....I assume the contract extension with him was pretty substantially reduced. Nice for him to see out the season but that’d be fairly horrific business sense if we had no plans to actually play him but kept him on the same wages.

Think I remember reading that he offered himself to take a pay cut for the remainder of the season.
Rafa Benitez: "I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager. Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."

Nice words from Klopp.  Can only wish Lallana the very best.

That's a shame, thought he might get some minutes on the south coast tonight. But also totally understandable.

It's one thing risking an injury (in a dead rubber ;D) ruining a transfer in normal times, but it's another when it's clearly the last reasonable contract in a career and the buying clubs finances and futures are as uncertain as they've been

I mentioned in another thread a few days ago that it was conspicuous that he had been kept on but wasn't being selected in the matchday squads... Klopp's explanation makes perfect sense to me - select the squad based on who is going to be with us next season, but keep Lallana on the books for an extra few weeks as emergency cover in case we pick up a few injuries - he would be very useful backup if it came to that. It's not like he has been kept on for sentimental reasons - if that were the case, we'd also have kept Clyne.

Makes sense from Lallana's point of view too - he won't be able to sign for another club until the end of this month anyway so there's nothing in it for him to leave before then.

Anyway, I wish him all the best wherever he lands up. He's been great for us, despite the injury problems.

Would be nice for him to get a five-minute farewell cameo appearance at least, but I can't see it happening - especially given the lack of crowds to actually say goodbye to.

Yeah was hoping the same, but that's a good point :P Was a bit surprised to see the article be so definitive he won't play again. Ah well guess we'll see him off at the end of the season when the players walk around and speak to the crowd. Oh wait..

He'll just have to enjoy the title celebrations I suppose ;D

For some reason, I never really warmed to him but he's played, in my opinion, a substantial part in our title win by scoring the equalizer at OT which kept our momentum going and kept us unbeaten.

Wish him the absolute best for his next step. He ended up winning quite a bit with us which I'm quite happy about.
Mark my words. Top 8 will be a massive struggle.
We won't make any big signings this season and we will go back to being a top4 club.

A fantastic player when he really got going, which was sadly not regularly enough (admittedly that is probably mostly the result of injuries.)

I still think he is in the Keita mould of everything good he does being hyped up more than it probably deserved to be. That said he was very good in the run in of that season when we qualified for the champions league for the first time.

Can only wish him the best when he does leave, although we’re not quite at that point yet.

I really love this about this squad. The 'bit part' players still contribute a great deal, and play a vital role when you sum it up over the season. Speaks highly of their self motivation and also the atmosphere Klopp creates.

Last season we had Moreno (Burnley), Sturridge (Chelsea), Clyne (United). Less of a bit part but Origi (Barcelona Spurs Everton) Shaqiri (United Newcastle Barcelona).

This year we have Lallana (United, Everton FA cup), Shaqiri (Everton), Lovren (City, Salzburg group decider, Everton) and Matip when he's been fit (Arsenal). And Adrian has had a couple of very good games and plenty decent, even though he ended up needing to play more than was hoped.

I think he's probably getting a fraction of what he was pre-lockdown. Maybe some sort of deal with a really low base salary, but goes up if he's needed for an actual game? Either way, works for both parties - he gets to be part of the title winning celebrations, which is richly deserved, and keep sharp ahead of his summer move. We get his experience for a few more months, have him helping keep standards high in training and hopefully passing on some useful tips to the kids.

Shame he won't get an Anfield ovation at the end of the season, but sounds like he's staying in the Premier League so I'm sure he'll be warmly received whenever Leicester come to town next season (if there's crowds allowed!)

A model professional in the Milner mould. Would have set a great example to the youngsters coming through during his time at the club. A former Southampton captain too, so a sound head on his shoulders I'd presume. Fantastic work rate, great engine, great pressing. Not quick enough for a front three position but had the engine for a box to box role. I think him coming on to replace Salah in the Madrid CL final said a lot about our lack of strength in depth pace wise which problem regrettably still continues.

Top players injuries took the chance he had of being a truly world class midfielder consistently but still one of the most talented players we’ve had at this club in recent years.

He definitely made a significant contribution this year, though he and we would have liked him to have been able to contribute more.

He will rightly leave the club as a deserving league winning player.

It's a shame we didn't sign him a couple of years earlier really.  I enjoyed watching him for us, but due to injuries we never got as much use out of him as we would have liked.  So much of his career with us has been robbed by injuries.  Such a shame.  Still. He has a few nice medals out of it and we have some brilliant memories of him as a player.

It's sad to see him go, but he's leaving a champion.

It's a shame that injuries have been such an issue for him over the last couple of seasons, but he's been someone I've really enjoyed watching at Liverpool and he was really excellent early on under Klopp. He's a great player with a lot to offer to his next club and hopefully at some point in the not-too-distant future he'll come back to Anfield as a visiting player and will be able get the reception he deserves from our supporters.

One of the few Rodgers' signings that I was 100% up for (along with Coutinho and Sturridge; I knew nothing about Firmino at the time). When I saw we were linked I mentally crossed everything.

He may well have thought he'd missed the boat, coming after the 13/14 season; maybe feared that the club had peaked before he joined, but patience and hard work has been its own reward and he leaves a multiple trophy winner. I wish he was staying, and I wish some fans wouldn't discuss his leaving with such glee.

Sad to see him go and he will be badly missed. He's Hendo's best mate at the club and it won't be the same without him.

He was great signing but has been unlucky with injuries.

