Might sound strange......are you using a router? If so, wouldn't happen to be a D-Link router would it?

no mate ,i dont have a router. Its a speedtouch (thomson) modem only.
we have had the wiring redone in the house by a cowboy electrician.he done the extensions on the phone line throughout the house and i wonder if the connections are a bit duff.the box at the front of the house where the main line comes in had a frayed wire which come lose and it was cut out reconnected by 'sundance' the sparky and i wonder if he has proper connections there?..filters are a bit old on the individual phones throughout the house and it might have something to do with that also?...i dont understand all this stuf ,i just quote and regurgitate other peoples ideas.fucking technology heh.everything was alright when we had big tubes in the tellys wasnt it... :duh
success = the absence of the fear of failure

I'm on Virgin, and have been since the Cable & Wireless days. The TV service is shite, but the broadband is amazing. Especially if you use Usenet.

Until they have enough subscribers and then cripple it like all their other shitty offerings.

Been hearing this for years, and still they don't cap downloads. Don't see why they should, the network has far more capacity then they are offering at the moment.
Its been at least 5 years since I heard rumours of capping. I don't even get my connection throttled like others, and I download about 20gb a day (HD films etc......)

On the O2 Access package, as they haven't bothered to take advantage of LLU in my local exchange yet, and we've been getting some truly piss-poor streams since they introduced a new 'traffic management' system a month or so ago. Anyway, speeds have picked up slightly in the past week or so, but that didn't stop me reporting O2 to the ISPA. I've been offered three months free, or I can leave mid-contract with no penalty charge.

According to Sam Knows, BT are upgrading the line here in March. I've got some thinking to do.

Went for the free three months. That'll take me past the time when BT are supposedly upgrading the line here, and if that doesn't have a noticeable effect, I'll kick off big time I'll only have a few months more to endure before the contract runs out.

Can't do this speedtest.net thingy, but have screencap of my 100mb conn

DL speeds will go to 10MB/s though, it had few seeders.. :\

Gues it'd go to around 90-91Mb/s on that speedtest.net

you can't do speed test because that's a seedbot your using and not actually your connection :)
STFU and agree with me.

Perhaps your definition of capping is different to mine?

As soon as enough mugs sign up to the 50Mbit package, they will apply it to that.

As I said, I download 20gb odd a day (HD films etc....) and I an yet to suffer from their so called throttling etc... and thats during their so called peak hours. Scare mongering maybe? I hear it, but I dont see it.
Even if you had 50mb and they throttled you to 25% thats still alot more than you would get from ADSL line.
Happy days so far.

Might as well post it in here, but can anyone think of any reasons for a new router not working?

Got an old Belkin G series thing, want to replace the home hub, for obvious reasons, but I'm following the installation wizard, and it just doesn't want to connect to the internet. The laptops and other wireless peripherals are connecting to the Belkin alright, but I can't seem to get an internet connection.

ADSL or Cable?
If its the former you may need to enter your account credentials in the router setup somewhere. Usually the master email for your ISP and your password.

So, the 'traffic management' policy on O2 Access broadband is meant to throttle peer-to-peer and newsgroup activity during times when the network is congested. Ok, so I can only get download speeds of about 5kb/s during the afternoon and evening. But how the hell is 12.20am a congested time?! I'm currently trying to download a song from Usenet and getting a speed of 8kb/s. What a joke! I do so hate living on an uncabled bit of the street and in an area where no ISP has taken advantage of LLU.

All of a sudden had a bit of a boost to my download speed. Could previously only download at about 400-430 kbps, now looking at 700-800 kbps. Any suggestions why this would happen after 2 years with Sky (not that I'm complaining)?

Upgrade to your local exchange maybe. Sounds like you got a sweet connection now, about 8mbps which is good for ADSL.

Quick question saves me starting a new thread..Downloading something atm which says its downloading at 255kb-300kb..Tis a 200mb file and has taken around half an hour or maybe a bit more..It says say 4 minutes left to download yet around 5 minutes later i come back to find its either still 5 minutes left or around 4 minutes left?Anybody know what that could be?Like just now its sayed 48 seconds left and around a minute or 2 has passed and now its saying 34 seconds left?

The joys of broadband in southland, New Zealand. Nice and quick eh. Ah well, i can still watch games, that's all I care about ;D
And when you find yourself along the untrodden path
Remember me with a smile, a drink, a gesture or a laugh
And a toast for the man who loves every hour of every day
And a feast for the friends and faces met along way
