I thought it was called Host because they just combined 'Hope' and 'Street'.

Thinking of going to Filini in the Radisson at the weekend, anyone been? Any recommendations? Also is the bar any good for cocktails?

Also I'd think this would be a good place to mention a special offer for the Orchard.  Love this place.

    * Restaurant Name:

San Carlo

    * Location

Castle Street

    * Link to their website

http://www.sancarlo.co.uk/liverpool

    * How many went

Me and my wife

    * What was [roughly] ordered

Italian bread, Garlic bread with Cheese and Tomato, Fillet steak with Peppercorn Sauce, Veggies and Sautee potatoes and Spag Bol

    * Review of the Food

Fantastic. 28 day Beef that was cooked to perfection. Spag Bol was delicious too according to the wife, the couples next to us enjoyed their food too and that also looked bloody lovely! The wait between the Italian bread coming out and the mains was considerable (45 mins) but didn't mind that really as we just chatted and had a drink which is rare when you have 3 kids!! Would liked to have spent some more time on the Garlic bread which was like a very thin Pizza but strangely it came out with the mains  :-\

    * Review of the venue

Very nice surroundings but generally a massive disappointment. We booked a table for 8 and got there around 7:45, ordered a drink and sat down in the bar area. We were left there till around 8:20 with people coming in after us being sat down before. Wasn't that arsed just a minor annoyance.

When we were sat down we were took to the very back of the room and couldn't figure out where they were going to sit us as it looked chocker but there were four tables of two against the back wall RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER. When I say this, I mean literally right next to each other. In order for us to be sat down the waiter had to disrupt the couple to our left and move the table to allow us to get in. My wife sat against the wall so then there was absolutely no chance of her getting back out to go to the loo. When they brought the food, the waiter actually moved my drink and bread onto the table next to me! Badly unprofessional and the girl next to me was pretty stunned but that's how close we were!

I don't know if it's an English thing or if we're not exactly sociable but if I'm out for a romantic meal with my wife, I don't want to be able to smell the perfume of two other women close to me! Those bank of four tables should be two tables of two which would allow people to eat comfortably without hearing what the persons next to each other were saying. I could literally rest my elbows on the tables to the side of me!

It just made the rest of the evening pretty uncomfortable and I know the other couples felt the same (I heard them whisper it  :D)

You're not assigned a waiter which means you literally have to grab whoever walks past, this is a bit strange when you consider the amount of staff they have working there. It also meant I was sat without a drink for about ten minutes

    * Would you go again?

Yeah, I would cos the food was fantastic, I would just request another table next time!

* Would you recommend it to friends and family?

Defo for the food yeah

    * Any known offers of fixed menus?

There was a specials board but I didn't notice a fixed price menu. It was pretty pricey.

    * Price Paid

£55 which was mainly meals. I had 3 glasses of Peroni (would have preferred a pint like) and the missus only had 2 cokes

    * Overall score out of 10

Feel like I want to give it a 9 for the food but a 6 for the seating arrangements and waiting on service

That would make sense, but its not how I read it on the website. Either way I'm just being a picky so and so and the food is apparently top notch

Went to Bar Italia on Saturday night on castle street (opposite san carlo) and it was awesome. Easily the best tasting, authentic Italian in Liverpool. Having just come back from Italy a few weeks ago, I much prefer the food here to the actual italian food (this may say more about me than than then real italian cuisine) however. It was quality will definitely go back soon.

I went to Merchants Bar and Restaurant in 62 Castle St Hotel which is the old Trials Hotel opposite the courts.

They had a special offer of 14.99 for 3 courses between 5 and 7. For the price couldnt fault the food and the restaurant was pretty smart as well.

I went to the Italian Club Fish at the top of Bold Street last night.  The first time we went the food was good but I have to say this time round it was sublime.  Absolutely top notch cooking.

I had a pasta starter of Taglione with Langoustine, mussels, clams and scallops. The langoustine was fantastic and the accompanying pasta was cooked to perfection and the sauce had just enough chilli to cut through the sauce but not overpower the flavours of the seafood.

Main was red mullet (delightfully crispy) on a bed of spinach mash with a mussel and clam garlic sauce.  Absolutely faultless.

Total bill was £60 for two starters, two mains, two coffees, two beers and two large glasses of wine.

Missus has been in but only for a coffee and a quick snack, no full on meal. Said it was very nice and the staff were superb. Disappointed in myself for not trying it yet to be honest, looks great from the outside and in a great location in my opinion.

Went yesterday. Had tapas with the missus. Beer very good, thats the most important thing lol, food ranged from not for me (peppers, missus loved them though) to very good (meatballs) to simply awesome ( chicken strips, absolutely loved them), would go back in a heartbeat, guy who owns the place came over and asked how we weer and even remembered teh good lady from her last visit there, its the little touches that make you go back.

Quality place for me that, be there again in no time I imagine.

By the Waterstones in Liverpool One, next door to the Japanese trainer place. Worth looking at the website and well worth a visit.

Noticed when I was in there they have music nights as well, which I think could be good.

Agreed, that's number one on the list of places to take mum when I get back home.
One thing to note about both Italian clubs on Bold Street is hat there attitude is very Italian and laid back, more bar / cantina than formal restaurant (eg. There is a tv inthe corner showing live Italian footy if there is any). Now I'm sure that's a plus for most of us but worth bearing in mind if your mum is a stickler for formal service.

In that case then my only tip with Italian club fish is not to book too late. We ate about 930 onesaturday when they'd been really busy and it was good but quite a few of the dishes were finished and off the menu bythe time we ordered. Might be a one off but will always be a risk with a restaurant dealing in fresh fish I guess.

