Celtic/Rangers, bobble hats etc
« on: December 11, 2005, 10:41:50 pm »
disappeared.

It used to be sung vehemently during the terrace days on the kop.

any reasons behind this vanishing?

I donned the bobble hat during my early days, many would don a half & half & i always thought it (the song) whipped the crowd up & brought a bit of aggression & upped the vocals etc..

Ok,it was a proddy/catholic thing-but is religion why it went?

Has it got a place back at anfield to be sung again?

I used to do it myself lar, shouted for Celtic, although I think as a Catholic I should probly have shouted Rangers, to be honest though i dont know that for sure or whether it was religious based or not really, as far as I'm concerned it was just a fun way of warming up the vocal chords to support the MIGHTY REDS.

It used to fuckign work though didnt it!!

I never thought it was sung seriously at Anfield - more just something to do pre-match as you got in much earlier.
If you're going to sign up on Betfair and fancy getting a free £25 on sign-up then use my refer code 749DCNQGK and I'll also get a £25 bonus ;)

it was, but never "seriously". Like you half of those just picked a club regardless of religion. And there were always a few shouts for Inverness, Hamilton Accies etc by those taking the piss.

Very spooky!

I was thinking about this the other day and was going to start a thread (for the older guys) to find out which team they used to sing for before the game!

Mine was Rangers but it always sounded as if Celtic got the bigger chant!

I have always thought Liverpool had a special relationship with Celtic, I guess with King Kenny coming from there. Not into thereligion thing, so dunno the background behindthat one. However, always considered Celtic the Liverpool of scotland. They have the pedigree and history to be called that. Would rangers be the Man U of scotland?

As I recal, it was shouted often up until the Kop got demolished. Both taeams used to be shouted at about the same volume level. I used to shout Stenhousemuir though.....just to be different.

Celtic and Rangers fans don't really care about anyone else. All they want is to hate each other. I'm a hoop (old man's from Glasgae) but to be honest Celtic fans know very little about any other club bar Celtic. Went to the 1-1 1st leg in the UEFA cup a couple of years back and most Celtic fans had hardly even heard to Steven Gerrard! Couldn't name one other player! Clueless, honestly.

I've always hated Rangers but their fans definitely seem to be knowledgable.

You just can't talk to either Celtic or rangers fans thought, it's all about absolutes with them. Then put 5000cc's of religion on top......

The Rangers/Celtic chant has been consigned to history just like 'I'm a bow-legged chicken' and 'We don't Carry Bottles'.

Different era, different Kopites. I used to love the whole Kop singing the 'Dambusters March' (not the we all hate Leeds version).

wow-i'm shocked i've done a post that hasn't been jibbed!  ;D

seriously,

I used to shout for Rangers meself & personally speaking-would like to see it re-introduced but would be surprised if it ever took off again.

I agree it was mainly sung pre-match & i reckon it did serve a good warm up for the tonsils before the game started.

some interesting feedback tho'.

I'd deffo prefer it to "we hate nottingham forest......" for sure.

Rangers for me, sort of comes from coming from a half-Scottish/half-Scouse family.  My late father (Scottish) was Rangers before he met my mum (Scouse).  I will always support Scotland before England as LFC owes more to the Jocks than any other nation (King Billy Liddell, Shanks, King Kenny, Souness - the player, Hansen).

Thing is if we get them in the CL there will no half scarf for me, and no love-in like when we played Celtic (which was a disgrace by the way as you only follow one team - Liverpool).  I really hope we give them a proper hiding, sending them back to Scotland with their tail between their legs.

C'mon you Mighty Reds. :)

Who said that they don't sing Don't carry bottles etc

Yep, ok, odd pockets of the Kop sing it, same as the 'Come on you Mighty Reds' song, but it's hardly the whole Kop like it used to be in the old days - certainly nothing like the exposure 'Five Times', 'Fields' and PST get.
