UEFA Cup draw. Celtic v Blackburn
« on: October 8, 2002, 12:24:07 pm »
Scottish champions Celtic have been drawn against Blackburn Rovers in the second round of the Uefa Cup.
The first leg will be played at Celtic Park on 31 October with the return at Ewood Park on 14 November.

Celtic cruised through to the second round by beating FK Suduva of Lithuania 10-1 on agrregate.

Blackburn, who qualified for the competition by winning last season's Worthington Cup, beat CSKA Sofia on away goals in the first round.

The all-British tie means a return to Ewood Park for Celtic striker Chris Sutton, who played for Blackburn from 1994 to 1999.

Elsewhere, in-form Fulham have been pitted against Dynamo Zagreb of Croatia.

First Division Ipswich Town take on Slovan Liberec of the Czech Republic.

And Leeds United face Hapoel Tel-Aviv, who dumped Chelsea out of the Uefa Cup last season.

I'm sure there'll be a warm reception for Souness at Celtic... and I can see him relishing the whole thing, home and away.

I can see a lot of Liverpool fans wanting old friends Celtic to win this one... but plenty of my sympathies lie with Blackburn, David Thompson / English team I guess.
Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple - Bill Shankly.