Went back to the Monro on Duke Street yesterday afternoon and it was top notch again. My bird had ham, potato salad with a poached egg and and had sausages with celeriac coleslaw. Then we both had the daily special of roast beef and giant yorkshire pudding. £28 for the two of us including a couple of orange juices because of a killer hangover.

Also went to the Saracens Head a bit off the beaten track but up near Ormskirk on saturday afternoon for lunch, havent been there for years but its done out really nice and quality home cooked food. I had gourmet burger with chunky chips and she had lamb & veg pie with mash potato and mushy peas. Couldnt fault it.

I went on Friday for the early bird menu - 2 courses for £12.95, 5pm-6.30pm weekdays.

I had soup for starters, which was stunning, although i thought the bread roll would be homemade but it was just a part baked bought in roll. My girlfriend (a veggie) had garlic and lemon polenta cakes which she really enjoyed.

For our mains i had a chicken kebab on a bed of couscous (i dont usually go for chicken when i eat out), the chicken was cooked to perfection, very chunky and moist, a very tasty dish. The girlfriend had the posh fish and chunky chips, she was very happy with it.

For £12.95 you really can't go wrong, excellent once again. Strongly reccomend booking a table, it's always very busy.

We went to Lunya after the Fulham game, excellent food (a little expensive IMO but the quality was worth it) and a fantastic deli counter to gawk at  :o  I may have had a couple too many after that frustrating match and I may have spilt red wine everywhere (sorry Ben  :-[) but I really enjoyed the place and will be going back (that's if I'm not already barred  ;))   I think I may have had a cocktail of two as well, smashing.

(I like my Patatas Bravas a bit spicier though  :) )
As a young man Cameron looked out on the social carnage of pit closures and mass unemployment, looked at Margaret Thatcher's government and thought, these are my people. When all the debating is done, that is really all I need to know.

I was in Lunya myself on Monday, thought it was really nice, they do a cracking three tapas and a bread for a tenner as a lunchtime special. I had Pincho Moruno, Albondigas and Catalan spinach with raisins and pine‐nuts. I also had an afters of Chocolate and Churros, which was unbelievably moreish.

Slobbered over the deli counter like Homer Simpson and then bought some of the ham cut straight of the leg, just like in Spain with the special vice for holding it at the foot. mmmmmmmm meeeeeat

Not a restaurant as such but if you're in town and fancy a quick pie and a pint try the The Lion Tavern in Moorfields.

The nicest pie you will ever eat, I can guarantee you of it. £3.25 may seem a bit steep for a pie but when you see the size of this thing they give you and how nice it tastes, you'll be hooked. Lovely thin crust, with loads of jelly and thick with meat. I'm salivating as I type.

One would feed two people no sweat; unless you're big boned like me of course then polishing off a whole one won't be a problem.

And if you venture into the lounge sit yourself by the fire, look up and marvel at the fabulous stained glass domed sky light (don't know the correct name for it) they have in the roof. One of those little gems of a pub that has loads of character.

Then you can wonder back down to Dale street passing the run down old winey there and reminisce to yourself about all the great fights and piss ups that took place there and  If my memory serves me correctly I think they once broadcast an edition of the Tube from there, I think.

Not a restaurant as such but if you're in town and fancy a quick pie and a pint try the The Lion Tavern in Moorfields.

I'm always on the lookout for a proper pie. Thanks for the heads up, Shirley. Shall get in there soon.

Lovely pies in the Lion, I agree, but just about big enough for one person, and that person is me.  The next time someone tries to take a bite of MY pie, I'm gonna piss in their pint and send them down to Yate's where they won't know the difference  :no

Just been to Da Piero, in Irby, Wirral. http://www.dapiero.co.uk/home.htm it's just won best new entry in the 2010 Good food Guide hence four of us sharing a Delta over the water.

Its a small place probably eight or nine tables and therefore booking is pretty essential. The oldish couple who run the place do it as a labour of love. Dawn's English and does front of house, he's called Piero, A Scillian who does the cooking. We booked for Half Seven and had the table for the night, once you've got your table you are made to feel it's yours for the night, this isn't a 'how many covers they can fit in on table x' type place. The couple were charming and after the main courses Piero came out and went around the tables introducing himself, he seemed quite genuine and it wasn't forced.

The place is small with simple tables and modern white platered walls with two pictures of their children. As someone who occasionly feels a bit intimidated in fine dining restaurants the place was fairly elegant but relaxing and enjoyable.

The food is authentic Italian/ Sicillian with a nod to fine dining but actually quite rustic. Piero obviously prides himself on trying to source the best ingredients and generally the food is very good. You can either order starter followed by a pasta, meat or fish course or start with a pasta and have a fish or meat course. We started with pasta dishes and there were no complaints, all four of us enjoyed our starters, I had Sphagetti alla Carbonara, and it was exellent, no cream and very authentic just like the little places you find when in Italy.  Most of the pastas work out about a tenner.

For our mains we ordered off the fish menu. Being a greedy bastard, I'm straight into the Misto de mar, the dearest dish on the menu at £22 notes. It was very good for England, with Cod, Crab claws, Prawns and Clams, if I'm being honest I've had better but only in some of them harbour restaurants you find on the Med. My missus got the Sea Bass, which was massive and whole but cooked absoloutely spot on for £16.50, the couple with us were raving over the black tiger prawns in garlic, and the swordfish salmoriglio which is a lemon, parsley and olive oil Sicillian sauce, both for £14.50. The side dishes were top class, I loved the purgatory beans with a brilliant olive oil dressing.

I finished with a cliched Tiramisu, I know but I just love it, my mate reckoned the cannoli was the way to go.

Wine wise, decent selection and dawn very helpful with what is what, ended up with a nice sangiovese for about £15. Overall fairly impressive.
