I thought Ron Paul could have been a great presidential candidate for the Republicans in 2008 and 2012. He'd certainly have given Obama a stiffer fight than Romney in 2012, where Obama handed Romney his ass in the debates. He's just too sane for the Fox News nuts. Probably the only Republican candidate worthy of being president in a long while. Is Rand Paul similar to his dad?

Even though I don´t agree with all of his domestic policies, I think Ron Pauls foreign policy and the way he attacked Pentagon/CIA/NSA, Wall Street, crony capitalism and the federal reserve would have been a real "change" that the World and America needed, they were seriously scared of him, you could see that in the debates and in the media (especially the idiots at Fox both also the more left liberal media who sadly supports the same kind of foreign intervention and endless war policy like the neoconservatives).

Ron Paul was probably the most courages and smartest presidential candidate for decades, Obama had the same potential, but when he started to taking huge donation from Wall Street and the military industrial complex and choosing the same financial and hawkish security advisors as Bush there was never going to be a proper change. Hopefully he can make some changes during the last term, I think the Iran Deal was one of the best things he has done actually as a president, something he wouldn´t dared in his first term.

It’s funny because Ron Paul had the biggest grassroots support of them all, he got more donations from serving Soldiers then all the other candidates COMBAINED (republican and democrats), and still people like John Mccain, Romney etc accused him of being unpatriotic and anti-military.

Still think his son is the most reasonable republican out there, but it ain´t hard to be, he don´t have the same aura and courage as his father but I rather have him then Bush, Trump etc. His domestic policies could be weird but there wouldn´t be any more catastrophic endless war like in Iraq, Libya etc and NSA surveillance that effect the rest of the World as well, that’s why I like him.

Bernie Sanders vs Rand Paul would be my ideal choice from the two parties.

PFTcommenter is one of the best Twitter accounts to follow because of how many people don't realize he gets paid to troll. Like last night. See the shirt he was wearing last night. Even tricked a poor BBC reporter into interviewing him because she thought he was being serious. Can't wait for that wonderful piece of British journalism to pop up.  ;D

Trying to decide if you got that off a chain email from grandma or an annoying Facebook post someone shared, considering that quote is three years old and about a candidate not even running in this election.

What?

Matt Taibbi writes about the GOP race in this week's Rolling Stone.

Long, but entertaining. This was my favourite bit:

Quote
At the event, (Mike Huckabee) was glowingly introduced by Iowa Republican Congressman Steve King, who revved the crowd by bashing the Supreme Court ruling clearing the way for gay marriage. King had apparently been told on good authority by a lawyer friend that Obergefell v. Hodges meant that only one party in a marriage had to be a human being. "What that means," he said, "is you can now marry my lawn mower."

A reporter next to me leaned over. "King's lawn mower is gay?"

Is there a danger that Trump could run as an independent?  I know he's said in the past that he could.  That would split the republican vote a bit.

HANNITY: You talked about Mexico. How quickly could you build the wall? How do you make them pay for the wall, as you said?

TRUMP: So easy. Will a politician be able to do it? Absolutely not....

HANNITY: Is it a tariff?

TRUMP: In China — listen to this. In China, the great China wall — I mean, you want to talk about a wall, that's a serious wall, OK....

HANNITY: Sure.

TRUMP: So let's say you're talking about 1,000 miles versus 13,000. And then they say you can't do it. It's peanuts. It's peanuts....

HANNITY: So through a tariff?

TRUMP: We're not paying for it. Of course.

HANNITY: You want to do business, you're going to help us with this.

TRUMP: Do you know how easy that is? They'll probably just give us the money....And I'm saying, that's like 100 percent. That's not like 98 percent. Sean, it's 100 percent they're going to pay. And if they don't pay, we'll charge them a little tariff. It'll be paid.

Makes Hannity sound like a scholar.

During the presidential campaign of 1928, a circular published by the Republican Party claimed that if Herbert Hoover won there would be “a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage.”

Despite a landslide victory, the Republican Party's promise of prosperity was derailed seven months after Hoover took the oath of office. The stock market crash of 1929 plunged the country into the Great Depression.

Trump yesterday: “When it comes to policy, I’m going to give you wonderful policy positions.”

His platform?  "Trust me!"

He is creating a very entertaining sideshow, but does anyone actually think he'll end up on a ballot? No way does he get the Republican nomination. And talk o fhim running as an Independent, I can't see it. It would basically gift the election to the Dems.

I don't think he cares too much about that. He is not entrenched in any ideology and has funded democrats in the past. He is a just a moron that wants attention and running as a independent and spoiling the party will give him that attention.

The courts, the rich, the powerful or those in authority never lie. It has been dealt with 'by the courts' nothing to see here run along.

I'd love to see a poll for how long people reckon Trump will stay in the game.

I suspect he's here to stay until at least New Hampshire and Iowa. There he'll place a distant 4th or 5th in both and then quickly be out of the picture.

Ok it was 5am bored and flicking the channels.

and watched a bit of a Fox interview with Trump.

Just as he said when he was a kid he could hear his dad negotiating with the plumber over the phone and  thats why he knows the nuke deal with Iran is a bad deal.

And the interviewing just nodded in agreement.

WTF

Don't blame me I voted for Jeremy Corbyn!!

Miss you Tracy more and more every day xxx

This is an interesting read with some facts from past elections.

Cheers for that.

Good ol' Nate Silver. You can always (or at least often) rely on him to cut through the media noise to provide some reasoned analysis.
