Would it bother you if Rafa took the Everton job?
« on: December 9, 2019, 11:46:57 pm »
He was on Monday Night football last night and didn't  rule it out apparently. Says it wouldn't be a problem, he lives in the city and see's Everton fans all the time.

I have to admit I don't like the idea of him being Everton manager.

Not as much as it would bother him.

Rafa said" he can't take a job in England for a least 2 years"

The Everton job is up now.

He also said if they was no other job available he would consider it as he would want to work.Don't read too much into it.

Nothing wrong with what he was saying. Rafa is extremely good at increasing his value and worth as he's a top manager.

I wouldn't mind. He's a top bloke and if he does well with them, then fair play.

I don't think it would, actually. Maybe it's because we're doing so well. I was gutted when he took the Chelsea job, because if I've ever had a true hero in football it's Rafa.

I think if we were a bit shit and not doing an awful lot better than them it'd kill me inside.

Probably a little bit and you’d have to question his managerial choices really. Why go to a place where the fan base hates you and the owner probably isn’t going to back you a whole whack in the transfer market?

Would be utterly stupid from him?

It'll be odd but I don't think it will, I think Rafa would be happier managing near home. He'll be reviled there though, just look at the idiotic Xmas tree fiasco.

I'd have no problem with Rafa's choice, and would even want him to be successful, as long as they stay beneath us and extend their winless derby streak to a million.

The downside would be the inevitable fewming backlash when they don't beat the RS in every competition, and a good man is subjected to abuse and infant missiles.

At this point does he really still need to be close to home?  Aren't his kids about that age where they soon leave home anyway...

If it's just Montse soon,  it should be less of an issue,  the two of them could live anywhere.

As for the Everton question,  at this point I hope he gets the best option for himself anytime.  If it turns out to be Everton at some point,  so be it.

Yes cos the fucker would manage to win a Derby ;D

Its a tough one, the majority of their support are decent, such as the lad who made the half and half JFT96 banner after the court case, but far too many mongrels are low enough to be quite happy to sing murderers at us. Saw a video of them leaving Anfield last week giving it the Murderers chant loud and proud.

Well Everton would be the hard option, at least in terms of management.

That said it's easy money when they sack you so they're just as much the soft option.  ;D

Have to agree with this. I'd have been gutted pre-Klopp. Now I think he'd manage to get them promoted back into the premier league quickly.
I hated how they treated him at Chelsea but that sting has gone now.

By the way, he lives locally. No-one has mentioned Marine yet.

Absolutely not, though I've no experience of living in Liverpool and knowing what the rivalry is really like

He loves the city and our club, and I'm absolutely certain that he'd be as respectful towards us as an Everton manager can be. Though for many just taking the job would be seen as disrespectful I guess. It's a good size club for where he is in his career, but they get through their fair share of managers and he wouldn't be accepted by perhaps even the majority of their fans.

Maybe a bit pathetic to be so invested in one person in the game, but by and large I just want him to be happy, as long as he's not preventing us from winning. Even wanted Madrid to do well when he was there, which was a disgraceful state of affairs :P

He seemed adamant that he's not leaving China for another couple of years as it's the start of the project, and he's not the sort to walk out on a contract. But then again he didn't seem the sort to chase the money in China in the first place.

If he were to take the Everton job in the future, I won't begrudge him at all. At this stage, it's no exaggeration to state his career has gone downhill since he left Anfield because of some questionable career moves that have not worked out, which is an almighty shame.

It's nearly 10 years since he left us and he isn't going to be coming back, so he can do whatever he wants.

I actually think he would fail at Everton. Not just because every manager is likely to, but because the already rabid fan base would turn on him as soon as Tom Davies misplaced his first pass.
And if the rain stops, and everything's dry.. she would cry, just so I could drink tears from her eyes.

If he did, I wouldn't mind. What he did for this club, he deserves to have our respect wherever he goes.

Helps that with Everton while they are fun to laugh at, I generally feel no ill will towards them (they aren't significant enough to bother me, and plenty of my mates are fair minded blues, so I laugh at them, but there's about 4-5 clubs I dislike more)

It would be interesting to see opinion split between scouse/non scouse fans.

I personally would not be bothered because he has not got a prayer of bridging the gap. He would get dog's abuse from a section of Everton fans though, why do it to yourself when you can get £12m a year in a farmers league
