Where would that photo have been taken from as the stadium is now? I'm thinking by where they are going to build the hotel?

Lake Street was the last street before the ground I think as you walked up Back Rockfield Road or Walton Breck Road, think that photo will be from Back Rockfield Road looking at the Main Stand/Kop corner.

It's where the stage and that is now I think, are they putting a hotel there?

Think this is the same house in 2006:

Yes, I think that's pretty spot on.

I had reckoned the photo was probably taken just a few feet back from Streetview here and that newer photo of the house you found(good work!) seems to confirm the location.

15th May 1982 me and my mate were stood queuing from about 12 at almost the exact spot the picture was taken, waiting to get in to see the mighty reds beat Spurs and lift the title once again. The gates opened around 1pm and the queue starts to move. A load of lads in front of us were messing about a bit and one lad got pushed out of the queue by his mate, goes to get back in his place and this copper on a horse forces him out of the queue and tells him to get to the back of the queue, which is massive at this point. We're all shouting at this copper that the lad had been there since before 12 but the fucker was having none of it, the poor lad was nearly in tears.

Thanks for that, I wasn't far out in my estimation.

The top link is a great picture, albeit a bit sad that the houses, people and communities are no longer there.
First went to Anfield in the 88/89 season and the lad who I went with took me down a load of alleys and back streets from the King Harry and the ground just appeared round a corner, never forget it. Went to about half a dozen games a season until the 92/93 season then started to take my own football seriously and didn't go back until 2006/7 when I stared taking my eldest lad,  then a few years later the younger one aswell.

Hard to imagine how close the houses were to the ground now. Must have been a nightmare for the locals on matchday.

Apologies for my trip down memory lane ;D

That first pic of he corner shops of old swan brought back memories! My grandad and later my dad and his brother owned a new agents on that block of shops! They also had one on holt road. People who came in in the eighties were just total characters. Remember as a kid nicking the penny sweets whilst my dad and uncle would be making me fill the shelves 😂 great pic

My initial thought was the ones on Roscoe Street, Duke Street end. Then I thought maybe Back Percy St. just off Hope St., but checking on google streetview proved inconclusive. Could be anywhere really ;D

Great pics.

They've certainly brought back some memories though I don't remember it being quite so well lit as the pics seem to show, it always seemed a bit dingy.

From what I recall, the roof glass hadn't been cleaned in years.

I used Exchange a few times around then to go up to Southport on Bank Holidays and up to Bootle. It was grimy but Lime Street was even filthier, a by product of a century of steam I suppose.

...It was grimy but Lime Street was even filthier...

Not as bad as the old Central Station. I reckon if you fell over in there or around the entrance you wouldn't be injured, you'd just bounce. The ground seemed to be a sea of used chewing gum.

On Exchange, if I remember rightly, there was a section of the roof at the far end of one of the platforms that had no glass in. I think I was told by an old fella at the time that it had been blown out during the Blitz and had never been replaced. Since Beeching had planned to close the Southport line (and the Exchange-Manchester route which did eventually go) but only relented after protests, I suppose such uncertainty about its future might explain why it had a run down and generally unkempt air about the place.

Isn't that now a boutique hotel?! I stayed there once - top floor is called The Liverpool Suite - lots of signed memorabilia on the walls - am betting none of it was real ;D

Oh and The Bill Hicks Appreciation Society was the Security Guard when I was there too - small world eh.....?

Also did Elvis Costello off that list and many many more Royal Court shows through the 80's.
