Leeds Fans' murderer has conviction overturned.

(1/1)

ttnbd:

--- Quote ---Turkey's Court of Appeals has overturned a young man's 15-year sentence for the fatal stabbing of two English soccer fans.
The court ordered a retrial for Ali Umit Demir on the grounds of "severe provocation".

Mr Demir was convicted last year of killing Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight before a UEFA cup tie between Leeds United and Galatasaray in April 2000.

His lawyers alleged during the trial that Mr Loftus and Mr Speight had been drunk and had insulted the Turkish flag.

The decision comes as England are due to travel to Turkey in October for a European Championship qualifier which could decide Group Seven.

However, England have not taken up their ticket allocations in order to limit travel for fans in anticipation of further trouble.

I think thats just going to make the Thugs more deterimed to go out there and start trouble with the Turks. Though if your average Leeds fan is anything to go by, I dont believe the two who died would of been completly innocent. Didnt deserve that though.

Bet theres fireworks when we play them again  :-\
