Hillsborough trial collapses
« on: May 26, 2021, 11:08:18 am »
What next?

https://www.rhyljournal.co.uk/news/national/19329252.hillsborough-disaster-trial-collapses-judge-rules-no-case-answer/?ref=twtrec

The trial had heard statements were amended to remove criticism of the force.

But expert witness Sir Robert Francis QC told the jury there was no legal duty of candour for police at a public inquiry.

Legally speaking no one is on trial any more. The CPS will not appeal todays decision.

Duckenfield was acquitted. From a criminal perspective, every avenue has now been exhausted.

There could now be civil claims but this is highly unlikely.

96 people were found to be unlawfully killed to a criminal standard.

As of today, only Sheffield Wednesday club secretary Graham Mackrell was convicted of failing to ensure the health and safety of fans arriving at the ground on the day of the disaster. He was fined £6,500 and ordered to pay £5,000 costs.

1 person held accountable, if you can even call it that.

What an absurd, broken system to come to that outcome

Jonathan Goldberg QC was just on Radio 5 and it made me extremely angry.  Blaming Andy Burnham for calling for the enquiry, stating that the statements had been altered not to protect the police but to protect the fans.  Staggering.

Adrian Chiles was weak as piss in his questioning.

Was just going to say this.

Its clear there is no legal threshold on any of this, its a decision made to no presecute anyone.

We live in a legal system based on precedent, this gives a greenlight to never have to tell the truth in future inquiries

A public inquiry before a High Court judge, with no legal obligation to tell the truth.

Let's see that being applied to the general public rather than the establishment.  I won't hold my breath.

You see this type of comment under any article on Hillsborough you read. Shocking ignorance or just downright blinkered views from people who don’t want to accept the truth.

This decision stinks and I feel for the families and survivors.

At least the HIP findings and the new inquest have brought to light what actually happened, but it seems, only to those who want to see it. To get no criminal justice for countless criminal acts is a disgrace.

I heard this as well. He made disgusting comments and allegations accusing Liverpool fans of rioting outside the stadium which led to innocent people passing away.  How he can he be allowed to get away with comments such as that.

Yeah - for some reason though, it felt even more sickening when it came from someone who in the same breath was banging on about facts and evidence.

One thing to note - in their crowing about how there's no legal requirement to tell the truth to an Inquest, by definition they are admitting that their clients not only lied but they were entitled to.

Let the public make up their own minds on that point.......

But expert witness Sir Robert Francis QC told the jury there was no legal duty of candour for police at a public inquiry.

So we can discount anything said at future public enquiries as we won’t know the difference between who is lying and who isn’t.

The findings of future public enquiries will be difficult to assess not to mention write up.
We are definitely believers and we’ve won the fucking lot!

I certainly didn't.

On a personal note I was 27 years old when Hillsborough happened. My whole life ahead of me.  I am now 60 and have had my life totally consumed by Hillsborough.

I just keep wondering, what would my life have been without this consuming me?
