They're frantically trying to slow the spread down so that it can peak in the warmer months when the hospitals are supposedly under less pressure than Oct-Apr.  Obviously no one can tell, but they expect a peak in this country in May.  If this happens then I can't see how they'll allow 1 million people to congregate for a bus parade in Liverpool :(

Obviously a lot of ifs at the minute, but if these major lock downs and restrictions in other countries work to slow the virus spread down, then I don't think it'll be too long until we see similar things happen here.

Say we win it at Goodison or home to Palace, yes we are officially champions but if they start cancelling games, even ones played behind closed doors and the whole season doesn't get played out, will that mean the whole season gets written off? Can't see how it wouldn't? You can't make up this shit can you, 30 fucking years we've waited and by a couple of months it might, at best, come to no fans being in the ground to see us win it, or at worst us not being able to win it at all.

Because going to the match puts you in close proximity with a lot of people. Whether it's before the game, walking through the streets, having a pint beforehand, being in the ground, going to the bog, being in your seat, standing waiting to get out among the crowd while it's dispersing. That fella sat behind you singing all game? You're within about two feet of his mouth. Every surface you touch when you're there could have potentially be touched by a lot of people before and after you.
A lot of what you described could be attributed to every day life and not just going to the match though.

There’s over three million people using public transport in London each day. Thousands of planes coming in and out of the country each day too, while people are also going about their business shopping, going to work and going the pub.

While I fear the inevitable whether we like it or not, is playing football behind closed doors really going to cut it when all the above is still going on?

With this virus everyone thinks ‘their’ country will be sound. Which has no real logic.
And everyone can’t see big impacts or big changes coming. People cannot look forward on it correctly.
Yet if you look backwards-every previous day and week was miles better than the current situation.

It’s throwing up odd things as well...

Playing without a crowd you lose home advantage. Some teams will potentially be impacted for their home games.
I read about a manager or player on the side getting carded in an Italian game for swearing at the ref. Refs will be able to hear everything the players say!

Well not yet it hasn’t. Because it won’t for a while yet due to how it works. If they stop movement on day 1, you won’t see changes until day 14.

I get the logic but I'm not sure it would help. People would just congregate outside the ground and in pubs which is apparently worse. Maybe the solution is more along the lines of making some changes for the games like cancelling the food and drink service and getting those sanitiser pump bottles all over the ground, I figure that way there is still some level of control.

I felt there was a certain 'raised awareness' so to speak at the game on Saturday. Actual queues to wash your hands, people seemed more chilled and less bunched up when coming in and leaving.

They will need to have very very good reason to stop people earning a living and paying their bills.

Like I said, we are nowhere near panic station levels yet.

Only hope its over by then...But fully expecting it not to happen.

Imagine the CL/FA cup final being played behind closed doors, going to be madness.

A lottttt of people have risked that Newcastle weekend to book accommodation (whether for just a three day bender or in case the parade was on the Monday). Money potentially wasted.

We're faced with the genuine prospect of watching Liverpool win the league in an empty stadium and being able to hear in crystal clear quality all the players celebrating to themselves and Doris the tea lady shouting encouragement from the stands.

sports minister said we are okay for now but really waiting the results of this meeting. The big issue is if the government put us into the delay stage of their plan because that’s when things start getting canned

But they've booked it without any parade being arranged anyway. The Monday is only a guess.

I'd go as far to say the Champions league will more than likely be called off by the Quarters.

this is a horrible idea and has no way of being policed. What if someone turns 70 this week? There are people under 70 who would be much higher risk than someone over 70. Government should advise those high-risk people not to attend if they want

The self isolation thing is also to prevent people unknowingly transmitting the virus at a quick rate. All fine having no over 70s in the ground but theoretically a handful could pass it on to people and cause an outbreak in wherever they’re from, straining the NHS etc.

All of Italy on lockdown now, praying that we can contain this in the next week or things are gonna well escalate quickly
