Another week of fixtures where certain teams ask for the game to be called off as they aren't up for it. Burnley v Watford tomorrow night will most likely be off.
A few big games at the bottom of the table. Newcastle will probably ask for their game with Leeds to be called off to give them more time to sign new players.

Watford and Burnley should just agree to cancel the game and call it a draw, a point is a victory for both and not having to watch them play is a victory for the rest of us.

Burnley could well have 4 games in hand on most and 5 games in hand on Norwich after Friday night. Absolutely ridiculous. That's a nice way to gain an advantage later in the season when teams they play are more focused on cups or have less to play for etc

I still don't understand how Burnley can't field 11 players and 3 subs minimum. The Premier League have made such a mess of this from the start.

They've a squad of 20 outfield players. I can only see 1 at Afcon, and 1 injury. Can't see anything stating how many covid cases they are claiming.

Not really. Dynamo Dresden ended up having to play 9 matches in 31 days due to COVID in 2019/20. They ended up getting relegated as they were knackered. I'd imagine Burnley's thin squad will be the same.

Do they have a thin squad really? They've 20 outfield players listed on their site. We have 23 if you include the likes of Phillips, Williams and Elliott. No idea how other teams compare

Burnley have figured that if they get enough matches called off, the league won't be able to get all fixtures done so they'll declare the season null and void. It's time the league got tough and enforced forfeits on teams that get more than, say, 3 games postponed. I do realise some of Burnley's postponements were requested by the opponent but still, they've had plenty of time to prep their youngsters and nurse their "injuries" and maybe not sell their best players until transfer deadline, just for a treat.

In fairness to them I think Chris Wood was free to move because he had a buyout clause so not much they could have done
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

As far as I can tell Burnley's only injured player is Barnes while Cornet is away at AFCON.  It's just a joke as you have to assume they're going to keep this going for as long as it takes to get an attacker in the door since with no Wood, Barnes or Cornet they have no attackers.

Judging by the BBC article, this is the first game that Burnley have asked to be postponed, so probably a bit harsh on them.

Yeah, forgot about that one and clearly didn't pay much attention when reading the article  :D

Quote
The Clarets' game against Leicester on Saturday was also postponed and 22 top-flight matches have now been postponed this season because of coronavirus.

As well as the original Watford fixture, Burnley had games against Aston Villa and Everton postponed in December because of Covid-19 cases among the opposing teams.

Sean Dyche eh, football’s 2nd biggest hypocrite after Guardiola, I am sure I remember him telling Kloppo to ‘get on with it’ just last month, when it came to covid and player welfare.

Burnley of course not had half the attention because of everyone obsessing over Liverpool the other week and now Arsenal, but they are getting a fair bit of stick today and yesterday especially after they managed to put out a 16 man squad for their U23 game last night!

Seen a few Burnley types on various platforms finding it all very hilarious, and seem to think people are in any way arsed.

In reality no one gives a shit about their postponed games. They, and Dyche, will when they’re trying to avoid relegation and playing Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday towards the end of the season to fit the games in. Shame they’ll only be allowed to use three substitutes…

Still, I’m sure they’ll “just get on with it”

It's a genuine thing though, isn't it? I mean, by 10pm on Friday night Norwich will have played five more games than Burnley - that's insane.

But the gripes will cut both ways. Naturally you think Burnley are at a disadvantage, but they'll actually be better positioned to know what they need from games.

It just throws a completely different perspective on everything, going to be really interesting to see how the PL and the clubs handle it.

I think Burnley are fucking about in regards to the players they have available, but harsh to say they're doing this deliberately to cause a fixture headache. They've had 4 games called off, 2 of which would've been played had the opposition not fucked about.
Given the fact they got their game at the weekend called off, they couldn't realistically then claim they are fine to play tonight.

Everton, Leicester, Watford and Villa are their games that will need rearranged. Not as if they all have European commitments and a lack of free midweeks between now and May. Only Leicester have that problem.

Mad thing is they aren't that far adrift. Bottom of the league, one win all season, 5 games in hand but if they'd played Watford tonight and beat them by 2 goals they'd have been out the relegation zone. They're only 3 points from safety when they should be adrift.

Problem is they haven't got the squad to be playing twice a week for the rest of the season. They're paying the price for barely signing a player for 3 years. It's caught up with them. If they bring a few in now though they'll have a chance.

No chance of that. After Hillsborough, we had to play 6 league games in May, in a 23 day period, as well as the semi and the Final. If those players, after what they had gone through, could play on the 3rd, 7th, 10th, 13th, 16th, 20th and 26th, Burnley can sodding well do it.
