The Jam - Going Underground.
If Kenny Dalglish had simply played football for Liverpool he would be an Anfield hero. However, the fact that he managed the club to even greater success guarantees him the status of a legend.

The Associates - Party Fears Two

Billy MacKenzie was reputedly the inspiration for 'William, It was Really Nothing' - The Smiths.

Used as incidental music on BBC's Sportsnight for years, the outro if I recall correctly. Put the 12' to 3min 20sec for waves of nostalgia for when Liverpool always scored the late winner.

One of the best piano riffs of the decade (played by Martha of Martha & the Muffins).

A funny clip from The Tube, Lesley Ash interviews him, while MacKanzie strays towards dodgy business around Dundee docks.  :o

Including trying to get the mashed up tape out of the cassette player, hopefully to wind it back in or having to use scissors and cellotape to cut out the ruined part and stick the remains together.

I still have a 45min Massive Attack hip-hop mix on tape, a Kiss FM new year's eve thing, a better version of their classic Essential Mix for the BBC. People went wild for that but, they've only heard a 'pop' version.

I just don't know how to transfer it to computer.

Gotta put a shout out for Dire Strait's Romeo & Juliet - much maligned band, but that is a gem of a song, as the recent cover by The Killers attests to...

They'll have their day in the spotlight of critical approval before too long. Telegraph Road is IMMENSE.

Got to keep the heads clean, but what kid did that?

Tape has preserved a lot better than mini-disc, those things decay in a few years. Thank God by that time most stuff was recorded somewhere, by someone.

Alcohol swabs would do the trick - back then we use cotton buds.

Oh, and don't forget to use the screwdriver to adjust the positioning of the head, making it sound crisper or higher in treble, depending on taste.
Someone should do the right thing - go back in time to 1992 and destroy the codes to Championship Manager before it is ever released

Hue & Cry - Remote. Forget "labour of love", single from Seduced and Abandoned, that album and single didn't do justice to the fabulous duo. Get on this entire album !

Agree with you there.

I think Dire Straits are slightly unlucky in that people seem to associate them them with the 'Yuppies' of the 1980's.  You know, 30 somethings Tarquin and Miranda in their London flat slipping on the Brothers in Arms CD after the Dinner party.

Don't suppose Mark Knopfler and the band are complaining too much after flogging 118 Million albums (cheers Wiki)
