Lau Nau - Land Without God OST

https://soundcloud.com/fonal/lau-nau-the-saints

Quote
Land Without God is a soundtrack by Lau Nau to a documentary film by the same name directed by Mannix Flynn, Lotta Petronella and Maedhbh Mc Mahon. It is an intimate portrait of a family coming to terms with decades of institutional abuse and the impact that it has had, and still has, on their lives.

The film follows artist Gerard Mannix Flynn and his family who, for the first time, discuss and reveal the trauma of being separated during childhood, being forcibly incarcerated in children’s home and industrial institution and the long-lasting effect of abuse that they and generations of Irish people suffered at the hands of the Irish State and Catholic Church.

Laura’s approach to film music is minimalistic: ”I try to let the music to breathe in unison with the images and give the viewer time and the means to immerse into the film without manipulation.”

“In a significant role on the album is the bowed lyre played by Pekko Käppi. I am processing the acoustic sounds through a modular synthesizer and a reel to reel recorder, playing the piano and synthesizers, singing the vocal parts with Tuija Kuoppamäki. The Irish concertinas are played by Cormac Begley”.

Lau Nau aka. Laura Naukkarinen has released five albums to date. Her previous album Poseidon was a critically acclaimed Emma nominee and Femma award winner.

Lau Nau: Land Without God will be released on Spotify and other digital platforms on October 4th, 2019.

One of the great 'go to' records that from 2019. Admiteddly an aquirred taste, but bizarrely, when USA Mexico came out they sounded far too much but right now they sound almost pastoral. That track particularly. The following track on side B is ridiculously long that only the most courageous of us will find.

edit: Hadn't heard it for an age but have two itunes LP's.. Dawson 20/20 and Matamoros. Dawson 20/20 bleeds into Matamoros and obviously you get shaken out and dumped somewhere and you immediately reach for the stop button... but then one night I didn't and ended up in heaven.

edit2: thought's on Dawson 2020?

From the best 10" of the 90's (that's not a quote from some girls I knew back then but just a simple statement of fact):

Thinking Fellers Union Local 282: Father (from Admonishing the Bishops EP 1993) . This time with a great fan video.

Pub Quiz dream: Which song on TFUL282's Admonishing the Bishops EP the best one?.. Was it..

1.   Hurricane
2.   Undertaker
3.   Million Dollars
 or 4.   Father?

Rob will know this!!

 Erm?  :-\

edit2: thought's on Dawson 2020?

It's fantastic. Even found Mrs Venton humming the Civil Servant song the other morning which is a rare event. It's rare to find a talent like that where he can get to the nub of things, hold a cracking tune and not sound worthy. I saw him a couple of years ago at ATP and thought he was great but this is even more fun.

Xiu Xiu - Plays the Music of Twin Peaks

https://xiuxiu.bandcamp.com/album/plays-the-music-of-twin-peaks

Quote
Australia’s Gallery of Modern Art commissioned Xiu Xiu to reinterpret the music from Twin Peaks for their David Lynch: Between Two Worlds exhibition. Since then, the band has performed select concerts all over the globe culminating in a proper studio album of the compositions.

"It’s difficult to overstate the cultural impact of Twin Peaks 25 years ago. Transferring his art-house cinema ethic to the small screen, David Lynch’s cerebral, surrealist murder mystery series towered like a desert skyscraper over the wastelands of mainstream US TV drama.

A large part of the series’ appeal lay in the hypnotic, spectral soundtrack that won a Grammy for its composer, Angelo Badalamenti. Invited earlier this year to reinterpret that music for a Lynch retrospective at the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, Californian avant-noise trio Xiu Xiu have now taking their work on a world tour." - The Guardian

released August 19, 2016

Was that the last one ever? Massive shame that went downhil although it was clearly very badly run. I think that put the mockers on other festivals trying to go the same way as well - Safe As Milk got pulled  after because no-one really wanted to commit the cost when it could just go tits up with days to go, as was Drive Like Jehu.

He'll go down as a hero of sorts. Fella pulled together so many good line ups. Yes, there were many issues... but his heart was in the right place. Went out on a high. We all miss ATP.
