Can't stop watching this. Spanish media seriously took the piss out of Barça for weeks after the debacle. Between the description of the event as 'cómico y trágico', the re-enacting of Trent taking the corner and Origi scoring the goal, and the fact they still refer to Trent as 'ese niño que lanza el balón desde la academia del Liverpool' (that boy from Liverpool's Academy who kicked the ball)... It's hilarious and worth a watch even if you don't speak any Spanish.   ;D ;D ;D

Sounds somewhat like the beat of Ludacris - Roll Out which samples Africando - YAY BOY. But obviously a remix of some kind that doesn’t seem to be on YouTube. Maybe have a dig on the “who sampled” website or join the Facebook group “IOM” (Identification of Music) and ask.

Ha, literally two days after this article Joao Felix is signed for €126 which is 3x their estimate.   I guess that makes TAA worth around €200-€240! :)

Thanks for posting that Wimbledon interview.

Thing that always gets me with him is he’s 20yrs old and has the mentality he has. He’s been lucky, he’s grown up in a world class football set up with great people around him, but his mentality and attitude is so far beyond his years.

He’ll be considered a generational talent, when he hangs up his boots, not just within the confines of the historied club he plays for but the entire game. I genuinely think he’s that good. His attitude defines him; he’s got a lot of confidence, he works hard, he comes across as humble in his tv interviews and he’s grasping the amazing opportunity he has right now the right way. The opportunity to cut his teeth playing for a truly amazing manager, alongside amazing footballers. The amount he’s progressed in just 2yrs is actually unbelievable if you think back to his trajectory.

He’s still learning the game and learning leadership in the best place in world football right now - he’s nowhere near as experienced as a Van Dijk or Salah or Mane... he rubs shoulders with them on the highest level of his profession on a weekly basis and his star shines more and more. It’ll be the brightest star in a squad full to the brim with them soon enough, he’s that good.

If you look at his movements and how he holds himself, he looks the complete footballer. Not the specialist in a position that you'd normally see, but someone who can fit anywhere on the pitch. I've mentioned before that another young talent, Mike Marsh, impressed me greatly when he first appeared, and looked somehow (I couldn't describe how) the most naturally "Liverpool" player I'd seen from our prospects. Someone older and wiser than me explained that it was probably his balance. Trent is the same. At any moment, whatever he is doing, he is perfectly balanced. I reckon a ballet instructor would appreciate him.

And aside from his physical balance, he seem perfectly mentally balanced as well. A lot of our players seem this way, unlike the showbiz that is the Man Utd squad. It's their turn to have the Spice Boys I suppose.

I think we'll also see a lot more of midfielders played as full-backs because of that, too. I love Robertson but there's a real contrast in dealing with them - with Robertson, if you can show him inside, there's relatively little threat. With Trent, that's space to attack. If you close that space, he'll get to the byline. If both those avenues are blocked, he can cross from deep, thread a throughball or find a quick ball into an attacker's feet, looking for the return ball, or he can switch it with ease. It's very difficult to defend against a player who has that many choices when they're on the ball.

How many Trent types are there though? Brazilians are supposed to put most of their players through midfield, but how many actually have that ability and that mentality? Was it Van Gaal or someone else who said that they'd never seen any fullback of his kind before?

You're right about Robertson. He's a very accomplished example of the traditional British FB. I love that kind of player too, but they don't make me salivate as much as seeing a great natural midfielder (who are, of course, the master race).

When I was a kid, I decided I wanted to be Molby, and concentrated on the technique of kicking a ball. I mastered that, although the fact that I was shit at every other aspect of football meant I was a useless player. But looking at compilations of Trent's passing makes my heart go wibble. Yup, that's exactly how you want to do that, etc.

I get you. He's a lovely footballer, he really is, and a rare talent. What I mean by 'midfielders played as full-backs' (and I don't think Trent should a midfielder, btw) is that it's more that because they're so important to our attacking play it's useful if they have multiple strings to their bow. I guess Trent as a player has something to a full string section, mind.

It's absolutely hilarious when he drives forward because they're expecting him to release it. I don't know what the cue is that prompts him to dribble into a crowd, but it's great fun seeing a mass of opposition defenders around him who are all wrongfooted by his decision to move with the ball. And when he does so, he looks like one of the most accomplished dribbling forwards we've had in the past couple of decades as well. Perhaps he should be nicknamed Mary Poppins: "Practically perfect". What's he like in goal?

Wonder if teams will try and close him down much more quickly now because his crossing is such a threat, and if he can consistently beat them with the ball when they do. If that happens, he'll be basically impossible to defend against.

The problem with that is once they press they leave Mo,Mane,Bobby,Hendo,Naby etc,etc free and Trent is also a brilliant passer of the ball.

The problem with that is once they press they leave Mo,Mane,Bobby,Hendo,Naby etc,etc free and Trent is also a brilliant passer of the ball.

Basically this.

Klopp has added a threat out wide since teams found it to easy to shut us out by defending narrow against us and denying our central front 3 players space. When we had the likes of Clyne at full back teams would let us funnel the ball out to him, knowing he was very little threat. I think it's why we see the like's of Milner at full back. he has his limitations in that position but he's a threat offensively with the quality of his delivery from out wide.

The combination of TAA's and Robertson's ability, and they way they are afforded space, has meant that it's become a rich source of goals for us. If teams try and stop that then the natural consequence is more space for our central players. Good luck with them doing that.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

The oft-seen Trent-Robertson pass is founded on the conventional press. The conventional press has the nearest man pressure the man on the ball (Trent) while a ring cuts off passing lanes to the near and mid range players. Any player beyond this has dozens of yards of space, should the passer have enough about them to attempt the pass. Robertson always holds himself in that space, and Trent is always looking for that pass to relieve pressure, or even just to proceed along a different angle.

That's why Trent is the archetypal Total Footballer in attack. If the opposition sit off, he'll gladly run into the space ahead of him until he gets within range for a cross. If the opposition press him, he'll gladly switch flanks to the vacated Robertson. The only way of avoiding this dilemma is to force him to defend, but he's better at defending than most attacking FBs so it's only a relative weakness.

and if some closes his lane up the line but leaves him with time on the ball then our attackers know he’ll gladly lob a chipped pass that’s so accurately spun that salah can be left with a one on one

Scary to think how high a ceiling this lad has if he continues to progress as he has done. If he can keep up last seasons level, that would be good enough, never mind improving.

I also highly rate his crossing with his left foot when he checks back inside. Impressive at such a young age to have so many weapons he can hurt you with.
