit iffy about them when they first 'broke' thought they were a bit too much of an art student's band, but then I managed to see them just after Neon Bible came out and all doubts were laid to rest. Great sound.

If you dont get the hype or are on the fence about them I really recommend seeing them live if you can, adds a completely new element to them.

Back home in NY after a fantastic weekend from start to finish in Edinburgh.

I sent the post from right after the show from my phone so couldn't really go into detail but one of my initial thoughts - echoed by almost everyone on here - was that us adoreurs de Regine were made very happy last Thursday!  Think that's the most lively and engaged I've ever seen her throughout a set.  She was just so clearly into the occasion - as was the entire band - that it was a joy to watch.  Would've loved them to hear them do "Empty Room" again considering how on form she was but I won't complain.  Our seats in block 15 were excellent but the left rear portion of the stage was blocked from view - obviously a drag when Regine was on her own drum kit but fine when she was on Jeremy's.

Personally very happy that Laika made it back into the set; thankfully reinstated over the last couple of weeks - whew.   :)  Wouldn't have been the same without it.   Also very happy that Rebellion was the closer - as fun as Sprawl II is (and it has closed a bunch of shows over the last year), Rebellion (or Wake Up,  of course) is a far better choice.

Felt a little bad for Win as he looked like he was seriously debating the crowd body surf during "We Used To Wait" but realized (probably rightly) he might not make it back to the stage.   But aside from that, everyone was exuberant and just let the setting lift them up (though was anyone else just a little worried for Will there at the end?).   And what a setting!  Great crowd, I loved the new stands, thought the sound and lighting were excellent and of course, the castle backdrop wasn't too shabby, was it?  **** me.

Best Arcade Fire show I've seen?  Hmmmmm - not sure I can say that.  But certainly one of the best gigs - best occasions - I've been lucky enough to experience in this lifetime.

And not for nothing but oh how I smiled when Bryan Ferry *didn't* getting cannon fire after his gig at the castle on Saturday night...   8)

:)

I wonder is it likely that they'll play the UK again soon? They only have two more dates announced which are both in Canada, but i'd love to go see them again sometime next year.

Sadly i don't think they'll be back here anytime soon, but the good news is, the reason for that is probably because they'll be too busy recording that 4th album.  :)

Think you're probably correct there - it is sounding like they'll be taking a break after the Canada shows.  They've been touring steadily for 13 months.

If they run true to past form, that means a year off with a new album in 2013?  Bah - far too long to wait!

PS - you may want to have poke around YouTube, Mr. D - there are some really great clips up from the show.  And while I was off sightseeing elsewhere anyway, it didn't even occur to me that anyone who just happened to be at the castle that afternoon would be there for the band's soundcheck!!  There's a clip up of them doing Modern Man, which I'd have loved to hear during the actual show.

Yeah i think i've watched 'em all about 10 times each now!

Must admit i got slightly jealous when i realised people had met them at the soundcheck.

I really loved the first EP, and the Neighbourhood tracks and most of the first LP. Neon Bible was too overblown for me, and while The Suburbs marked a bit of a return to form, I felt it was still overlong and self-consciously 'epic'. Still made my top ten of that year mind.

Looking forward to the new one, hoping they win me back. Excellent live when I heard (couldn't see!) them at Glastonbury a while back.

That must have been excellent John.

The album will most likely be released late this year. I'm thinking Octoberish. Tour will probably be the beginning of 2014.

Don't know if this has been done on here before but this is from Le Blogotheque. Lots of great impromptu acoustic sets from great bands on here.

By the way, the new record is being produced by James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem fame.

Co-produced surely, Mr. D?  Impossible to believe Win and Regine would completely hand the reins over to Murphy, mate or no!  I could be wrong of course but that seems a wee bit unlike them.

Yeah, sorry I had just assumed that it was being co produced - forgot to add that in!

They played some of the new stuff at a secret gig a few months back, and apparently there was a mixture of dance, pop, punk, and rock.

I take it you'll be looking to go see them again when they eventually get round to touring?

Does Regine play unfeasibly large musical instruments?   :D

Oh yes - I will certainly be seeing them somewhere though imagine I will have to pass on coming back to Europe!  I assume they'll play Madison Square Garden again here in NYC.

Wonder if there are YT clips of those "secret gig" performances?

And would *love* it if they could convince Murphy to come tour with them!  They shared bills back in 2007 - this "split single" from around that time is also a "must have" for any fans of either band.

Sadly no. Those who were lucky enough to be there were checked for electrical devices before they were allowed in. In fact, someone tried to take a photo, only for their phone to get thrown against a wall!

Really interested to see where they go with this one. Funeral was obviously heavily influenced by family bereavements. Neon Bible was a much more ambitious and wider looking outlook on the World, whilst the Suburbs was reigned in and filled with tales of when they were kids and how things change.

Apparently some of the new songs are rooted in the 19th century re: the African American history in the US.

Release date of October 29th confirmed for AFIV (my title, not theirs :) ).  Mark your flippin' calendars!!!!!

God, that just made my weekend.  Btw, never saw it posted but Win & Regine became proud parents of a baby boy back in April.   ;D   Huge congrats to them of course but am selfishly concerned if that will have any impact on tour plans!

Saxophone? Check. Regine's soothing French lyrics? Check. James Murphy's paws all over? Check. Disco vibes? Check.

Oh... and a little bit of Bowie for good measure.
