Don’t think they have any choice with the PPVs.

I don't know why it's so complicated. This is how you do it right:

Premier League LIVE: Hotstar VIP to stream all games in India

Hotstar VIP will LIVE stream the upcoming Premier League season in India.

With Premier League kicking off this week, football fans in India can revel as Hotstar VIP is set to LIVE-Stream all 380 matches of the season.

Every Premier League match will be available in Full HD on supported devices, with expert analysis pre-match, at half time and post-match. Viewers who missed the match can catch all highlights of the game at their convenience, the OTT platform has stated in a Press release.

Additionally, to enjoy the league with your squad, Hotstar VIP will soon roll out a social feed ‘WatchNBanter’ that promises to enhance the fan experience like never before.

Starting  August 10 (Saturday), fans can catch all the matches of Premier League on Hotstar VIP, available for a subscription of ₹365.

We've had this for 5 years now. That's 4 pounds for 380 games

Because the cost to buy the rights in India is a pittance compared to over here. Plus there is the added benefit of a billion+ bigger population to sell to.

Yeah but they can increase the cost accordingly, surely. Why not offer to stream all games for a set price instead of just half of them every week

Because they don’t own the rights to all games.

There is also a bigger market for Netflix content given its worldwide.

The PL should just setup their own streaming service and charge £7.99/month worldwide.  Netflix proves the model works.  Either they do it or im hoping Amazon does it and scoops up the Sly packages next time.

Don’t think one company is allowed to buy all the rights, and if they did they’d not be paying £3bn and then offering them all for £7.99 a month.

They’re also not allowed to show all games even if they did have all the rights.

£7.99/month * 100 million potential customers brings in TRIPLE what they make from Sly.  It's a no brainer. It's going to happen mark my words Craig.

Apparently Amazon were made up with how things went last week.  They have tons of cash on hand.  If Bezos OK's it then i can see Amazon trying to pull something off.  Even a revenue share type model.  The clubs could double  or triple what they make now.

Hmmmm.....wonder who might have said that broadcasters were going to rise prices for streaming?  ;)

By the time you add up all the various broadcasters and their subs, to watch every Liverpool match the price is going up and up.

Once again, Netflix benefits from appealing to all people, not just fans of PL football. It’s a much bigger market.

Plus Netflix pricing has been going up and up in the last few years and will likely continue.

To be honest I would happily pay 1 provider £25 a month just to watch Liverpool games only with no access to anything else.

I would definitely do this if it included all games in all competitions.

I'd only pay £25/month if it had all the CL, and all the PL games.

Never worth it while the PL rights are split between companies.

It is, but they aren’t going to throw over £5bn at it to get the entire rights for 3 seasons and then offer it as part of the £7.99 Prime package. Especially when they’ve seen that fans will pay silly money to get Sky and/or BT to watch a handful of games.

Apparently as I said they completely smashed signups and viewings/interest last week. They were very happy with the experiment.

Prime offers free delivery on orders. That's why I have Prime. I rarely watch anything on there as Netflix is better... So it  was a coincidence that I was already subscribed and I watched the derby on there.  It was very good.

My point is that Amazon could throw billions at it and use it to leverage other aspects of their business.  They have lots of cash on hand.  Don't underestimate them.

I think you’re over estimating them to be honest.

They aren’t spending £5bn on rights and then offering it at a massive loss. Amazon have never shown any inclination of doing something like that during their history.

Again, not saying they won’t make a play for the rights. Simply saying if they get them they won’t be offering it as part of Prime or for just £7.99 a month.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Amazon never made a profit for like the first 10-15 years of it's existence because they ploughed everything back in for long term investment. If they think it is worth the cost in the long term to get people signed up I could see them taking a hit for a good few years.

If they got all the football rights, amazon wouldn't just bundle those into prime, they'd probably flog it as one of those addon channels they have with maybe a game or two a week bundled in with prime to keep people subbed all year round.

It would be the biggest revolution in football since Sky came along in 1992 and it became the Premier League.

We MUST bug Amazon to do this.  Sky would be finished.

Amazon is not going to have the Premier League, League Cup, Fa Cup, Champions League ( Europa League as well), World Club Cup, European Championships, World Cup...etc.

No One broadcaster is going to buy the rights to every competition. That is a fantasy.

So you are back to multiple broadcasters who will show some matches on tv and then force you to buy their internet streaming package.

You'll end up with needing to buy 3-4-5 different streaming packages to see every Liverpool match. And they all won't be 7.99 per month.

Nobody is calling for them to get everything.  Just Sky's packages of 2-3 PL games/week will do (One Saturday game and 2 Sunday games). Then perhaps they can take the CL off BT in a few years time and stream the lot.  That would be awesome.

I pay AUD $15/month (living in Australia) for all PL, CL, Europa, major international tournaments.

That works out to be about £7.75 a month.

So from that perspective, that £25 a month seems outrageous.

Lmfao..

Match times vary from midnight to 4 in the morning in Australia more or less. I was there a few years ago and watch us v Arsenal at 2am.

This is not during "normal" hours in Britain.

So of course they charge less.