Two moments that stand out for me...The Norwich away goal and this season at Utd away. Make no mistake about that goal was vital against UTD.

Hopefully when we are all allowed back in the ground we will give him a good welcome back and when hes on the bus tour if Rodgers allows him then I am sure we will let him know how much we appreciated him.

I have some wonderful memories of Adam, but the outstanding one was the sight of him coming off the field, collapsing into Klopp's arms, absolutely spent. I thought then that he was doing his utmost to make Klopp's vision become reality. As well as the effort, he brought some great skills, and the combination made for some thrilling moments. Thanks for those inspiring memories, Adam, and good luck with your next gig.

I always say that he's still one of the most technically talented players in the team. It's really sad about his injury record because he's the kind of player that Klopp absolutely loves. He's so selfless and he'll run for days.

I thought he was our best player during the 2016/17 season when we first qualified for the champions league under Klopp and I think he would have continued to be a very important player. I imagine that he's been an important senior member of the squad as well even though he hasn't played.

I don't know where he'll go obviously but I'd guess that most premier league sides would be glad to take him and he'd do well.
if I came home to allison in bed with my wife I'd ask him to phone Virgil to see if he wanted to pop round too.

Just not happened for him the last 2-3 years due to various injuries which is a real shame. Still made some important contributions when getting a chance, such as the goal at OT this season. Hope he’s able to stay fit and play first team for wherever he ends up, although maybe just have off games v us

When I first saw him at Soton, I was convinced he'd fit us perfectly. And injuries aside, he did, it's just a shame that he's  been robbed of his best years because of that.

One of my favourite Liverpool players and seems to be one of Klopp’s favourites. A workhorse with class. So happy that he leaves with medals.
Blimey! I agree that Lallana is great, but ''workhorse'' is not a term I'd use for his technically proficient and cultured style of play. Not even his mad pressing engine qualifies him as a workhorse.

I remember Klopp calling him the "Hunter" and I absolutely loved that nickname! He's a footballer with gorgeous technique, truly two-footed (which is a rarity in the game), and a tremendously smart footballing brain. He was perfectly suited for how Klopp wants to play football. It's just a shame that injuries robbed him off playing time but he's leaving as the league champion, the European champion, and the world champion. Not a bad haul, eh?

I reckon his efforts are that of a workhorse. But he’s got the class of a thoroughbred. It’s a unique combination.

One of the most likeable players we’ve ever had. I always got the feeling he bought into Klopp’s mindset from day one and that Klopp reserved huge respect for him because of that. They seem to have a great relationship.

Always loved watching Lallana, on his day he had such a unique style. He was robbed of many such days by injury, but he goes out having won the biggest two trophies around.

I get what you're saying but I don't think ''workhorse'' is the word. Round our way it's a borderline pejorative term, not one you'd use to celebrate a person/player, but rather to mildly put them down. Not as bad as ''water-carrier'' but not positive either.

To me it means someone who always works hard and gives maximum effort.

I think there was no chance of him playing and he was only on the bench v chelsea so that he could get involved in the photos with his kit on. Nice touch by Klopp

Makes sense to me.

Had it been a packed Anfield then Klopp may have tried to get him on for a few minutes.  Making a farewell two minute cameo in an empty stadium was never likely.

Love this image. Laying the foundations for what was to come.

Will be missed for sure.

It is indeed. Subbed off after 60 minutes of nonstop pressing and setting the tone for Jürgenball.

Yep, you can tell by the way Klopp (and Henderson) talk about him, how important he has been off the pitch and the standards he sets these last few years even if he's not played all much. Clubs, particularly someone like Leicester who are aspiring to be in the Champions League, should be looking at that kind thing strongly. I'm sure they are, what with Rodgers being in charge.

All the best to him, hope he does end up at a Champions League club, he's that good.
We have to change from doubter to believer. Now.

Lallana: I've changed my mind, I don't want to go. How can I leave this club and all of you wonderful, amazing people?

That's probably how I'd be anyway.

Today was his last day at Melwood and he's done a really good farewell interview.

What would you say to the fans?

Thank you so much for accepting me, especially in my first year when we all had quite difficult moments - the players, fans - but I really did feel straight away that the type of player I was – and am - they warmed to me. I always feel that if you show a good attitude and you work hard, they will always give you time and after the first tough season it felt like I improved the more I settled. When Jürgen came in we had a couple of great seasons to get us back to the Champions League. They’ve obviously stayed patient with me through my injuries and although I wish I could of on a personal note maybe contributed a little bit more, the end goal was always to come here to win medals and be part of a special group. That’s what we’ve done and we’ve achieved that together. It’s going to be unfortunate I won’t get a chance to properly say goodbye but I’m pretty sure I’ll be back at Anfield and hunting for three points against them, but I’m sure they’ll give me a nice welcome and it’ll be nice to say goodbye properly and I’m sure that will happen next season at some point.

It's impossible to articulate just how highly thought of Adam Lallana is by his Liverpool teammates, everyone at Melwood and staff right across the club.

On and off the pitch, he has been integral to everything this team has achieved.

He will be massively missed.

All the best Adam. He was a player who was possibly out of time in the modern game, but would have been wonderful in the 80s and 90s when there wasn't the emphasis on speed and pressing, and his beautiful touch and ball-playing ability would have been more appreciated.

Still, he left us with memories of that vital goal at Old Trafford, a gloriously mad winner at Norwich, and a bunch of medals.

He still owes the boss a new pair of glasses though 😂
