what a way to drop the mic and leave! 3 CL in 3 years....

Wonder what effect this will have on their players....Bale/Ronaldo especially. This Madrid team was going to have to mix shit up eventually, this summer will be interesting!

Genuinely wonder if Poch has a clause in his contract. Wacky how he signs a new deal then Zidane offskis

He doesn't, per the Times. Spurs should be able to resist / demand too much in compensation.

He'd be a terrible fit anyway. Can you imagine him trying to get Ronaldo and Bale to press and track back?

Heard there is a clause in his contract that he can leave for Real Madrid or PSG. Fuck knows if there actually is such a term.

So essentially

Conte to Napoli
Zidane to Chelsea
Pocchettino to Real
Enrique to Spurs

Not impossible by any stretch. I doubt Sarri is leaving Italy. There's a Milan job surely waiting for him.

So perhaps he'll do a Klopp, and replace a manager midseason at a big team, after the current manager does not meet expectations by about November?

What are the odds for him to be the next Manchester Untied manager? ;D

Bit weird how Guardiola is seen as some sort of God whilst nobody gives Zidane an ounce of credit, he won 3 CLs on the bounce without really buying anyone, doubt anyone will ever do that again.

Zidane’s record shits all over Guardiola’s to be honest, given the money they’ve spent respectively.

I had a thought: could Zidane’s football career actually now be the best ever?  Taking playing and managing as a continuum for once, instead of the normal way of considering them to be two separate things.

Personally I’d say Cruyff is probably some way clear if you look at it like that, but who else has truly excelled at both?

King Kenny is one.

Carlo Ancelotti won a bunch of trophies as a player and got 26 caps for Italy.

Zidane taking things to a new level though.

That's a really good question, and I think you've already answered it in some ways - surely Cruyff and Zidane would be at the top of that particular combined tree, and by some distance. I can't think of any undisputed top 20 players (and I'd say they're both top 10) who have had similar success in management. Beckenbauer comes close maybe, although his managerial career was perhaps less impressive (though maybe not actually - Wiki informs me he won the World Cup as manager...).

I'd actually suggest that Zidane might be ahead of Cruyff too - he actually won stuff with is international side, wonderful as that Dutch side no doubt were, and his three CLs in a row arguably trumps what Cruyff achieved as a manager. I reckon I'd probably go Zidane > Cruyff > Beckenbauer, although actually I'm not sure there's that much between the three of them. True giants of the game.

Wonder who'll be the next top player to go into management? Neither Messi nor Ronaldo strike me as the type, but it would be pretty cool if they did - if they could rekindle their playing rivalry as managers now that, that would be something.

Yep.  Zidane's top accomplishments all over are just incredible really.

One of the best players of all time, a brace in a World Cup final, a winner volley in a CL final, 3 CL wins on the trot as a manager...

And even had time for the most famous headbutt in sporting history!

I didn’t think I’d see Paisley’s three European cups with one club in five years topped, but here we are.

Zidane probably is the top of the tree for an entire footballing career, and who knows what else he could achieve as a manager.

What do people think of Zidane as a manager? Is he great tactically and manages games well? Or is he the man manager type that has done exceedingly well in keeping a bunch of superstars on board and letting them play freely?

Most skilled footballer I’ve ever seen, the way he caressed the ball, magic.
I don’t think he’s a top manager, he has a group of players that don’t need managing. Tactically he’s been out thought all CL and yet he’s got the magicians to get him through. First 30 mins of CL final was pretty much a case of a world class team being shut down by a world class manager. Zidane is more lucky than good, but his record is incredible, he won’t emulate that anywhere else.

Its strange that a guy who nobody would have questioned for footballing IQ in his playing days. In somehow seen as tactically inept as a coach...the jobs are different but understanding the game at the level he did. That doesn't leave you.
