Thank you, C! I actually had looked for West Cork, and was just making an error in my post.

And yes, it doesn't show up in my podcast app, so probably Audible exclusive. Luckily, I'm quite familiar with getting free trials from Audible ;D

Thanks, mate.

Without wanting to spoil it for anyone about to listen to it.... it might be worth having a Google if you have forgotten about it/hadn't heard anything in a while - there were some developments earlier this year.

Nothing surprises me anymore. 😁

On the My Dad wrote a porno line, they had Jon Ronson on who mentioned his podcast (on audible) The Butterfly Effect.

He follows the story of how PornHub came about and it's effect on the industry.

For such a "saucy" subject he deals with the subject matter brilliantly and for me was an engaging and something away from my usual "history and true crime" list.

Warning though, it's clearly not suitable for little uns

Quick mention of Jon Ronson's 'Last days of August'. A follow up to the Butterfly Effect, and outlines the circumstances surrounding the suicide of a major porn star. Quite haunting, in many ways.
Just got onto this. Fascinating stuff. What a grim world porn is. Just a total dead end.

The tip Off - quite interesting pod by an investigative journalist

Listened to loads of these over the weekend.

Really quite fascinating.

All about investigative journalists and how they crack some of the big stories. It is quite funny how they have  go at some things on a very amateur level. They try to follow some guys making huge cash payments at post offices to get pictures of how and how they were doing it. One of the journalists stopped answering his phone, however they had made it so they could all track each others phone. So they tracked his phone all the way to Bethnal Green Police station. One of the guys making the cash deposits had gotten worried someone was watching them and called the Police. The journalist was arrested and later released after his friends managed to prove he was a journalist and after they explained what they were doing and why. The Police officer then gave them a series of better lessons on how to follow people in London and not get spotted.

Listening to the back catalogue of Rule of Three at the moment - a couple of comedy writers who have worked on the likes of Charlie Brooker and Philomena Cunk have comedians on as guests to talk about comedy they love, for example Nish Kumar talking about Darkplace and Charlie Brooker on Airplane. It's the perfect mix of analysing the gags and techniques and just doing quotes and descending into laughter.

This has been my go to podcast this Summer when traveling - really great finding out about St. John's Market greengrocer Eddie Braben writing for Morecambe and Wise, and Ellen Degeneres as a young stand up.

Been listening to one I discovered called "The walk", it's a Dystopian drama with voice actors. I'm halfway through it and finding it riveting.

Three to have a listen to maybe?

Storycast from Sky News - only two episodes (plus a bonus commentary) currently -  telling the story of  the Brinks-Mat robbery and the subsequent hunt for the culprits and the gold.  Found it interesting to know more about such a famous news story that I knew little about.

The Bellingcat Podcast - a deep dive in to the downing of flight MH17 over Eastern Ukraine and the use of open source investigation to make the case for who was responsible.  Harrowing at times but extremely detailed dissection of the events and a look at how disinformation was used to obscure facts.

The Dropout - All about the Theranos (alleged) fraud in the USA and how a multi-billion dollar company was built on literally nothing.  The company claimed they could run upwards of 200 common blood tests on a drop or two of blood removing the need for Phlebotomy - but never actually managed to do it.  Maybe quite niche as I work in pharma/medical devices, but the story is wild.

All available wherever you get your podcasts (I think!)

I’ve mentioned The Dollop before, two comedians talking about the seedier and whackier side of US history, which I highly recommend.

Well they’ve started an offshoot on uk history. There is only two out so far. The second one is called Cyril the Swan, a Swansea mascot from the nineties. It’s a cracking listen. You do have to forgive some of the pronunciations.

His guest list is insanely good, and getting better as he is able to network in Hollywood more.

The guests mostly seem to enjoy talking about their lives, in the long form, rather than simply being there to sell stuff.

I found the recent(ish) Jane Fonda interview interesting, then with Peter`s passing the reposting of his own interview made a good compare and contrast of their upbringing.

Jules and Andy on a Tuesday is generally a better listen. They discuss the points of the last week a bit more, rather than just what happened in the games.

It's probably been mentioned loads of times, but the one I listen to almost entirely is - Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard as I enjoy the insight into classic era pro wrestling.

Having said that, does anyone have any recommendations of podcasts that are based on murder/ghost story's/mystery's - that type of thing?

Jibbed that off ages ago. There are so many better choices now. It started out with a certain amateur freshness but for me quickly descended into just talking bollox for the last 15 minutes. The whole podcast arena now has so many choices that there is only so much time. Much better football podcasts out there and plenty of others of any subject you find interesting.

I recently got into this as well. I always dismissed it because I didn't get a good first impression of Maron, thinking he was just a loudmouth. There's a reason he gets these guests though, he's a brilliant interviewer.

I think hes learned as hes gone along. He also does the thing that the best interviewers do: listens & let's the guest speak.

OK, haven't started this yet but a new one has just started by WBEZ Chicago called Motive.

It's an amazing true story about a guy, Thaddeus Jimenez, who was convicted of murder as a 13 yr old gang member - spent years in prison, got exonerated, given a $25 million settlement, then took the money and tried to restore his gang (which was pretty much obsolete) to a Chicago powerhouse. I remember hearing about the guy on neighborhood message boards, he was just a couple of miles west of me. It was an open secret what was going on, and as you may imagine it didn't end too well.

Hopefully they do a good job on the story because like I say it's some gripping subject matter

It would make an amazing movie, it's got everything! Actually I'd prefer a long series  ;D

3 episodes into the podcast and it's really good. Chicago in the early 90s was a wild place

I first heard about the guy on this neighborhood watch forum, usually dead boring stuff about roadworks, garage break-ins and so on. Then these threads started popping up about "Whats the deal with all the lamborghinis on the 4200 block of N. Drake?"  ;D Then the Latin Kings started firebombing them.

Started listening to one called Bombshell. Pretty dry stuff really. Just one of those pods that give you an insight into a world event from a different point of voice. Three or four ex US government type people, now with strong consultant positions with global strategy consultancies offering an insight into something the US government has done. They are no fans of Trump and it’s interesting hearing their view on Syria etc.

I’ll admit, it’s not for everyone.

Enjoying the Channel 4's F1 one, On The Marbles.  Only one before any race but the tangents they go off onto are great listening.  Thought Steve Jones was such a weird choice as a presenter but really warmed to him as he offers something different to it.  The other F1 shows I have are Chequered Flag by the BBC and Beyond the Grid by Formula 1 themselves, some really good topics delved into by Tom Clarkson.

It's probably been mentioned loads of times, but the one I listen to almost entirely is - Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard as I enjoy the insight into classic era pro wrestling.
Definite favourite of mine, I enjoy the way they bounce off each other.  If I didn't have a backlog I'd subscribe to Conrad's other shows too.

What are the best political ones to subscribe to out there?  The only ones I've listened to with regularity are Nick Robinson's Political Thinking and Remainiacs, and at a push to label them political but he's just a fantastic interviewer, James O'Brien's Unfiltered which stopped last year and his newer one, Full Disclosure.
