Just finished watchin jack dee on the tele and finidin it hard to stop myself smilin (from the jokes)

it got me wonderig however, who is the greatest stand up of all time?

Ive seen a lot of good ones and to be honest, i think the best ones are the americans but thats probably cos they have so damn many.

from all the stand up that ive seen, i would have to say that eddie murphy - raw and delerious have to be the 2 funniest stand up shows that ive ever seen

Eddie Murphy   - Delirious (more than Raw.)

Gay Mr T    -   "Hey boy, you look mighty cute in them jeans"
Johnny Sack: 200 grand for insulting my wife. What's next, Carmine, he gets to fuck her for a million?

Carmine: He wants to fuck her?

LOL i saw it over a year and a half ago and somehow it still dominates conversations between me and my mates whenever we tell a joke

too many jokes to mention in that hour and a half. that whole sketch of his dad being drunk at the family cookout with the "goony goo goo" bigfoot aunt is absolutley hilarious, i could watch it all day and it wouldnt get old

Are we allowed comedians who aren't necessarily 'stand-up comics' in the older, truer sense of the word, or can we include 'performing comedy artistes' who may use music or other means?

No, Richard Stilgoe is not permitted.

errr, i was thinkin stand up comics, "comedy artistes" have a different quality i think, they are more like funny actors rather than funny people i reckon

havent really got a favourite to be honest, i enjoy watching most stand up shows, though ive gone off watching some of the older comics like chubby brown and prefer the new breed.

some really good american and canadian comics on shows like Live at Jongleurs, Comedy Store and The World Stands Up on Paramount 2

bill bailey incorporates the songs into his stand up though

he uses his music to make the jokes funnier, or thats how i see it at least (still a great modern british comedian)

For all the contreversy and media / royalty courting, Billy Connolly up until the early 90's, was, by a mile, the funniest stand up comedian.

Tommy Tiernan ( best Irish anyway ! )
Peter Kay
Eddie Izzard ( though his show in Dublin wasn't Great )
Bill Bailey

in no particular order !

Is this really worth arguing about? Bill hands down, although if he were alive he'd disagree and say Richard Prior probably.

best currant living comedian, another Bill. Bill Bailey. although having seen Steven Wright live he runs him a close second.

The original incarnation of Emo Phillips was mad funny too, fat twat with blonde spiked hair now and it's very detrimental to his act.

The first time I saw Eddie Izzard in the mid nineties was the best stand up gig I've seen.
Well, I don't know what it is, but there's definitely something going on upstairs

I had a tape years ago and it was absolute quality.

The one that contains the routine slating REM's Michael Stipe and Shiny happy people.

Any ideas what the tape is called as it was over 10 years ago when i had it?
