I think he’ll play a part whether he starts or not. Wouldn’t mind seeing him bang in a pen to finish them off late on

I know this is goin agin the grain but I do think he will start, play his heart out for 60' and leave it for the younger lads to bring it home.

His experience and graft/craft is priceless.

I think a sub appearance on 60 to cool the game down is what Klopp will be looking at. Milner is a great sub to come in and help close a game down.

Don't forget that game he came on with Hendo (albeit at RB I think) and we totally dominated and ended up winning the game after they both came on.

He can make an attacking contribution as well. I think his experience and toughness in the centre will be most vital, especially seeing that temperatures will be 30+ during the game and it could well be a case of who's stamina is better.

No matter whether he starts or is on the bench, he will have an important contribution to make by the end of the game - as will many of the players e.g. Div, Origi, Gomez, Lovren, Ox, Lallana etc. could all be involved conceivably and will need to be ready in case they are called upon.

It’s not a tough call really. From the bench is best for the team because he is our cover at FB and he’s the best in the team at closing games down.

I suspect he'll start in front of Gini just like Barca. Klopp values his veteran presence. Minority opinion i know, cant lose either way. at some point he features for sure.

You reckon? I'd say he was second to Henderson in the passing stakes really at least in terms of pure accuracy, although he's probably better at passing out of pressure than Hendo (I'd argue most of our midfielders are better than Hendo at this actually) which could be important against a team like Spurs. I agree, it's a really tough call.

I love Milner but personally would probably go with a midfield of Fabinho, Henderson and Gini tonight, and leave him on the bench as he often seems to do well coming on as a substitute, whether we need some attacking impetus or to protect a lead. That said, I would be perfectly happy to see him start. All our midfielders have performed this season, at various points, and each of the four that are currently fit could be said to "deserve" to start such a massive game.

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Klopp credited James Milner, who missed out on a place in the starting lineup, with galvanising his players with a rousing speech before kick-off. “Without Millie’s dressing-room talk, with a non-native manager, I think it would not have been possible to win this,” he said. “I am so happy for the boys. You know what people have said about a couple of the players of this team. Jordan Henderson is captain of the Champions League winner of 2019. That is satisfying.”

I like that, for many reasons. One being how Klopp gives the players the praise.

For a long (long) time the best free signing was Gary Mac, who was a bit of a surprise due to how much of an impact he made during the treble season (or as Mourinho would call it, the quintiple).

But the ongoing, top level game changing and dressing-room shaping influence of Milner has probably eclipsed that. And he's still, what, two years younger than Mac was when he joined? I hope Milner stays on another year, though I suspect he's such a competitor that he'll want to move on to a more busy role before too long.
The opinions related above are in no way to be taken as anything more (or less) than those of an bored mind.

Personally, I think (or is it hope?) that he will sign a new deal, after Leeds failed to get promotion.

Even if they had been promoted, I'm not sure he would have gone, although now that he's won basically everything domestically, he may well have.

For me, we need to give him a fresh, rolling, year-to-year contract.

The man is a colossus.
