What's in a Number?

From Keegan to Suarez the number 7 shirt has had some Legends, some memorable and some forgettable players, right now the Number is Free but what type of player would fill it next.

Growing up the number 7 shirt for me was always Kenny's and nobody else was worthy of it. But over the years it has been given away far to easily.

Then take the Number 9,

Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler, Nicolas Anelka, El Hadji Diouf, Djibril Cissé, Fernando Torres, Andy Carroll, Iago Aspas, Rickie Lambert. Again some should not of having it.

Who were 7 & 9 before Kenny and Rushie and are these our 2 most iconic shirts?

Some names with numbers in here, not going back very far mind.

Ian Callaghan wore the number 7 shirt as did Brian Hall and Phil Boersma. I think even Ian Rush wore it (once) and Steve Highway also wore it but he wore number 9 much more.

Alum Evans, Steve Heighway, Albert Stubbins, Ian St John, Roger Hunt and Billy Liddell all wore number 9 but they wore whatever shirt was relevant to the position they played in. Liddell wore many different numbers. Oh and David Johnson also wore number 9.
