I've not read the whole thread so apologies if it's already been said, but isn't it good to watch the snooker without the inane ramblings and unwarranted shouting of John fucking Virgo?

I'm in the minority here, but nah I'm not enjoying it as much. The people I got used to hearing all the time are unable to be on, moving on or dying and it's not the same without them. Virgo, Clive Everton (a few years ago granted) and Willie Thorne are snooker to me, I've never watched it without them commentating. Alan McManus is good, but the ones that are there to replace Virgo and Thorne are simply not the same and never will be.

Don't fret, Virgo will be back (unfortunately) he's just stuck in Spain because of the virus.

I like the commentators who give you those subtle but crucial little nuggets of insight into the way a break might progress or how the cue ball needs to be hit, etc. John Parrot and Stephen Hendry seem particularly good at explaining stuff for us non-snooker players. They keep it technical but explain it clearly without dumbing it down. Virgo tends to look for the drama, even when it’s not there and sometimes can be a bit cringey and shouty as a result. Willie Thorne is a sad loss and was very soothing to listen to. Part of why I watch snooker is to end up in that trance like state as the balls roll in one after the other. It’s very relaxing at the end of a busy day. Clive Everton was the ultimate in creating that mood.

Was Rob Walker commentating last night or did I imagine it? I was flicking through the channels and thought I heard him on the Maflin game.

I too prefer the older guys commentating, although Willie did used to annoy me a bit when he'd say something like, " I think hes 6-4 to get that pink."
Originally I thought they had told the older guys not to come in due to their age and risk but then I heard Dennis Taylor on it.

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Sorry if it’s been mentioned already but just found out why the crown logo is on the players waistcoats. Why isn’t Ronnie O’Sullivan wearing one as I thought he has previously won all three?

Robertson v Selby could be fucking boring. Robertson tends to play a similar style to whoever he's up against, can score as well as anybody if he's playing the right player but has absolutely no qualms of getting bogged down in safeties.

I did, I’m glad he went through. First round was slow and pretty poor quality. This game has been excellent quality and had a mix of everything.

Robertson and Hawkins have to go off because Robertson spills a drink down his leg and in to his shoe :lmao

Now Hawkins accidentally sits in Robertsons chair so they stop the match whilst the ref sanitises the chair. More entertaining than the snooker

You don't mess with big Jan Verhaas.

Clarke does have the look of a guy that's walked into a pool hall after a day on the building site.

The one Clarke won to make it 7-2 I think, I missed it live but they showed it during a break in Ronnies match. McGill accused Clarke of 'standing in his eye line' they where face to face over it, Ref dealt with it well. But I think it continued after Clarke won that frame.

McGill vs Clarke incident was down to Clarke standing standing in line of sight when McGill was taking a shot.

John Parrott said on BBC Two: "I have not seen many [scenes] like that, it is quite heated.

"It is a very small and tight venue when there are two tables and you can get trapped. If you have played your shot and cannot get back to your seat, then as a courtesy you will stay at the other end of the table and hopefully be out of the way.

"If it is continually happening and Anthony feels he is in his eye line then he is perfectly entitled to say something. It does not help being 7-2 down so is not in the best of moods."

The crowd noise being pumped into the arena is a bit stupid. I can understand if it was pumped into the audio on TV.
