Let's all pile in after hearing one side of what went on. The side of the people who are after something, I'll add.

The PL have apparently seen all the information and made the decision they did. I'm unsure how any of us, who haven't seen shit, can then say we've been lucky or got off lightly.

I honestly can't get my head around exactly what went on. We've clear done something wrong, and it's likely a stupid error we shouldn't have made, but that's about as much as we know to be honest.

It's was pretty amateur to not check for recording devices. That's the basics.

That presupposes that you know you were doing something wrong.

What I can't understand if the kid is so good why Stoke haven't had him back or maybe they have their doubts about the whole package.

Whatever happened shows us up for dodgy or incompetent.

Think there might be a case that now that he has left Stoke if he were to return it would have to be under the new guidelines that they'd have to provide private education for all of their youth players.

They might not want to and just be happy to take the compo from the FA and Liverpool and leave the kid without a club.
Why do people quote other people for the sigs?  What' the point?

Or it shows up only the individuals directly involved for dodgy and/or incompetant.

I'd like the Club to say who and what punishment is given, I hope they don't keep it hidden from the fans.

when you make 50m from sterling. 15m for ibe. its probably worth the risk of tapping up a few young players.

Eh, we deserve it, thankfully the punishment is relatively mild.

Pretty much this. All clubs will be at this kind of shite. Just happens that Liverpool are the ones that got caught first.

I think we can take 'alleged' out of the title and replace the words 'under investigation' with 'receive ban'.

Fair play to people trying to play this down, but this was a massive fuck up. A lot of clubs have dodgy deals going on, for most of those clubs the people running it are usually smart enough not to get caught though.

Painful to read that, beyond amateur and the book was rightfully thrown at us.

Take the ban, move on.  Lucky it wasn't worse.

It's not likely but certainly. And serious enough to warrant a transfer ban.

Lets be honest.  If you're not cheating you're not trying.

And spare me the "everyone does it nobody gets caught except if you're incompetent".   Barca and Real have both had bans .... it's just part of modern football.

Cynical but truth.

Always the same with us. It's not the wrongdoing it's the sheer incompetence. Such a terribly run football club still in too many ways.

For the millionth time under FSG someone needs to lose their job for this. It's one shambles after another with these clowns.

In the end, who cares. We did something that every club does, which frankly I don't think is in a ethical grey area anyway, and got caught. We got slapped with a trivial ban. Just be more careful next time.

Exactly, some of the responses in this thread aren't just hyperbolic, they're embarrassing. I know some of our fans just love to whinge about the smallest of things, but the punishment we got is actually very light. The fine is nothing for a club like ours, whilst the one year ban can easily be gotten around.

Manchester City have been banned from signing academy players for two years and fined £300,000 after breaching Premier League transfer rules.

Part of the ban - from 30 June 2018 - will only come into effect if the club reoffends in the next three years.

City were found to have approached the family of two young players who were registered with other clubs.

The ban applies to 10 to 18-year-olds registered with a Premier League or EFL club in the previous 18 months.

It follows a similar sanction for Liverpool, who in April were punished over a separate illegal approach.

Liverpool's punishment related to their approach to a 12-year-old academy player at Stoke City in September last year.

It was reported in April that the Premier League was examining three signings by Manchester City's academy, including an 11-year-old Everton midfielder and a 15-year-old from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In each case, the academy player was conditionally registered with City while the Premier League's investigation was ongoing.

As a result of the club's breaches, the players' registrations will be terminated, with no compensation rights retained by the club.

Premier League rules ban inducements from clubs to encourage a move.

City have declined to comment on the matter. It is understood they have promised to continue to pay the school fees of the children concerned throughout their education at comparable schools to the ones they would have gone to if they had stayed at the club.

They have also agreed to pay the relevant compensation for the players, which means they are free agents and can join any other club without it going to tribunal.

I like how the richer club got hit with a bigger fine, looks like the punishments are fair and taking into account the finances of each club.

Let's see if the newspapers go to work with City the way they did for us.
