It's always sunny in Philadelphia
« on: September 15, 2008, 11:50:13 am »
Have anyone seen this show? A couple of mates have reccomended it to me lately, and I'm wondering if I should gie it a try?

Is it good? Is it comparable to anything?

Please fill me in  :wave

Oh lord it is good. Makes me laugh out loud which i really dont do often.

It's four sort of friends who are really conniving and in no way are the typical TV folk. They lie, cheat, steal, do drugs, drink, scam and own a bar.

It touches on subjects that are really not present in a lot of comedy shows i see on TV. The first episode is titled "The gang gets racist" and starts with them suspecting a black guy of trying to rob them because he came into the bar when it was closed, even though they were expecting someone. Not exactly politically correct.

It's not like they are South Park in terms of being a huge satire of modern pop culture and themes but they do pretty well. They make fun of abortion, pedophile, crack, and incest without being crass or over the top.

To me it is one of the funniest shows on television and is really well written.

It's not bad. I wouldn't recommend anyone to rush out and buy the DVD's, but it is a funnier show than most anyway.

The funniest shit youd ever see. The premiss of the show is that the characters have no morals so that alows them to get up to all crazy types of hi-jinx such as getting addicted to crack, inpersonating Police, religious hoaxes, slave labour and trying to put a baby into sunbed.

its a fantastic show!! one of the most ridiculous comedies you can ever see.

personally I love charlie as a character.  almost every episode you can see him sniffing glue, or huffing some spray paint and the lunacy it causes.

my favorite episode is mac and charlie die pt 1.

Also if anyone is interested, charlie has his own sandwich which he references once on the show.  These are the instructions on how to prepare one -

"A Grilled Charlie has peanut butter LAST!
Peanut butter outside, chocolate inside. Butter inside, cheese outside!"

Using the quote exactly for a 'sandwich blueprint' if you will, it would look as follows: Cheese -> Bread -> Butter -> Chocolate -> Bread -> Peanut Butter. To properly make a grilled Charlie:

1) Butter one side of a piece of bread to hell and back. Put the bread butter-side down on a frying pan which has also been endowed with copious amounts of butter.
2) While frying, place cheese (1 slice) on the bread. as the cheese melts flip the bread and fry the cheese (NOTE: take care as to not let the cheese stick to the pan…Should not be a problem if the correct (and absurdly disgusting) amount of butter is applied). Remove bread from pan.
3) Making sure there is still plenty of butter in pan, place second piece of bread in pan. While frying, add decidedly more than a drizzle of chocolate syrup (Hershey's) to the top of bread and proceed to flip. Quickly (as to avoid burning) fry chocolate. Remove from pan.
4) Construct sandwich by placing bread together, cheese on the outside, and butter and chocolate on the inside. Spread thin layer of peanut butter on the previously unadorned side. Enjoy.

Best line of the show in the first 2 seasons (which is all I've seen).

Frank: I did not go to Vietnam and watch a lot of good men die just for scum like you to take away my freedom!
Sweet Dee: You went to Vietnam in 1993... to open up a sweatshop!
Frank: ...and a lot of good men died in that sweatshop!

pure genius.  anyone else seen the episode where they try and take credit for cracking the Libery Bell?  one of my favorites

still, the best line has to be:

Dee: I thought you worked at the coffee shop.
Waitress: Um, yeah, I do still, but a Starbucks moved in across the street, and they're stealing all our business.
Dee: Right across the street?
Waitress: I know.
Dee: Well, that is good to know. I love Starbucks.

Its funny, i was watching the episode where frank and mac start their little sweat-shop yesterday and i remembered that mac and dee were married, just as dee tells mac "your breath smells like an old lady fart passing through an onion". Good acting  ;D

Oh, and i think Charlie is married to the waitress. Now that is good acting.

-Mac and Dee are married
Does this mean that Dennis and Danny DeVito are also married?

I love this programme. It makes me laugh out load on my own. Charlie's always cracks me up, especially his writing! The sign he makes advertising Unled'd petrol for sale. And when he plays the wild card of the group in that episode.

What I love as well is that it's 4 seasons in and every episode is funny, and it sounds like season 5 is just as good.

Cried with laughter as they open the back of the trailer to find Dennis and Charlie passed out and Charlies explanation for what he could remember, something about it just seemed hilarious. Charlie eating the fruit was great too. "I eat stickers all the time!!!".

Loved the little reference in the latest episode to the one where they're making the news and Mac is the reporter, sweating uncontrollably.

Just watching the kitten walk across the table in the latest episode to me was great. Also Mac and Dennis interviewing Charlie for his internet dating profile. I could go forever....

This was from 'the Waitress is Getting Married'....was pissing myself  ;D

Dennis: Lets talk about your likes and dislikes. Umm…how about your favorite food, what would that be?
    Charlie: Oh, milk-steak.
    Dennis and Mac simultaneously: Hmm?
    Dennis: What?
    Charlie: Milk-steak.
    Dennis: I’m not putting milk-steak.
Mac: Just put regular steak and then-
Charlie: Don’t put regular steak, put milk-steak, she’ll know what it is.
Dennis: No she won’t know what it is! Nobody knows what that is. Okay, alright what’s your favorite hobby?
    Charlie: Uhh…magnets.
Dennis: Wha-like making magnets, collecting magnets?
    Mac: Playing with magnets?
    Charlie: Just magnets.
Dennis: I’m just gonna put snowboarding. We’ll just put snowboarding.
    Charlie: I don’t really snowboard.
Dennis: What are some of your likes?
    Charlie: Uhh…ghouls
Mac: Son of a bitch. What are you talking about?
Charlie: Just funny little green ghouls.
Dennis: W-What like in movies, or in cartoons?
    Charlie: Little green ghouls buddies!
    Mac: Don’t write ghouls!
Dennis: I’m not! I’m putting travel! Jesus Christ, what are your dislikes?
    Charlie: People's knees.
Dennis: Oh come on dude! Come on!
Mac: Bro, you gotta be kid-you know what we’ll just make it all up.
Dennis: We’ll make the whole thing up.
    Mac: We’ll doctor the picture.
Dennis: We aren’t even going to use you for this.
Charlie: Cover your knees up if you're gonna be walking around everywhere.

Completely agreed. The last sequence in the bar for the actual intervention is absolutely brilliant.

On a related note, how good is Danny DeVito? I always thought that in his first two seasons, his presence was a bit forced and he wasn't very funny. But now he's really found his character. Him and Charlie are fucking comedy gold.

Yet to watch any of season 5, saving it for my holiday in January for the IPod, but I fucking adore this show. Its so randomly stupid its unreal. Things that spring to mind are when Dennis and Dee do crack to try and get welfare, Frank singing the 'Troll Toll' song, Mac and Dennis throwing the guy off the roof when they get the house, and one of the funniest bits of TV ever, is when they get break into the Mexicans house in the middle of the night playing loud rock music and put bags over the familys heads and march them out all to do an extreme makeover, had me in stitches that.

And the McPoyles? Genius, utter genius.
