Is there any reason why they are not sacking Moyes. Maybe waiting for end of the season to officially get relegated to pay him less? i will be shocked if they still keep him in charge for next season.

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

They can't really pull that comment back now, the image is preserved for ever. Hopefully someone can project that on to there new blue lego corner blocks at some point.

As for Sunderland, they, as Newcastle and Middlesbro do,go down to seek glory.

Not arsed one way or the other about Sunderland, but my god, it will be delicious seeing that bug-eyed gobshite Moyes getting relegated.

Ellis Short has wanted Moyes to manage them for years.  I'd assume that's why he hasn't been sacked.

Moyes has indicated he could leave at the end of the season. His press conference also had this gem:

Quote
But, being a football supporter, the manager is probably an easy target – that’s it. I’m the public front. Twelve months ago everyone was saying the best appointment was David Moyes. No one was saying it wasn’t. It has changed a bit in the last couple of weeks, maybe before that, because of the position we’re in but you keep going in these situations. You don’t enjoy it. But there’s only one place I want to be on Saturday and that’s somewhere around my technical area

Fuckin hell, if he resigns (and avoids being rewarded for being the worst performing of a long list of shite sunderland managers) then christmas has come early for sunderland fans and accountants alike. I think it will be difficult for anyone to take that job. Massively in debt, not much of a youth system and hardly anything of real value to sell. That said Silva at Hull has dispelled the myth that relegation was inevitable for Sunderland. Hull were below Sunderland when Silva took over. They sold two of their best players and could stay up, whereas Moyes has been making relegation seem an inevitability since day one. It wouldn't surprise me if Moyes will say he's leaving because the money won't be there next summer to rebuild the team. I also think following his stints with Man Utd, Real Sociedad and Sunderland, there will be a very limited market for his services

I don't know about that. It'd take an awful lot for mid to lower Premier League chairmen to view British manager who did a decent job at a mid level Premier League side as not having something to offer, despite his subsequent failings. At least, it's been that way in the past. Like you, I can see him leaving but I wouldn't be surprised if he's back in the Premier League next season, either in the summer or at some point before the end.

Someone will buy Kone, albeit not for anywhere near what Everton were apparently offering for him. Someone will sign Kirchhoff on a free I'd think.

So long and don't come back, pointless club. A turd that hasn't been flushed since they came up in 2007, they've spent more days in the bottom three than any other side during that ten year spell.

Good riddance and hopefully it's a while before they go back up.

Every season they are in the PL they play the most turgid rancid football from the days of Peter Reid's hoofball all the way to David Moyes dinosaur football, the football has been shit on a stick for about 15 years.
"Since its purchase by the sheikh of Abu Dhabi, Manchester City has managed to cheat its way into the top echelon of European football and create a global, immensely profitable football empire, ignoring rules along the way. The club's newfound glory is rooted in lies."

Ellis Short has released a statement. Interestingly, no mention of Moyes in it.

Quote

Following confirmation of the club’s relegation from the Premier League today, Sunderland AFC chairman Ellis Short said:

“Like any supporter, my initial reaction is one of sadness, disappointment, anger and frustration. After 10 consecutive seasons as a top-flight club, the second longest in our 138-year history, it is hard for everyone to take.

“It is an especially cruel blow for our supporters, who have shown tremendous faith in the club. They backed the team, home and away, in huge numbers throughout the season and it is fair to say this season they have once again been relentless in their support. I am truly sorry that we have not been able to retain our top-flight status for them.

“I acknowledge that during my ownership mistakes have been made, particularly in the area of player recruitment, and as a result we have found ourselves struggling to survive in recent seasons. We had massive disruption during the summer transfer window and an unprecedented number of injuries throughout the season. These are difficulties which we have been unable to overcome and we are paying the price for that now.

“We need to improve, both on and off the field, and despite the bitter disappointment of today there is a strong determination to do so throughout the club. There is significant work to be done over the summer and when the season is concluded, we intend to share our plans to move forward with our supporters”.
https://www.safc.com/news/club-news/2017/april/club-statement

The Guardian is suggesting Moyes could be a candidate for the Scotland job. His own post-match statements seem to suggest, he's probably going

Quote
“I don’t think today’s the right time to talk about my future. That’s a conversation for another day I need to wait and gather my thoughts,” said an unusually subdued and quietly spoken Moyes.

“I’ll sit down with Ellis and Martin in the next week or so and speak about it but I’m more concerned about the people who follow the club. My emotions are with the people in this area, they’re the ones I feel for.”

[...]

"I don’t think this is the time to offer them a reason why but they come here in their thousands week in week out and travel the country in their thousands as well. I’m so disappointed we couldn’t give them more. I know that cash isn’t always easy to come by in this part of the country, so I appreciate every penny they put into the club by watching the team. I hoped relegation would never come"

[...]

There’s no criticism of the players, of their effort or commitment, they played as well as they could,” said a manager disappointed by the degree of transfer market backing he received from Short. “But I’m experienced, I know what a Premier League squad looks like and I’ve felt right from the start we’ve been a little short of the quality we need.

“The problem’s been a collective thing from top to bottom here, I don’t think it’s down to any one person. It’s been a long hard season of not winning games and that drags everyone down. You don’t feel good about it but we’ll regroup, take a bit of time and see what to do.”

1 win since Christmas - and Moyes says he will make decision on future once this campaign is over... if the club had anything about them that decision would be taken out of his hands.

I appreciate the club is fucked financially anyway, are seriously lacking in key positions and quality overall, and that there are few saleable assets to help them rebuild in the Summer - but seems there's not much going on in the boardroom to be impressed about either.

At the moment it looks like they'd struggle in the Championship next season too
